The Jack Crow section of the novel, tells you that any human who wishes to remain innocent; will actively hate the thing that can endanger their innocence. Amazing novel. Poor Forrest. Poor Nathan. Poor Felix, running from trauma, by running into trauma. Poor Jack, who knows he's nothing special; cowering in the face of the memories of a man who truly IS special. Poor US.
my top sci fi book of all time.. the break of a man and the fact this shows PTSD in all it's glory if you step back and look...was saddened to learn his son waited to long to try and retrieve the second armor from his dad's computer after his death..the hard drive crashed and we lost the rest of the story.....but i did enjoy the tribute book to this .. armored..
The Armor is the mixture of Starship Troopers, Forever War and Old Man's War. I haven't read it yet but I need to finish the Old Man's War Novel First.
I was a huge fan of the books Starship Troopers and Forever War, so I ordered this book. I personally couldn't stand it, I thought the writing was terrible and I couldn't finish it, it was the only novel to date I couldn't force myself to finish. To each their own I suppose.
Those of us in the ultra top secret Illuminasteakley society have copies of some of the chapters he wrote for the sequel. 🙂 Of course, Jack Crow is kicking ass again. John's alter-ego. lol
@@allansmith6050 No way. Felix isnt dead he's like King Aurthur or Johnny Goodboy. He's just over that next hill and could return at minute and if we need him he will.
Holy crap, it's like you're going through my Dad's bookcase when I was a kid. When he bought this book, I marveled at the cover (the one with Felix/someone beating an ant with a rifle). I redrew it so many times when I was young. I need to reread this book, because all I remember now is Banshee and the pain. Just a suggestion, I'm sure you have a wide slate of books to go through already, but try 'Bolo: Annals of the Dinachrome Brigade' by Kieth Laumer (it's a collection of short stories. They show what war is like through the eyes of AI tanks called Bolos, in some surprising ways). Or, just maybe, Bloom by Wil McCarthy. An absolutely excellent and very short read that predicts a TON of stuff from back in 1999. Excellent content, my friend, keep it up! I'm with you all the way.
This book has always helped me through tough times. When I question decisions I’ve made that turned into disasters, this book reminds me there is so much that is out of my control. And that even if I run from my problems, eventually problems will find me.I also like this book because of the big reveal near the end when you find out who this guy is, and it makes me wonder if he was a badass BECAUSE he ran and experienced the things he did.
My favorite book (that's not in The Wheel of Time) ever. A man who absolutely refuses to die. Not out of any love of life, but out of a stubborn, spiteful refusal of death.
One of the greatest books ever written, on par with Moby-Dick and Blood Meridian, it truly makes me sad knowing that John Steakley died so young in his literary career and gave us so little to appreciate, as all of his works in progress we're lost after his death. RIP John Steakley. ❣️
I skip the puppy chapter every time after first reading it back in 2008. Ive probably reread it 4 times and once with the audible version which is pretty good. The story can be a bit difficult to follow some times but its my most recommended book.
Hey man, this was excellent! Yes, one of the greatest SciFi novels EVER written. Honorable mention to Steakley's Vampire$. Maybe the greatest modern day vampire novel ever written... SUBSCRIBED!
Armor is my number one favorite book ever, and yes it is dark, but it is also a magnificent work of art. But the darkest book you ever read? How cute. I just read a book that is so dark that 4 weeks later I still feel..... despair. Despair about humanity. Despair about the future. Despair about being alive. I read it from beginning to end, and I am so, so very sorry I did. Blindsight by Peter Watts. He is a good author, but I will never read anything from him ever, ever, ever again. For so many reasons, I am still trying to put words to.
@@SciFiSecrets No. You are correct... that is a tough scene. You work at an animal shelter (something I could never do) AND you have a kickass RU-vid channel! 🙂
@@KReverri YES! That exactly describes 'Blindsight'. As an writer myself, I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would create something like that. cognitohazard (plural cognitohazards) (neurology, chiefly science fiction) An image, pattern, sound, or any other kind of sensory signal that directly causes harmful or undesired physiological effects to one who senses or perceives it.
This was the first book I bought on my own (not part of a series, or ordered by school) based solely on the cool cover) scout beating an ant to death. Thought it was funny the presenter keeps referencing all the books it's similar to without getting the one it was actually crimped the setting from (Starship Troopers). The setting (Banshee vs Klendathu), the style (Power Armor/suits), the antagonists (hive minded insect like aliens). It's not a copy by any stretch, it uses a classic setting to tell a new and much darker story. Hate as a superpower. Hate as a guilty shield to protect us from our own loss and failure. And the climax/final twist is so rewarding. RIP Allie, RIP Kent, RIP Lewis you magnificent bastard.
