DARK SOULS III is where my journey started with this series and will forever hold a special place in my heart. It introduced me to jaw dropping sceneries, lovable characters, stories hidden between the lines, and to this community, this family we all share. And for that my eternal gratitude goes out the team of FROM SOFTWARE and Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Releasing this short film is probably the happiest moment of my whole life so far. For 5 months this project was my day and night and I can safely say that I’m satisfied with how it turned out. A story of my own, made from pure passion to a community I love about a game that I love. But all of this could not have been possible without the help of some incredibly talented people.
𝘝𝘢𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘝𝘪𝘥𝘺𝘢, our resident lore master. Vaati helped me a ton writing and editing the dialogue script, along with being an amazing human person as ever. Thank you my friend for all of your help.

Ok but no more of these emotional videos or we’ll never be able to play these games in good conscious ever again... but it does give me a good idea for a pacifist play through, kill as few hollow (ex-human) enemies as possible, the fewer the better, and no using soul items. Those soul decoy items would be SUPER useful, and your total number of kills would count against your “score” at the end. Co-op with friends recommended (strangers would murder everything in sight lol)

Your videos are always so beautiful. You capture the souls of the series, no pun intended, flawlessly. Never stop doing what you are doing buddy. Oh and one more thing, nobody cares about "canon" and all that crap, especially in the Souls games where cycles and timelines are already established since the first game and are only reinforced with the second and third. If you have more stories to tell, most us would love to see them. Let the "canon" whiners be miserable, nobody cares about them in any franchise. Keep up the good work buddy.

I literally clicked on this video at random when i was looking at recommended videos and i had no idea that there can be done such a good animation with a good written story behind. The only slight problem that i had is that i needed to use subtitles to understand the whispers in some parts of the video.

Yeah, now I'll have to cry when I use a soul of a nameless soldier or whoever. I'll never know their story, for they probably have lost more then me. From now on, I'll carry all those who couldn't make the journey with me to the very end. No matter of I need an extra few Souls I'll will not use them. They like me, where sharing the same journey but sadly were not strong enough on their own. They don't have to be alone any longer. I'll carry them to the Kilm of the First Flame, I'll carry them all the way through the end of the world. Thanks Parry God.

Am Joining The Stanley Cast at this point, this vidéo is well made, even if i though less about the technique, but the message we can see through it is really important. Even is the "Souls" are some items juste here to help us to grow and passe the game easily. In the end, we just consuming a whole being like this. It's something far more than just killing, is ending up definitly something who lived and lost everything before us. As we can see something differently too. Consuming thoses souls make them a part of us, making them pass their journey where they failed so many time, to the final end. Even if this can also be made just by wielding them. But i think it depend mainly of the way you see your journey through, on how much you invest yourself, and wich kind of person you want to be. Using them is purely facultatif, it's easy to pass thoses journey without them. In fact..., i think the worth thing isn't to consume them. It's losing your souls, definitly, having them just vanished forever, for nothin, making all they do pointless, even their death. You make a really great video @TheParryGod And the thing that show it the most is how much we can talk around it and how much it make us think about thoses poor souls.

That moment when he offered her his last humanity sprite, that hurt. He would rather go hollow himself instead of losing a friend. This makes me wonder about the hollows we fight. How many families were torn apart by the curse? How many saw their friends lose themselves before joining them in oblivion? All this suffering, just because a god was afraid of the dark.

I too wonder about the same thing. With all the death and hollows that roam the streets, I sometimes take the time to look around and wonder what life would have been like in Lothric or Londor, or any other kingdom. The festivals they must have had, the celebrations, the families that lived there peacefully. It all makes me wonder of what once was...

@Keenan Lacelle ... And each time the flame linked is weaker. And the world decays faster. You can't think, you re saving people, most people in this world already gone dead, undead or hollowed, the whole game perspective is about this fact. You will start the new cycle, yes, but it will take place in the corrupted world, where "lands converge". There will be some happiness and love and light in this world, but sooner than later it will turn to bleakness, decay and despair. I for one dont want such a world. I prefer the Age of Dark we do not know much about, but at least there will not be a Darksign in this world, and human (dark) souls will be free, and their himanity not a lease from the gods to be taken away at any moment but theirs truly posession. And one day tiny flames will dance across the darkness...

@Keenan Lacelle your ideas of how the dark souls world work is naive, theses games are all but black and white and yet this is that kind of thing that you retain from playing them ? the light is literrally the reason as for why there is a curse in the first place, light cursed the dark because it feared it, and yet here you are saying " light good hope, dark bad nihilism " stupidly rekindling the flame is keeping the curse strong just to play the savior, it is solving nothing in the end and in dark souls 3 not even in the short term, that is not hope it's pride and ignorance, the same sins that made gwyn destroy a world over eons of twisted causality because he couldn't accept what must naturally come to everyone and everything, he couldn't accept that the world didn't play by his rules so he fucked him up choosing the darkness is accepting what remain of the flame, stopping the curse, leading hollows to a new cold, dark yet gentle world and giving to humanity a true hope that, one day and with the curse finally lifted, they will be truly happy, in short, it's doing what must be done even if it's hard, even if it's not idealistic, and not what is easy or apease the mind

At the beginning, i thought it could have been Anri and Horace even tho the story didn't match, but in the end, it was simply a really good story about two nameless soldiers. Two nameless soldiers souls.. And we may have consumed their souls by now, without a pity. A sad story, ye, but deeply touching. Thank you, Parrygod, and everyone who worked on it with you.

This reminded me of Lucatiel who only wanted you, someone, ANYone to remember her name as she slowly lost more and more of herself each time you met. Lucatiel is also the one DS2 character whose story I remember. So, excellent work this.

@@agrihonoberjorn1612 Not sure if you're talking about the in game humanity shards but if you are they are definitely not 1:1 ratio to people.... I mean you as a character consume many to prevent becoming hollow and that alone is sufficient to prove they are not 1:1. I see them more like I do "moments' and how they relate to an absolute measurement of time like seconds or minutes, if that even makes sense to you.

@@coreyrachar9694 what you say is probably right. The parts that make up "soul points" are using the individual memories that make up a mortal beings dark soul. So with that being said, when you level up it's like you are rummaging through the souls and souls shards to find some semblance of skill and technique to better fight and survive. Each time needing more and more shards to both keep yourself from hollowing and looking for fresh "memories" to remind yourself, that you are indeed, human.

This is actually so accurate.... All my friends i have used to play this game with, is now hollow... they stopped playing and i am all alone. No matter how many times i link the fire i cannot get them back, everything just starts over and things just get worse. I feel so much absence when playing this awesome game. at least i still remember where i come from.... for now ps: yeah im being overdramatic. nobody died, they just stopped playing this game

Parry God, this is beyond beautiful in a story stand point. You have fully nailed the dark and depressing tone that I felt like Dark Souls III failed to get. You opened my eyes to the bigger meaning to Dark Souls. We all share the same journey but each of us have a different story. Whether we went alone or with others each of us have walked the same path, but with a different outcome. We killed the hollows of those who either didn’t make it or did not want to make it and gave up. The world is dangerous and very unforgiving. No matter what or who you are, you are in danger in Hollowing as the rest of us. Not everyone has made it as far as you or I. Some like the rage quitters who cannot take the burden of their duty are either the hollowed bodies we find on our way or the ones we are forced to kill in order to survive. I knew from the start that they would not make it or have a happy ending. No endings in Dark Souls are ever truly happy, they always end in despair, lies, and death. The many Undead we have met go Hollow or die to the world we all are forced to live in, due to some ambitions of one Lord who could not let go. Now whenever I pick up a soul of a nameless soldier or a nameless hero. I now going to have to think of what was their story. How far did they get. What drove them to go Hollow? Thank you Parry God for a Dark Souls video that doesn’t need a man to explain to me what is a happening (Sorry Vaati) but it is up to me to explain what is happening. You always put time and love into your work which is very admirable for a editor and a director. You show then tell, thats what I like about your work. Keep up the good videos mate

Dark souls 3 definitely didn't "fail to get" that depressing tone, the entire game is drab, desaturated and dying, you can really see the effect linking the flame has had on the world

This is actually even better than anticipated. It is impressive that you managed to make the audience care a lot about 2 silent protagonists, the visuals are incredible that i forgot i still was watching Ds3 and the plot is sad and effective, you didn't just outdid yourself, you accomplished what many others have tried and failed, tell an effective story about hardship, companionship and failure in 20 minutes. Beautiful movie, the visuals, music and character are brought to life so perfectly. Although what stands out the most is how well you have brought the dark souls tone, themes and world into a cohesive and engaging narrative (something very difficult to do). 4 years after dark souls 3 was relased, and 8 years after dark souls 1, still able to create amazing stories out of some truely astounding cinematography and the voice over of the kightness fighting with herself added a whole extra layer to this wonderful little film. Remind me to never use a soul packet again as well, might end up crying

Now, I have the urge to never use consumable souls anymore. I really couldn't tell if it would be worse to consume a "Fading Soul" or the "Soul of a Great Champion." However, in the end, the souls have to be accumulated to reignite the flame again and again, until humanity can finally be freed from this curse, by a red-hooded undead. The alternative take on the story is an amazing idea and the visuals are just stunning. In short: Thanks for this masterpiece.

I instead feel a stronger urge to consume the souls XD. I just feel that if they become part of me, they can fulfil their duty and return to the fire with me, instead of rotting in some corner of the world. In the end, we are not ourselves anymore, our soul has become this cluster of countless souls and wants, our will inherits from those we consumed.

LiL Speng The age of fire may just be a faint dream that Gwyn was trying to prolong, but it was a sweet dream for most people back then. If the fire goes out, everyone would have to face the problem of surviving in the age of deep ocean and my guess is that Gwyn just wanted to protect everyone from that by sacrificing himself. Though I do agree that linking the fire is not a good choice since we now have a new haven named "Ash" (the new painting).

LiL Speng It wasn't only mentioned as a dream, but an insight. In the soulsborne series insights mean more than just thoughts or dreams. Also since he started having dreams after he devoured a god, it's likely that the gods had the same insights. But you're free to have your own thought of the story, that's what makes darks souls' story so attractive.

Oh my god. All the little things you've changed or improved on, the slight movements to the camera frame, the sometimes distinct movements of the character models, the quality of the models, the filters over some shots, the voice-acting, the score, the shepard tones, tthe way you expanded on a tiny bit of lore, this is all just.... I've always been so captivated by the idea of video games as an art, and this is such a unique mode of artistic creation I've never really seen expressed before, telling a unique story but through a familiar setting and a familiar virtual medium. It's so cool! I love your work, I think it's some of the most distinct and endearing stuff (to me, as a souls fan) I know about on youtube.

I can only be stunned about the amount of effort you must have put into this. This is so deeply touching for anyone who has interest in the Souls Lore and the depriving madness of becoming hollow. And the fact that this is only the story of one hollow amongst thousands in one cycle of fading fire amongst hundreds more makes it so much sadder. Thank you for your work. I can't even imagine that ernomous amount work you invested into this masterpiece! First I thought, you will use Hellblade voice lines, then I realized that the voice acting is real. Then I started to pay more attention to the details: the degradation of the armor set to show the mark of the fatal blows the heroine got, the voice edit, the flow of the events. I dropped my jaw! Of course I wanted to know more about the amazing people behind this video, so I checked the credits, then after the surprising names I had to take a look at the location of the channel. This is one of the best shorts i've seen, and i'm a filmmaker who loves post-apocalyptic - and Dark Souls is always in the back of my mind, for years now... gnawing at my humanity... Still, cannot praise enough this original storytelling within this existing bleak and crazily beautiful setting. I've never seen anything that encapsulates so well that feeling of ISOLATION, that DECAY that so many humans underwent on their ill-fated journeys, we heard about, read about and saw the aftermath of, but this really lets us in to EXPERIENCE it. 10/10

I can see the progression of these two, becoming more hollow, armor breaking to pieces eventually, cloth torn to rags and all semblance of sanity and memory gone--only a zombied shadow of their former selves, in distinguishable from the other meek hollows, ravenously wandering the lands looking for souls to replenish their hollow selves...sucks being a DS casual for real. Absolutely stunning work!

This was so good! The message of our 'soul' items now have characters to back it up. It makes them not seem like random items for us to consume but as a marker for those who came - and fell - before our arrival. The other thing I loved about this was the message of Hollowing in DS3. In the other two installments going Hollow was terrible, but narritively and mechanically. In DS3 it doesn't even matter. We are Unkindled, and only through certain means are we to go Hollow. This adds that fear of going Hollow that Lapp had during the Ringed City. That even the most determined of us all can break.

This made me nearly shed a tear. I always was so saddened by the thought of the curse and slowly losing ones mind and humanity, and this even more captures the solace you can take when you find a total stranger on co-op and you can communicate only through emotes. When your faithful unnamed phantom dies and you kill the enemy that slayed him with a vengeance. Of course it brings to mind Lucatiel, who was one of the most impactful characters in all of Souls for me. Her friend offering his humanity almost broke me to shards. This is such a magnificent work, and really makes me feel a new connection to the Souls community. Thank you

Absolute BEAST of a production, holy moly. I've watched your style evolve over the course of your films: the dark souls trifecta saw an increase in technical skill but you followed a similar model of showing us the progression of the game along with some of the more memorable quotes to sort of showcase the story, the Sekiro one was a jump in quality I think (perhaps aided by Sekiro's more in-your-face story, but not only due to that), but NO ONE could've predicted THIS! You made an actual short film out of the game, that's astonishing. I am completely blown away, this was an incredible experience. Absolutely inspirational, I don't know what else to say. Can I donate to you somehow?? Creativity and hard work such as this merits recompense!

Right, so I have now binged all of your Dark Souls fan films and commented on every single one like a proper creep, but I think your art deserves more than to watch them and then just... leave like that. This one hit different, it was absolutely beautiful in all of its sorrow and encapsulated the fate of the Ashen Ones (/Chosen Undead) perfectly. I will watch your films again and again, I'm really blown away by them, they've made this New Year's for me. To have the hollowing process described like this gives me chills. It adds a new dimension to why characters like Lucatiel seem so terrified near the end of it. The cinematography is unbelievably well done and each shot is packed full of the mood and tone that the entire short film resonates with. This is a masterpiece!

This both speaks to the excellence of the game's artwork and to your incredible ability to capture it and use it to convey your own story. Before you sigh in disappointment when getting a Fading Soul, just remember, you'll never know how much worth the sovereign-less were before their degradation of their soul, whether they were just a nobody or incredibly important to someone else. But you may say they were indeed weak since they're just fading; they're not some brave warrior, a hero, or a twisted soul. If the worth of the soul also included their determination and their character, and not just their achievement or title, then any soul would be worth thousands. Many people would stop taking consumable souls after this, I would be the opposite of actually getting any soul but cherish them no matter how little souls I get. Incorporating them to my power and strength is my honor for them. Love this video!

I could talk about the small dialogues, the things that happened in the short story, what they mean, and why they're great. I could talk about how this doesn't even look like the game anymore, but rather animated cutscenes, which I'm convinced some of it has to be animated. I could talk about every soul used by every player while playing the game, claiming the memories of others for their own purpose. I could talk about a more in-game approach, in which every warrior has fed off the souls of hollows, thinking it'll help them achieve their goal, only to die to another of those hollows, become one themselves, and serve the same purpose to another traveler seeking something. I could talk about how important those little, fleeting moments with unknown, nameless strangers, in which an act of kindness was born, those nice invaders, the summons that helped you through the game, somebody answering your question online. I could talk about that nice fashion. I could talk about the small bits of dialogue, that represent what a hollowing person thinks ridiculously well. I could talk about how I await the video in which you show and meme about all that went wrong in the making of this. But I won't. I'll simply enjoy this story, and spend countless nights thinking once again about the meaning of it all.

When he gave her his last humanity - was that heroism or cowardice? If he was still sentient enough to understand that giving her his last humanity was the only way to... preserve her, he probably knew that in doing so he greatly endangered himself. He was going to be hollow before her, and he knew it. I think that's the point in which his character breaks down. He couldn't just bear it to see her go down before him. He left that responsibility to her, to end their journey. I love the depth this series give to the concept of humanity, and you represented it so well I was almost gonna cry in the end. Almost.

Your writing and film editing skills are so great I can't even describe how good it feels to watch this film. It's not only that you got right the entire Dark Souls theme inside here, and packed a great story with the legacy of everything Miyazaki thought about while making this game, but you also showed what is the Dark Souls essence, who is hollow, and what is soul. This is something truly great, and dude I wish I could see more movies from you, you are very skilled at that.

Firstly, congratulations on another beautiful film. As with your other Souls films, the use of editing and camera work was fantastic and it's amazing what you're able to do with the game engine to create these scenes. Story wise, I have often pondered on how it would feel being an undead in this universe: how it would feel reawakening every time after you've died. If you do indeed "lose" parts of yourself with each effort. It brings to mind the effects of long-term depression or a fighting a long disease where you just naturally lose the desire or ability to do things that used to bring you joy (or indeed experience joy from them when you do them), and I especially felt that with some of the dialogue of the whispers themed around giving up and the simple comfort that would come from just lying by the bonfire rather than continuing to fight. I loved the touch at the end connecting it back to the games and the consumable souls. It brings a new sense of meaning to each one you come across, the idea that behind each soul really was the story of an undead who went hollow. And I can't help but wonder what type of soul I would have.

I'll never look at hollows the same way again. Truly a masterpiece in both storytelling and cinematography. Man everything I type sucks lol. I keep trying to... say something and it's just... insufficient. You've rendered an entire damn language I'm generally above average at wielding completely useless. It's been a long time since I stopped analyzing and just watched something without a stray thought in my head. Far as I'm concerned this story is actually canon. This makes me want an official dark souls miniseries where every episode is just covering the various fallen of every age and area. All the lost tales we read about long after the fact brought to life, and having the faintest import to the plot proper.

Absolutely AMAZING movie, don't get me wrong... But I stomped on the Firekeeper's face without a shred of remorse. I'll pop a souls any day of the week. Their death lets me push further, and it would be an insult not to put their final moments to good use.
