@@imjusttoby1 dishwashers have a use, that's disrespect to good machines 😂 these bots are more like the rusting engine block lying in some trashy family's front yard
I still can't get how Cuphead took years of work and details but is only 20 dollars compared to triple A games that are pumping out mediocre games for 60 dollars
Honestly the fact that the two brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhaur were so dedicated to the project that they quit their day jobs and remortgage their houses just to finish the game only for the game to be a walloping financial success is nothing short of amazing. They were aware of the slim chance of their game not succeeding but they didn't care anyway and Cuphead came out to world wide acclaim singing it's praises with its tough as nails game play, beautiful traditional hand drawn animation, a rocking authentic jazz orchestrated soundtrack and watercolor backgrounds and it's completely deserving of said praise. It went platinum (sold 1 Million copies) within the first 2 weeks of it relasing and by the middle of 2018 it tripled, it won 3 Guinness World Records, 15 awards, has had countless of merchandise ranging from Plushies to Action Figues, Books, Graphic Novels, CDs/Vinyl Records, a mii costume in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and even a fucking Netflix series coming out this year. On top of all that the fabled DLC that's been in development since 2018 has is finally coming out on June 30th 2022 so you already know it's gonna make cuphead even more popular in conjunction with the Netflix series. Needless to say Cuphead has become an absolute indie juggernaut and one of my personal favorite video games not only to comeout within last decade but of all time and I'm so excited to see what StudioMDHR has to do with not only Cuphead but any future projects they have lined up in the future.
Wasn’t CupHead second only to DDLC on Steam? If I remember the ranking (I can’t remember if it was game of the year or how many people had played the game) it went: 1. DDLC 2. CupHead 3. A Hat in Time
It also got a fighter and soundtrack in SSBU which despite not being a full blown character does cement it up there with legends like Minecraft, Skyrim, Mario, LoZ, and the likes
Cuphead even as big as it was at one point is still under appreciated. Every animation was hand drawn, the music fully orchestrated, and it looks and sounds exceptional because of it. It will take a lot for any game to come even close to the perfect stylisation in this game.
This game is so overrated in difficulty. People say its harder than the soulsborne's. the cuphead bosses all took me only a couple of tries to beat. I've been stuck on genichiro for days...
@@ghostlymeteor2747 I had a way easier time with soulsborne personally. But I also think it's cause I enjoyed that gameplay more. Not that Cuphead is bad, just not my cup of tea. That being said have fun with Sekiro final boss, that guy put a hole in my cheap ikea table
38 frames for 5 seconds, imagine drawing the same character 38 times doing different things for 5 seconds. The developers didn’t make a game, they made art.
To be fair there aren’t many fully animated segments that go on for 5 seconds in-game without looping outside of maybe boss intro’s and faze transitions.
The run and guns were actually a late decision to add. It was originally just bosses. I can't remember where in development they decided to add the run and guns, but it makes sense the bosses are better designed since that's what the devs planned right from the start.
The game originally didn't even have an overworld. It was supposed to be like a mega man game where you have a list of bosses and you select one to fight. That's it. No map, no run and guns and almost no story. Suffice to say I think adding all those in really benefited the game.
@@thrallfan1056 yeah. Although a little more work could’ve probably helped, although given the overall presentation and how almost everything else succeeds where the run n gun stages fall short, I think most could forgive them.
This game was so much more brutal than it needed to be. Devs must have wanted players to feel the pain that they felt spending hours and hours drawing everything by hand.
@@kingtut5520 You only took half of what I said. Besides anything financial, I said that Cuphead was widely considered a great time by the many. So your comparison falls flat. I don't know anything about Fallout 76, it's sales or it's popularity, so I don't care about the comparison either way.
@@jalen40k45 I really don’t care what other people think is good lol. I actually think the game is pretty well designed and by no means bad. But the fact that it forces you to play on such a hard difficulty alienates casual players or those who do not frequently play platformers (like me). Considering there’s probably not a huge scene for “professional cuphead,” not adding an optional easier difficulty was a lame decision from an otherwise seemingly competent dev team
I just only realised how old this game is. As of now, it's been more than 4 years since its initial release. Why does it feel like just a year or two ago lmao
It's really cool watching you play this again man. Me and my dad used to watch your old streams of this game on repeat. He passed away recently and now I watch them with his ashes. I'm gonna beat this game for him
@@Idenquinn I asked my friend from the PH and she said they very rarely cremate bodies there (in places like Manila it's more common, but still not nearly as ubiquitous as it is in places like the US and UK), so I'm going to assume the guy didn't understand why his dad would be ashes and was confused. No reason to commit murder just yet.
I studied game development and design for 3 years, and in my first year some of the first animation work i did were sprite sheets. This game seriously is a masterpiece. The amount of time and work that went into making just the animations alone is insane.
@@marvelousball right - the ego on the dude is actually kind of impressive though. he was so conceited that maybe he thought he found a bug, or that everyone would empathize with him, instead of clowning on him for all eternity, so even though he failed the tutorial of a game that preteens can speed run, he still hit the upload button on the video proof 🤣without even attempting to figure himself out and re-record. the audacity
I doubt Cuphead will ever be considered obsolete because the animation style is so unique and is also incredibly difficult to perfect, which is what the devs did
@@popojelly1895 You mean "dated", not "obsolete". 'Dates' is in appearance of themes, 'Obsolete' is in technology. In 100 years when everyone's gaming with holograms and 4D headsets, Cuphead will definitely be obsolete, but it will NOT be dated.
I played Cuphead on my shitty laptop when it came out. The green dragon was the point for me to stop, I almost went insane. Took a long break from the game, a couple months or even a year, after that I beat the fucker pretty fast and finished the rest of the game.
Lol I haven’t played the game in months and guess where I stopped… The mfn green dragon, hopefully the time off rubs off on me as well as it did to you since I will now be picking this game up again
Update: after 3 playing sessions I have 3 bosses left… the dragon and birdhouse gave me so much trouble on isle 2 but still beat them in my first session back (:
Cuphead is honestly the best looking game of all time. In terms of art style it is unmatched. My brother and I played it when it came out and just recently we went back though and beat it again. Can't wait for the DLC in june!
Idk I mean something like rdr2 is a totally different style but in terms of pure technical spectacle I’d say it beats this out. But this def nails it’s own unique style
@@bosco5996 RDR2 is easily the most beautiful in terms of the combination of technical spectacle, environmental design, and arguably lighting. That game will be jaw dropping a decade from now, and that’s not even getting into the voice acting, storyline, random events, etc.
he doesnt know there is a plant button so he can aim while standing still im assuming he did in the past and maybe thats his point of having a harder time
This game was hands down the most difficult time I’ve had gaming. Darksouls and other difficult games don’t hold a match. You can get bullshit deaths in those games. But cuphead makes it feel as if everything is possible if played perfectly, and luck plays no role in your win.
As someone who S-Ranked every single boss and P-Ranked every single Run N Gun, I can tell you that this game is absolutely fair, and, in fact, easy if you get to know every enemy intimately. Even easier if you bring the right items.
I remember when I first beat the game, man it felt so rewarding. A challenging game, but super fun with a beautiful art style. A blessing to gaming for sure.
Fleischer Bros are very proud to the Cuphead developers for keeping their legacy alive through the "rubberhose animation". One of the Fleischer Bros even invented "rotoscope" and the ball that bounces on the lyrics you see in any karaoke.
@finnmarr-heenan2397 yeah, when I played, it just felt like ai was in a massive maze, and even with the map, when I entered a new place, I would have no idea what to do there
One of my most favourable games EVER. It has that cute charm, differently fun bosses and levels with quite the story. Easy game controls yet still some difficulty to make the game more enjoyable, and when you get hit in here, you know that majority of the time it was yourself that made the mistake making it hard to get mad at this game and not yourself. A lot has gone into this game and I find myself wanting to go back and play it every so often, even though I beat it with each game slot being at %200. Glad to see Charlie playing it and Liking it
This game was deceptively hard. On top of that the craftsmanship that went into drawing this by hand frame by frame is insane. Still haven't beaten it but there's a decent chance I'll play it again once I have more time.
My favorite game of all time, amazing music, amazing visuals, super well designed bosses and platforming levels Was def kinda buggy on release and even then it was a blast. Playing this on a 1st playthrough as co-op made it that much better too
@@bigboi5545 yea there were some fun bugs too, like the one where you could shoot the genie boss from like underneath the stage or something between transitions (been a long time so I don't totally remember)
I just bought this over christmas after wanting it since release, and it was a blast. Took me a couple days to beat it, and had fun the whole way. The art and animations are amazing
I remember I picked this game up on Switch for the first time because I had a really long day of flying (I worked in the airline industry at the time) and I ended up beating the game while constantly fighting joy con drift.
Playing this game after the hype has died down personally was fun, however i found some of bosses less fun than others [the robot actually being the only boss i thought was kinda bad] and some of projectile visibility was also quite messy in something like Hive battle imo. But its still a solid 9 for a me.
Agreed, haven't actually fought the robot yet bit that sums up how I feel pretty well. I went for A-ranks and I found that the Dragon is straight BS since the only parryable projectiles are the rings in phase 1 and he only shoots it like 3 times. Game is incredible though
I disagree, I’d imagine you find the bosses bad because they’re really tough, which is understandable. Most people regard Doctor Kahl’s robot as one of the toughest bosses. Obviously some bosses stand out above others, but they are all pretty exceptional imo. I also thing the projectiles are pretty easily visible, but when there’s a lot happening on screen I can understand why you’d think that as well. The only issue I really see is the rng platforms on the dragon boss and the queen bee.
@@michaelturner5093 It is strange that those are the only parry-able projectiles, but it’s very easy to farm them. If you don’t get all 3 on his first burst, then you can just wait till his second burst without sending him to the next phase. You can still finish the boss with par time even after waiting.
@@thebadwolf3088 I mean that’s just not true, obviously it’s tough not to get hit, that’s just the point of the game. I just don’t think that’s a reasonable criticism, considering it is very obviously possible.
The achievements in this game were more than a pain, but man it just made getting them feel even better, like earning pacifist on all run n guns, and averaging an A on every area in the game
I remember everyone was crowding around this one kid as they beat Grim Matchstick in our choir class with the substitute not caring and everyone cheered
I got all the way to the end (to the casino) and then just stopped playing for some reason. I don’t know how I had the patience to get to the end tho. Some bosses took me 2 or 3 hours lol
it is very humbling to see a god like charlie get salty and actually have trouble with a difficult game, makes me feel better about myself for not doing well either at the run and guns
The animation in this game is amazing It gives you (well, me) a certain feeling of anxiety I'm not sure why - could be all of the strange facial expressions. But it's also so fuckin detailed and interesting and RANDOM that you can't guess what you're going to see next. Very unpredictable and fun and terrifying all in one.
I would like to say it took me 3 hours to beat goopy the slime that most say is the easiest boss in the game, then I immediately defeated Von Bon Bon first try who is probably the hardest boss out of the 3 you can pick at that point.
cup head is the perfect example of what can happen if you unleash a team of overly creative graphic designers and game devs and give them little to no limits within the boundaries of a desired theme
for me its so much more fun to watch someone with a normal amount of skill play this game. watching speedrunners is really fun right after you played thru the game yourself so you can see how crazy good those people are but, it doesn't have the same tension and feel of progression you get with watching a normal gamer struggle for every victory. (I know you could argue that for speedrunners the struggle and victory is with the PB and WR but you have to be invested in those communities to really care about that part of it, for me watching a speedrunner is just watching someone play the game perfectly and then still getting angry with themselves that they didn't do it as perfectly as humanly possible which i wouldn't be able to tell the difference between without watching side by side)
I loved this game. This game’s visuals, controls, gameplay is so good and I beat this game on Switch. This game is very hard so you have to try very hard to get through the Run ‘n Gun levels and the bosses.
So great to watch him play this especially since I just started a new playthrough, he could've been using the charge shot this whole time this poor guy 😂
I’m so glad Charlie came back so this game it’s so good and was truly cherished and cared for by the developers for every bit of effort put into the game from the hand-drawn animations to the beautiful orchestral music, as a game design student this is a lot of my inspiration! I’ve s and p ranked all the levels twice now on the switch and steam versions over the years and dammit I’ll do it again!
This is so weird I just got it for the first time and have been playing it for the past few days, the fact it’s been out for like 4 years and I see a new video about it randomly is just a wee bit silly bonkers and Maybe even crazy.
