Is Management Consulting your golden ticket or a trap? Because it is less lucrative than it is portrayed. In this video, I dive deep into the dark realities of management consulting which placement cell or company presentations WON'T tell you. And why I quit my high-paying job at Bain & Company within 9 months.
Join me as I talk about the harsh realities of life after joining a management consulting firm! While the high-paying jobs and placements after IIM seem fascinating, you should know the reality of the extreme stress and working hours that go behind it.
After an MBA, many people think they're ready for the big leagues. And, MBB or the Holy Trinity has always been a dream of every CAT aspirant. But in reality, this world is a cutthroat place where success is determined by how well you network and your never-ending work. If you're ready for the dark realities of management consulting, then this video is for you!
I talk about the reality of high-paying jobs after IIM, the ugly side of consulting, and how IIM students year after year follow the herd to pick up these jobs despite the clear signs of warning. And, through this video, I intend to prepare you for the consulting world better and help you make an informed decision. Let’s give you a head start on building a fulfilling career!
About me: I graduated from IIM Calcutta in 2022 and worked at Bain & Company as a management consultant. This channel is on a mission to bridge the information gap in the education and job sector and talks about self-improvement, MBA preparation, and career growth.

Thank you so much for all the support!! ❤❤ Many of us underestimate the challenges until we experience them ourselves. Based on my 4 years of experience in the corporate world after IIT Guwahati and IIM Calcutta, I have shared a video on Hidden Truths of Life after IIMs/IITs. You can check that out to get the real picture of jobs after graduating from colleges and understand the corporate world a little better - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VyL_pTLUzuo.html

But agr aaap kuchh btana chahe to. ..hmne data analysis k topic to read kiya h pr kya sach me python sql power BI seekh le to job mil skti kya... Ek aur question h... 28 yrs me private sector me entry lena thik rhega kya. . Agr hmne certificate le bhi liya pr kya cv shortlist hoga hmara interview call aegi.... So many doubts like this...Pls btaiyega. 🙏

Hey, data analyst profile bahut hi wide hoti hai and given you have the right skills - there is always a chance to switch to this field. Haan, starting aapko 0 se hi karna hoga - aapke past experience ka value nahi rahega iss field me but if you are okay with that then Python, SQL, Power BI - isse data analyst field me switch kar sakte ho. Try to do some courses and projects jisse aapki CV thodi improve ho jaaye

@mbawithprachi Hello your video is good enough and i hope everyone got clarity on what happens in high profile jobs. But to be honest I’ve been working in govt sector since last 4 years and i can bet no job is perfect in this world. I can’t stay with my family. Getting frequent transfers and moreover you get to work in remote areas. So even if you get work life balance you can’t spend it with your family. Before that I was into pwc - yes again no work life balance but yeah atleast at the end of the day you got to see your family when sleep. I don’t know what to do

Bang on Prachi it’s the same in all companies - I have worked in Amazon for 7 years, Accenture for 2 years, and an Investment bank for 2 years , and I totally relate with each and every word you said , Indian corporate structure is a messy toxic set up , no matter which company you are working for , one should really keep their spine , ego , choices , values, family time , peace of mind , back at home before joining corporate, if you think youl grow without politics and a** licking , then you are fooling yourself! Companies are just there to make money and nothing else , hence one should assess wisely if they want to be a part of corporate! Also one should Never get fooled by the lives of people working in these industries, the one that is portrayed on social media , as reality is too ugly!

I assume I'm not qualified to speak on this yet cause I'm a student... But, I come from a perspective where I think WORK IS LIFE. The crazy hours is what you pay towards the company for what they pay you (huge bonuses and promotions). For some it might not justify sacrificing all of your personal time of the day to earn more.. A female chartered accountant employee 26 yrs old died in EY,couple of days back due to work pressure as you mentioned in the video. I think Corporate life is horrible after hearing her incident.😢
@mbawithprachi
@mbawithprachi 12 дней назад
We can't blame the entire corporate world. But like I mentioned in one of my comments, since childhood we are encouraged to work so hard towards our goals that it becomes really difficult to give up or to even accept that there's something we might not be a good fit for, especially in India, where so many people are ready to take our place. And the pressure to keep going can make us ignore our health, both mental and physical. The hope that things will get easier if we just hang on a bit longer. It's just super important to know when to quit and what to prioritize.

Corporate world should take some responsibility if its work culture is exploitative .. Just because there are people willing to be exploited does not mean that Corporates should exploit them .. Dealing with people with respect and care , should be the culture .. if everyone is expected to be bold and know their limits , then we should not have laws in this country

I'm really fortunate to have escaped danger before paying Lakhs for an MBA. I was so fascinated with the MBA RU-vid videos that I decided consulting was the right path for me. After receiving my Btech degree I was put in one of the premier consulting company in TC role. However, after joining, I saw that it's a very messy field. Creating PPTs in a premier consulting firm is not my cup of tea. I would much rather be coming up with real tech solutions in a tech company.

This recession has exposed management consultants, as companies dont have money to hire these people anymore. Management consultancy is least respected in the corporate world and is considered a big sham. They rely on business jargon and generalistic rhetorics under the garb of providing practical solutions, and overcharge their clients having no respect for their hard earned money. Their primary aim is to pocket their client's money. Helping them is secondary and not a requirement.

Hi Prachi, When you interviewed for your next company, how did you justify why you were leaving previous one in 9 months? I don't think the next employer would take it positively if you say it was because of the work pressure as that would signal that you cannot handle tough situations.
@mbawithprachi
@mbawithprachi 21 час назад
Hey, you can't say something like this bluntly but if know how to be diplomatic enough and put your point across - you won't be misunderstood. Plus, it kind of acted like a filter for me as well - like in one of the interviews, the interviewer was of the mindset that I shouldn't run away from work and ignored the fact that my health was getting impacted. So I knew, I didn't want to work in such a company because I won't be a good fit. Vice versa, he knew I won't be a good fit. Saved me another switch :P

Consulting makes you travel a lot which sounds nice at the begining, but not when you have to do it continuously. Networking is something that you have to constantly do in Consulting (meet new people, know them and enagge with them - both inside the org and on the client side), not everyone at every phase of life can be inclined to do so. hope I was able to put my point. Not every solution consultants give is implemented but think about it - if they weren't solving anything in reality why would any company pay loads of money to them? And converting IIMC at 99.53 or getting rejected at 99.99 is totally dependent on your previous profile. My previous academic scores + work-ex + the fact that IIMC gives gender diversity marks helped me get a call.
