The people criticising Elden Ring for being “big dark souls” never understood what made Dark Souls 3 special and why that statement is nothing but a good thing
The soulsborne series arguably has one of the most pretentious and hardcore lore of any game but damn fromsoft really knows how to make a shitty lore still be interesting to many.
Honestly the final fight with Gale is a masterpiece in itself. My fave final boss fight ever. It's basically the apocalypse of the setting. The two last things. A slave knight cursed forever to fight for the gods and the Ashen one, someone who tried and failed to link the fire fighting at the edge of the world and the end of time for the Dark Soul. Truly epic
One person put it quite eloquently; at the end of the world, it just comes down to a fight in the middle of nowhere between two nobodies fighting over nothing. And if that isn’t the epitome of all dark souls lore idk what is.
I love how in the nameless king boss fight they leave your souls in a nice spot for you outside the boss room, they knew death was certain so they threw us a bone lol
Charlie's first playthrough of ds1as zitler is what got me into dark souls and completely changed my taste in games. If I never saw that video I'd be missing out on my favorite series of all time.
As I’m playing elden ring, I’ll never forget this game. It was so beautiful, and my friend that passed away introduced me to it. I miss you J wish you could see elden ring
Without fail, no matter how much you show that you know what youre doing, someone in chat will try to tell you every single thing about the game even if youre currently doing it. I had a guy tell me how to use spells when i was playing a pyromancer like thanks man
I remember i was streaming bloodborne and doing ng+ with an overpowered ass beast claws build and the stream just watched me delete Lawrence and some guy had the gaull to come in and say if I needed help he would hop on his modded account and kill a boss in one hit for me. I banned him
@@hugmuun This says more about you than the other guy. The fact that you immediately assume it's an insult and raise your defenses shows that you might have other issues to deal with and most likely a very fragile ego. But hey, that's probably where your viewers come from. A lot of people these days can relate to the fragile ego part.
i have excalty 516 hours on steam alone, and i have on the ps4 too lol and thats just dark souls 3, i have a ton of hours on the others too, but i have over 1500+ on dark souls 1 on xbox 360, ps3, steam, and after 60fps community patch came out lol, plus remastered on steam,,,all combined.
It's also sad. It's even more sad because Miyazaki confirmed that he may never work on another Dark Souls Games. Yes he might keep going with the soulslike formula, but we may never see Dark Souls 4.
Me after some BS hit boxes: “WTF THIS GAME IS GARBAGE!!!” Charlie: “dang that sucks. Dan thank you for the sub.” Um I haven’t checked this in 7 months but Holy crap, thanks for the likes!
@@DonkeyWork420 I love this one because out of 680 somethin hours and Ng+38 I have never once been cocked by the Dancer’s grab, but I see it happen ALL the time to everyone else Edit: Just got to the part where it happens to Charlie FUKN hilarious!! lmaoo
Kinda funny, those Sellsword Twinblades were nerfed into the dirt over and over by FromSoft, and they're still meta :( Charlie never figured out the true wombo combo for them either - L1 -> L2 -> R2
@@TheStraightestWhitest I mean, maybe you're right - been a while. But last I checked, I'm pretty certain L2 - > L1 isn't a true combo? As in, if you land the first hit, the entire combo is guaranteed because of how poise and hyper armor works in DS3. I'm certain it's L1 for initiating in dual wielding mode and if that connects, it's L2 to instant weapon art and R2 to extent the weapon art for a 1000 damage true combo. But again, yeah - maybe you're right. You can always check it yourself on the Fextralife Wiki - I'd do it myself, but in too busy getting my ass handed to me in the Caria Manor in Elden Ring right now XD
@@anarchicnerd666 Good on you. Don't waste time on Fextra. Use it productively and play Elden Ring instead. No that's not sarcasm. It's GOATED. But while I don't remember exactly when this change came about, the current combo is L1 > L2 > L1. It's a true combo in PvP. I think it deals roughly the same damage as L2 > R2, but it's more fp efficient so that's why people use it.

Wolnir is the weirdest boss in souls. Sometimes he's my toughest opponent for like half the game, and then I go back and it's like "did he even attack me?"
@@shawnmarcum8078 I hate when ppl make this argument they blame them for being lazy when "reusing areas" when it's a sequel to the 1st game (idk bout 2nd its wierd wit it) like no sh1t theres gonna be stuff from the 1st game cause it's continuing the story, so many games as well reuse assets it's just a known thing that devs do. Also ds1 is what I think u mean but the opposite, the first half of ds1 till anor Londo is amazing, but then it starts to fall off with rushed areas and bad pacing. It seems a bit disingenuous to say that for ds3 when everything had time to ve developed unlike ds1 which is clearly lacking in design and time when it was being developed. Then again both games have their flaws in certain aspects, I will also say spam rolling isn't a thing, in pvp yeah but in pve no, literally everyone spam rolls at the start and rightfully gets punished for it. If spam rolling was a thing all beginners would've blown through the game cause everyone spams roll on their first playthrough at the start (if your inexperienced)
@@anorlondo4665 you should try it in ds3. If you have some friends to play with it's really fun to run through the game that way or just do fight clubs etc. If you're on xbox the club feature is really helpful.
@@nocommas6915 the posture system is back but invisible. Charged heavy and jumping attacks do way more posture damage and parries don’t instantly break every foes posture, the last boss of the network test needed to be parried twice before you could riposte. So rather than R1 spam you are rewarded for finding openings to charge an R2 or jump over an attack for the extra posture damage and ripostes.
As someone who played the network test, it's far more ds3 with a mix of 2, than it is close to sekiro. Besides the jump in it but you're not using it a whole lot in combat usually
I am Matt Damon turning Old whenever someone says a 5 year old game "holds up". It's only 5 years. That's not much, especially in this era where the technological leaps have slowed way down. What progress would you say has been made in action RPGS in these 5 years gameplay wise?
47:07 there are many moments that make DS3 a masterpiece, but I just wanted to point out in retrospect how much of a masterpiece the Abyss Watchers fight is.
@@dexorne9753 It wasn't a hard fight for me either (Hollowslayer GS 2strong) but still a very impressive one. The bleakness these games can convey is incredible. Poor watchers... Perhaps it was fate they would re-enact Artorias' legacy to its bitter end.
I’ve beaten Midir so many times that watching Charlie run under him to try and avoid the standing-fire-breath-down attack made me want to throttle my screen. It worked, but it physically hurt me to see
@@greiratbestnpc One of the best bosses ever and it’s not even close. Definitely difficult, but if you use the sellsword twinblades or anything that does bonus damage to Abyssal enemies, it’s gets easier
When I first fought midir , I did never go under him and fought him face to face because it made it easier for me to see his attacks , turns out this is actually the right way to fight , no wonder why I beated him second try , it so much easier like this

@@yurtthesilentgod1225 sadly isn't possible rn, from soft took every dark souls server down due to an exploit with which someone could steal other people's personal data
I thoroughly enjoyed Charlie shitting on the Dark Souls elitist gatekeepers that popped up throughout the game. Dark Souls simultaneously has one of the best, most helpful communities and one of the worst, most toxic ones at the same time.
The git gud meme is an extremely mixed bag like someone asking for help on a boss that has a bit of a trick to it and responding "git gud" is dickish but it's a great response to people who say shit like "this game is shit and anyone who defends it is an idiot".
It's my first souls game. I'm in Anor Londo. I'm so proud of myself for making it this far. The Abyss Watchers was torture until I realised that I just had to stay close to him in the second phase. There's no point trying to run away. After that, I almost quit playing because of how annoying the Catacombs were. Now I'm just going back to places that I missed before killing the Dancer and Aldrich. There's so much shit to do. Great game.
Just wait for the nameless king!! I just finished my second play through of dark souls 3 and the first time I played it took me 3 days to beat the nameless king the second play through beat him on my first attempt you just can’t give up!
That’s so awesome to hear, persevering through the toughest bosses are what make these games so rewarding! Ds3 in particular has incredible bosses and great replay ability. Good luck on the rest of your playthrough!
Praise the sun brother. I'm on my first playthrough as well. I've only used one summon and that was for the dancer. Not gunna lie. It's been a journey and I'm stuck at prince lothric right now
@@spicybankai if a fight has summons anyway just summon in a player to help you, they are much more useful than the npcs. You can also specify what kind of summons you want as well like mage and cleric builds for support or tank builds etc. You can specify what level you want the summons to be if you don't want to be carried too... lots of options with it tbh. Ignore people who say not to use summons it's literally the most fun way to play the game and it will also allow you space to study the bosses movements and attack patterns. The club feature on xbox is actually awesome for that.
I remember fighting Slave Knight Gael in the dlc, my god I was LAUGHING with excitement as he jumped around and he had this move where he jumped over you and took out his crossbow and shot it at you. It was so fucking awesome, I was just in awe. This game is still PEAK for me.
I think its so cool how every dark souls had a unique strength that made it great, 1 had incredible atmosphere and level design, 2 had deep meaningful pvp, and 3 was designed with sick boss fights in mind making almost all of them memorable
Something I'll always love in a video game is when enemies can hurt each other. It just makes fighting a group of enemies less stressful, like yeah there's still a good chance they'll just gangbang you, but they could also trip over each other and make the fight super easy for you. Really the thing I like the most about Souls games in general is the fact that most things that apply to enemies also apply to you. You can back stab enemies, but they could also back stab you. You can parry enemies for a visceral attack, but other hunters can do the same to you. At the very least there will be some enemies that can do the same things you can do, like healing, or how Owl in Sekiro could Mikiri counter you. It just makes the difficulty feel fair because how can you complain about enemies using your same methods against you? If you're running around back stabbing everything all day you can't start crying when an enemy manages to back stab you.
Owl is one of my favorite souls bosses I keep hoping we get a Sekiro DLC or add-on that gives you a spritual wolf to use, akin to Owl's spiritual owl, but alas, I don't see it happen.
@@alexk7967 Honestly, I think 3 is better for me. Diversity has consumed me too much. Heck, you can even create a full-fledged hunter build inside this game if you want! The bandit's knife does a lot of damage and is quite fast, because of the bleeding, the quick step has more invulnerability shots, and it's so much fun! Bloodborne is still one of the best games ever made.
@@alexk7967 i love Bloodborne, i have a bonfire tattooed on my forearm, and the skull is wearing a hunter cap, i prefer DS3 because the vibes are very different, i have more options for builds, and the world and lore just hit different for me

I recently got DS3 and all its dlc on console and I have to say, while it is difficult at times, I was expecting a way harder experience. Im doing a strength build with a great curved sword (forgot the name) and the undead armor set. Pretty fun but some of the regular enemies are hella annoying. I still have plenty of bosses to fight tho thanks to the dlc but as far as main story, I just need Lothric and then the final boss

I remember in my first and blind run I found dancer instead of Vordt and thought she is the next boss… I eventually killed her but man was I upset about the difficulty spike
I think one of my favorite soulsborne fights is Sister Friede. She has such dramatic music, the attack patterns are vicious, and the fact that it's a pure skill based fight just makes it all the better. You can't really get screwed fighting her. You simply need to use your brain, memorize the patterns, and punish her.
Kind of, using an ultra greatsword is bit rough for the fight cause she'll zoom off after giving you a few slaps to the face. It was miserable. and i hated it. loved darkeater and gael though, cause as difficult as they were at least i could go blow for blow with them.
Slave knight gael is the best boss i have ever fought, not only because of the excellent animations and combat cycle, but of the sheer amount of lore behind him 10/10
Finally played dark souls 3 this year and is hands down one of the best games I’ve ever played, the struggle at the start and the rush when you’d finally beat a boss to when you finally get stuck and need to go back to the drawing board (thanks dragonslayer armour) to then finally getting the mechanics down and getting into the end game was just great, pacing was phenomenal, finally see where all the hype and praise for these games came from and would recommend to anyone who wants a game to get consistently better at
Charlie remembers which chests are mimicks but doesn't remember the bridge you have to lure the ARMY of skeletons onto then smash it so they all fall into the chasm and opens the optional area. Amazing.
Just recently started playing Dark Souls 3 again after a year or two and I'm so glad I came back. Learning most of the lore also adds another layer of appreciation for an already outstanding game. Currently going for all achievements and uhh... screw farming for covenant items.
If your good at pvp, you can get most covenant rewards for just having it on and continuing until you finish ng+2. After you get everything but the covenant rewards, just change ur stats from Rosaria to a luck build and stack item drop stuff. Makes it much easier

I really love Dark Souls 3, and I genuinely love everything about Dark Souls, but the comments that kept popping up of people saying "imagine not doing X" or "Using X weapon is cringe" really puts me off of the community. I realise not everyone is like that, but the sheer elitism and gatekeeping around Dark Souls kept me from playing it until like a year ago.
Yeah it really is disgusting but it genuinely is a small part of the community. They're just very outspoken and loud. Most of the community is supportive and it's one of the best communities to interact with because of the immense love we share for the game. We all laugh about bosses that made us rage, areas like Blighttown that is a pure meme and what are favourite music, bosses areas etc. are. Most of us are very welcoming to new players and love giving advice because we reminice of our first playthroughs of the game. That's why I hate the loudmouths that act like this is some private community of godlike gamers. It's annoying and gives us all a bad rep, it didn't used to be like this around demon's souls - ds1 times but since the games got so much attention for being "hard" it created this weird sub group of people who feel like they're better than everyone else. I recommend just avoiding those people and finding the right people, cause those truly are great.
It is cringe. Especially when you call certain bosses easy and overhyped after being told the best op pve build in the game and then using it for the whole play through..
@@zenjhr9056 It's a game... He made one playthrough of it. He's played it before and just wanted to get another playthrough in. Why are you obsessed with how another man plays his game? If so then get a grip, if you think the Sellswords make the game too easy then fine, but then doesn't it suffice to know that the reason you found it harder was because of the weapon. Just let people enjoy the game however they feel like.
@@sebastianfallman9876 Firstly, of course it’s a game haha quite right. You are partially wrong about his playthrough though, he had played the game up until the ringed city. I have no problem playing through the game again in a fast fun easy paced way, but I will call out ruining a new experience “ringed city” by just trying to blast through it quick as possible, it’s his choice but you could really enjoy the game more if you took time in doing so. Perhaps you are really the only one offended, you shouldn’t be though. maybe what I called out fitted your playthrough of the game too similarly. Play the game however you want because there isn’t anything stopping you but as someone with experience in all the soulsborne games it’s a whole lot more fun going in blind and learning the tricks yourself. It is cringe on his part though being offended by someone making the comment he was using easy weapons.. it’s a fair observation, but like you said it’s just a game. If you haven’t played it already I definitely recommend doing so.
Before Elden Ring this was the game I dumped thousands of hours into… Dark Souls 3 will always be one of my top games & gaming experiences… such a solid game.
Elden Ring did a lot of things better, but it already killed some of the iconic things that made DS3 such a memorable game. Basically, these are the introductions of bosses and their importance in the world.
this has been my favourite video series from you charlie! its just nice to have you on the background to keep company when playing through these games myself
seeing Charlie snapped at the dude on chat who's saying he's overleveled for ariandel dlc and beating boss in couple tries with the cringe twinblades made my day. Timestamps 1:56:37 2:19:17
I mean, they are both wrong and right, but that's the magic of Dark Souls. He might be running op weapons, but he also played a lot of Souls before, so he isn't going in completly blind. He also get spoiled by the tards in his chat. Going Winblades ease up the experience for him, but let's face it, with his experience, I doubt he would die more than 15 times against Midir with any other decent weapon. Being overleveled, if anything, is the game's fault. He didn't farm to get ahead. I faced a similar issue on my first playthrough, because I nearly never lost any souls by dying, resulting in optimal leveling, and being ahead a lot of the time. It didn't ruin the experience either.

Never played a Dark Souls game and I know nothing about the lore, but that cinematic with Father Ariandel was one of the coolest and most chilling things I've ever seen in a video game. Seriously so cool.
By far my favourite game in the series, it seemed to perfect (almost) everything from the darksouls series. I still play the game now with so many characters and challenge runs.
shitty brain-dead combat, gotcha traps spammed everywhere, obnoxious audio, easy bosses, boring/goofy enemies, awful camera you have to fight against, broken terrain, and at least half of the game is reused content in lower quality, what are you talking about lmfao
Oh god remind me, had to help my friend with Midir who was at like NG 6-7 while I was NG 3. I suggested we alternate during the battle and for some ungodly reason, decided to solo the fight for him. I know its sometimes easier solo, but its one of the harder bosses for me and my friends. Good lord the rush from doing it tho was great
Midir’s pretty easy once you get him stuck in his attack loop, the moment you gain distance from him he’ll get you, attack his head, dodge, repeat for 5 hours because he has the health pool of the entire series’ bosses combined.
I was like, "If he kills Midir in less than 10 tries, I'm gonna shit my pants." Now I need someone to pay for my cleaners because that was my last pair of pants.
I played dark souls 1 about 8 years ago and died, a lot, looked up so guides and there were a lot of elitism and gatekeeping with the community that put me off. I didn’t want to be a newbie and get shit on because of it but I just bought dark souls 1, 3 and bloodborne. Haven’t played yet (just about to) I’ve now realised that there’s still a large portion of good people in the community, the games themselves look amazing and I want something that’ll give me a challenge. It took almost 10 years but I think now I’m ready for soulsborne
Is this a safe space? Since when do people allow ''you shouldn't use this'' comments to put them off an entire game? The fuck? Couldn't be me. I used a greatshield on my first DS3 playthrough, got criticised for it, dropped it and worked on my timing like a normal person instead, and it's my favorite all time game tied with Elden Ring to this day, with over 2K hours in it. I’m glad Charlie is enjoying his time with the dark souls series, the series has to be one of my favorite franchises of games and deserves the praise it gets
Gotta love all the Chad speedrunners in the chat that shit on charlie for not beating the game with his eyes closed, 1 hand behind his back, broken straight sword, no level ups, no hits, no deaths, no armor, beatn' in less than an hour. Which they all have clearly done.
I mean it's not that impossible, I'm sure several of them have done a bunch of runs like. That's something that a lot of players like to do after beating the game, as opposed to PvP.
I had a criticism for dark souls 3 at first that it was way too short, but now I think with the 2 DLCs it’s kinda the perfect amount to blaze through a play through in a weekend which will always be super fun to do
Love how that crystal lizard was actually just harder than index. Also for the swordmaster, the easiest weapon for me to kill him with is estoc or rapier, simply because of their hold attack giving you alot of leeway.
This was my first souls game, I think I was 13 or so and I have the most vivid memory of beating the Abyss Watchers solo and a little under leveled. The moment I beat them I knew I had fallen in love with these games.
50:51 you’re actually correct level 300 is insane for dlc, it’s manageable at level 70 onward ringed city is maybe for people a bit higher levelled but level 300 is like 8 ng+ play throughs worth
1:38:18 As a person who's memorized literally every aspect of this boss after fighting it hundreds of times as long as you get nowhere near the dragons legs it'll never once use the fire. It's basically the game saying "No that's not how you figure this out stop trying to make it too easy for yourself."
