I like how the devs have the Ringed City DLC in mind from the start. As you can see, the opening scene of this cinematic is the last arena of Dark Soul's franchise where you fight, undoubtedly one of the greatest boss fights ever, Slave Knight Gael.

Even now, almost two months after Elden Ring premiere Dark Souls III will have a special place in my heart as the first soulsborne game I've playied. Maybe it was the last of the franchize, but for me it was the begining

The abyss watchers are probably one of my favorite boss in the soulsborne series ever. How they rise up from their tombs into the light and the music that goes along with the scene is memorable.

Doesn't matter. Whether you like the Dark Souls games and their successors or not. What matters is that dudes create video game art. At a level that, many years later, some modern developers do not even dream of. Appreciate this vibe, the lords of cinder rise from their graves once again.

Dark souls three is like one of those anime’s with a really powerful protagonist. Except you’re not the protagonist.

Did anyone else get a Demon's Souls Phalanx, Dark Souls Artorias, and Dark Souls 2 Giant king (forgot his name) sorta vibe from the three bosses? The blob really reminded me of Phalanx though which is fucking pumping me up for a game that brings all three worlds together!

I absolutely adore how this cinematic introduces some of the most important characters in the game, doing it in just a few seconds but giving all the characterisation you'd need for them. Not that you won't get more later, but even this would be enough. - Each of them rise as Lords of Cinder, telling you immediately that they already *HAVE* linked the Fire, but are back for some reason. Essentially, you are immediately given an idea that these were mighty warriors of their time who chose to burn and then were eventually struck down by their successors. - They are each given grand titles, such as "Undead Legion" and "Reclusive Lord" to immediately give them some character via narration. We know immediately that Aldritch is some religious figure, that the Abyss Watchers are an army, not an individual and that Yhorm is a shy boy without ever meeting them. Yet this isn't just boring narration, it's magnanimous, grand and you might even say hopeful at this point, introducing each for their quality of Lord of Cinder and almost sounding like an awe-struck fortune teller predicting the great age of Cinder. - Their physical appearance are then used to build up (or tear down) said narrative description. For "Saint" Aldritch, who bears no further description, you see him blob forth from his crypt, all mushy and liquified, causing you to wonder just what kind of fucked up faith made HIM a saint. But then Yhorm's description of "Reclusive", is compounded by him BUSTING to the surface alone, abandoned, a king in an empty, ruined city, with a scream you might as well assume to be from him. And the Abbyss Watchers not only have Artorias's sword design, but their rise from individual tombs highly reinforces their status as a single lord of many figures, as they stand up in sync, looking forlorn and lost, as if they were still ready to watch over the Abbyss, but lost, confused as to where they are and what they are to do. (Which receives even greater significance if you consider what happened to their predecessor, Artorias.) - Their physical appearance is then also used to build up certain other qualities, some related to each other, some entirely unique. Aldritch isn't simply a big pile of goo, but almost looks like a D&D slime, having rotting bones and what seems mouldy meat in his form. This is significant because he's not just weird or disgusting, but horrifying and unnatural, signalling that "he" most likely kills and perhaps even consumes his opponents. The Abyss Watchers and Yhorm both have gleaming armour and weaponry, looking mighty warriors, but with a layer of dust, ash and dirt over them, clearly showing how their time has already passed and they aren't meant to be here, this is a desperate act. Even so, they ARE former lords of Cinder and thus their might is apparent. The Abyss Watchers have gleaming swords and armour, even if their cloaks are torn and dusty. Yhorm meanwhile has more resplendent, kingly armaments, contrasting the fact he looks lost and confused, perhaps that little head tilt showing his absolute devastation at just WHAT he awoke in. These little details in just a few seconds tell you almost everything you need to know about these guys on a rudimentary basis and it immediately outlines who's who. It makes Yhorm feel sympathetic but dangerous, the Abyss Watchers mysterious but heroic and Aldritch mighty and horrifying. It paves the perfect path for the story to then show you more of their work. The heroism and eventual corruption of the Abbyss Watchers, the incredibly disturbing deeds and desperation of Aldritch and the loyalty and suffering of Yhorm, all of which is already hinted at in this tiny intro about them. Man, for all the mechanical mistakes, DS3 has some amazing plot and lore.

I would like to thank From Software and all developers who created "souls" universe for teaching me to never give up even if it seems impossible to beat some enemy or boss. You teach me to have patience and understanding that sometimes you have to fail 1000 times to reach a goal and that the hardwork and trying all over is key to succes. I know that those are just games but my life was changed after playing it.

Since I know Yhorn's story, every time I see this, I can hear his pain in his scream.

best intro in video games in my opinion

Upon watching this cutscene for the first time, when I saw Yhorm, I saw him as this towering monstrosity whose roar sent chills down my spine. Out of curiosity I searched up his lore. I then went back and watched this cutscene again and saw Yhorm for who he really was, a giant who suffered. His roar is literally akin to a scream of agony.

So then on April 12 2016 a AWESOME masterpiece game was born

This is still the best opening in the souls game , if u pay attention to the background music, you will out that it’s playing the remix of the boss and character theme when the character is being introduced

after playing the game i realized why Yhorm roars like that the people who apointed him as thier leader doubted him a lot and after countless times where he proved himself and yet they still doubted him he made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the saftey of his people and well being he went on to become a lord of cinder(wich means feeding himself to the firstflame as to prevent the world from going dark) and when he wakes up he realized he sacrificed himself for nothing and the people did not even care about him such a tragic character and the most painfull thing is that in real life the number of people like this is not low

The first time I play this game I was like “Ok !! That’s it, no more” two weeks later I complete the game for 6th time. There are so many ways to play this game. Is incredible !

Still get teary-eyed from seeing that pilgrim succumb to death, and chills from Yhorm's roar. Master class of immersing you in a completely different atmosphere

This is the coolest intro cinematic of any Souls game

I love how when they show each Lord of Cinder, the theme changes to something that sounds similiar to their themes: Aldritch's Gwyndolin-like theme, Abyss Watchers' bells and choir and Yhorm's "louder" choir.
