Not that Dark Souls 2's boss fights weren't fun, because a lot of them were, but the inspiration just wasn't as forceful as it was in Dark Souls 1.

Hold on there, my fellow cynist! Dark Souls 2 is still an amazing and fun game worth the buy for sure. I'm with this video and some other criticisms 100%; there's a LOT of blemishes on Dark Souls 2 that just failed to live up to the original (story and lore, geographical consistency, enemy creativity, "challenging but fair" vs. "challenging and downright cheap ~10% of the time"), but it still manages to be an excellent game. I had low expectations from what I'd seen and from commentary before PC release, but was pleasantly surprised to see it was still a lot of fun despite obvious blemishes.

I like how the brief clip of the Executioner's Chariot is of the horse falling into the pit and killing itself. Very nice touch.

In Demons Souls you had a bunch of monstrous creatures but I agree DaSII only has big dudes with big weapons

Vanguard Demon: Fat bastard with an axe Tower Knight: Really big bastard with a shield and lance Penetrater: Slightly-taller-than-average bastard with an absurdly long straight sword False King: Normal sized but fast bastard with a sword Flameluker: Burning bastard that sticks with fisticuffs Adjudicator: Another fat bastard with a "knife" Old Hero: Tall blind bastard with a big curved sword Garl Vinland: Normal bastard with a great-hammer. Final Tally of bosses that fight conventionally: 8 out of 17 bosses total. Sometimes a simple, gimmick-light fight with a big dude is all you need.

I find Scorpioness Najka to be a much more fun fight than Quelaag tbh. With quelaag I can just hug her left and avoid damage completely.

Here are the two main problems the majority of bosses have in Dark Souls II: they're not very interesting visually and they are NOT AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH.

Because who gives a shit how other people do pve in this game. I fought her with the craftsman's hammer, and she was still easy to kill.

People can, for example, cheat in PvE np for me, i dont care, but saying a boss is easy and then using double avelyn is just stupid, because with double avelyn the game itself is easy. Even PvP.

I didn't even find the Avelyn until NG+; I indicate in the description that the footage isn't mine. I rolled straight melee on my first playthrough.

This illustrates my thoughts exactly. Whats worse is in the sunken king dlc they were like "Lets re-texture of nashandra, make her spam random spells we already made, and summon a boss we already made as well as skeletons to make it spooky!" That boss was particularly uninteresting and fighting it was just a boring chore, rather than a harrowing experience. Even the supposed lore behind why she summons Velstadt is contrived bullshit.

I think people literally missed this when they watched the video. I too enjoyed the DaS2 bossfights... for the most part... especially in the DLCs... well 2/3rds of the bosses there mostly. I can at least thank them for creating Sir Alonne. It was just a really fun boss. Not particularly hard until NG+++... etc., but it was all about the atmosphere with that one.

I like the Ruin Sentinel fight but I think their boss design seems really out of place. They look like something from ancient Egypt.

To be honest, I enjoy Dark Souls 2 perhaps as much as I enjoy Dark Souls 1, and I admit this video gave me quite the laugh, especially at the end with the little Pikmin bit. A sub for you, friendo!

Some bosses were fairly easy, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the game. Definitely not a shit game, just didn't meet expectations of fans.

No, it was a pretty bad game, but thankfully it appears Hidetaka and the A Team at From are working on Project Beast, so we'll get a real souls game in the near future.

I can't believe the DLC bosses are even LAZIER 3 NPCS AND ONE OF THEM IS LITERALLY HAVEL NASHANDRA 2.0 ANOTHER DRAGON LITERALLY SMELTER DEMON BUT BLUE BIG DUDE WITH WEAPON BIG DUDE WITH WEAPON OH COOL, A NEW BOSS DESIGN, A TIGER LITERALLY THAT SAME TIGER AGAIN IN THE SAME DLC ONLY THERE'S TWO THIS TIME BIG DUDE WITH WEAPON AND TONS OF LITTLE DUDES (to be fair that one is good) FUCKING FROM

Am I literally the only guy that played Dark Souls 1? I seem to remember a ton of bosses that is a guy with a weapon.

There were some guys with big weapons but those fights remained unique, Ornstein and Smough both had unique move sets which you have to account for and then you had the super variant. Bosses like Nito, you had ever respawning skeletons, Four Kings battle set up was pretty unique. The only two straight up big guy with sword fights that I can think of are the Iron Golem and Artorias, and Gwyn. Now when you look at the rest of the boss cast, most of them consisted of some type of creature like Sif, Sanctuary guardian, Bed of Chaos, or Seath. At the very least there was alot more creativity in those bosses, when compared to DS2 which were mostly just man fights or copy pasting the boss multiple times.

And Dark Souls 1 didn't copy paste bosses? Literally Asylum Demon 3 times. This shit is just parroting Matthewmatosis word for word without like, even thinking at all.

I will agree that the asylum demon case is correct but it also isn't an issue of how many big weapon enemies there were, more so the fact that which bosses were more memorable and unique, and in this case I would say that DS1 takes the cake for that. And like I said before, alot of those enemies you've named have some kind of unique element that makes that boss fight different. O and S have two enemies with unique movesets and a super variant, Priscilla can go invisible, Capra has the dogs that make that fight difficult, Nito with the everlasting respawning skeletons. Also I feel we can do without the insults.

Sir Isis You seriously glossing over Demon of Song, Skeleton Lords, Executioner Chariot, Throne Watchers (they revive each other), Freja, and like... I don't even know. All the Lord Soul bosses in Dark Souls 1 barring Bed of Chaos you just wear heavy armor and mash R1. I cannot even begin to imagine how someone says the bosses are flat out worse or whatever for Dark Souls 2, while 1 had many problems. There are no bosses as bad as Firesage Demon (for the third time!), Bed of Chaos or Seath the Scaleless R1 mash fest.

The problem is that I really don't see Skeleton Lords or Demon of Song to be particularly challenging, and therefore didn't leave very much of an impression on me. Those bosses really felt like they were just there same with covetous demon. Brutalcumpowder's representation of Throne Watcher and Defender of being just two big people with weapons I will agree is out there. I think in all this we're forgetting that this is Brutalcumpowder's videos we're walking about here.

I agree that the humanoid gimmick gets a little tired after a while, but all the knight guys fit the backstory of the game quite well, what with kings and queens and stuff. I'd say that as a whole, they took a different approach to boss design to make some of them feel more like mini-bosses, and just generally streamlined the game. That's not entirely a good thing, obviously - the bonfire placements are erratic and some of them are useless.

Okay, I take issue with this. This same half-assed logic can be applied to the first game. Hell, if any Dark Souls game was guilty of being uninspired (which they aren't), DS1 would be much more so. Asylum Demon: Big monster with a big weapon Taurus Demon: Big monster with a big weapon (pulled straight out of mythology, too) Capra Demon: Big humanoid (Apparently that's a sin) with not one, but TWO big weapons *gasp* While we're at it, Demon Firesage: Literally Stray Demon, but SET ON FIRE. That's it! Just set a boss on fire, and you've got a new boss design. Easy peasy! Stray Demon: Probably their worst example of laziness, literally Asylum Demon just scaled up 2 to 3 times Crossbreed Priscilla: Big humanoid with big weapon Ornstein and Smough: Two big humanoids with big weapons Four Kings: FOUR big humanoids with big weapons Sanctuary Guardian: Basically a Manticore. Pulled straight out of mythology. Manus: Big monster with big weapon Gwyn: Humanoid with big weapon So, here we have a large amount of bosses that are basically big monsters or humanoids with big weapons. Is that lazy? Hell no! They all look radically different from each other. Then why are you using this same flawed logic for Dark Souls 2? Sure it has its share of big humanoids with big weapons, but they too look largely different from each other from the bulky Dragonriders to the slender Ruin Sentinels, to the Pursuer who's moveset is just awesome to look at, to the Rotten who is just a cool idea in and of himself. PS: Way to mock Japanese people with Seppuku. Very tasteful.

Some had neat gimmicks, like poison and water and circular arenas that affect combat, but shit like that didn't help in the long run.

I don't get all the hate for Dark Souls 2. Sure, it doesn't quite live up to the previous installment, but personally I found it to be a great game nonetheless.

Quizerno The level design and enemy design isn't as good, but the gameplay is more balanced between PvP and PvE. Bosses aren't as good - beat many of them on my first encounter with them - but they are still worth fighting.

"Easy, Boring Nito" Funny how the fights aren't remotely similar, and Nito is even more of a push over WITH extra mobs on the fight that you seem to hate so much. Souls series bosses have always been shitty, Demon's/Dark Souls 1 bosses were just as shitty, take off the nostalgia goggles.

But his boring moveset actually works because of his summoning mechanic. The fight can get pretty chaotic if you get a player invasion.

The thing people don't seem to realize with DS2 is that more=worse boss fights. Every enemy you add takes more processing power and makes the fight less interesting.

It also generally lowers the space of movement and attacking for a player resulting in more time with their shield raised or more time with them rolling, just padding out the boss fight with more boredom
