Same i have about 20k hours in the souls series in just dks1 i have 10k hours its my most played game and i get why people dont like these games even now i still have trouble with bed and still die to hollows every now and then these games are brutal and not for everyone

@@9474sammus Same. I feel like it's how they approach it. These aren't inherently hard games if you take your time and think. but most people have just heard rumors of how "hard" the game is. and they throw themselves against the wall over and over and build frustration. obviously, that's not a fun time. except for DS2 DLC's there is almost always a way to make a boss or area easier. it's just a game of patience.

​@@GoodMorningHikers Interesting point. Anecdotally, as a pretty casual player, that was my experience. I found with Fromsoft games, they became far more enjoyable when you look at them as teachers, and properly apply their lessons. I very much viewed them as brick walls that you ram into repeatedly at first. I did still find them enjoyable that way, as they weren't impossibly difficult by any means with that play style. But when you instead try to discern the lesson that is being taught to you, when you accept patience as a virtue, and take the responsibility of failure onto yourself, a new level of satisfaction becomes available to you. Satisfaction that comes from a place of continual effort, of gaining understanding and eventual mastery over what once seemed an insurmountable challenge. I felt this especially in two non-Soulsborne titles: Sekiro and DOOM Eternal. I was much worse at games in general when I first attempted those experiences. My first time through Sekiro, I remember how many of the fights seemed impossible. The centipede fight was absurd to me, initially. The amount of attacks had to be bullshit, surely. But then you learn the power of your parry, the timing of the attacks, and he becomes a trivial fight. And what you learn from that fight is applicable to almost every fight. If you can learn to parry, then you can come to master the game. And when you finish it, you look back on every fight that seemed impossible, and realize at every single step, the puzzle was solved, and the mechanics understood. And you know you understand the game because it wouldn't have let you complete it otherwise. In DOOM Eternal, it was a similar experience. I found myself stuck at Taras Nabad on Ultra-Violence. I just couldn't seem to grasp the mechanics. So I restarted it on Nightmare a couple months later, really learned the game, and now the area that I couldn't dream of passing has become nearly forgettable, an enjoyably difficult but ultimately trivial room that I've basically never died on since truly learning the game. Going from being stuck on that room, to having a level of mastery that leaves even the most insane encounters completely comprehensible and beyond doable is a level of satisfaction very few games can say they offer the player. When a Spirit randomly enters a Tyrant, and you don't even flinch because the game has taught you, held you accountable, and prepared you to take on this threat, you know you've played something dedicated to the player, to actually teaching them something, to making them think about and overcome what can seem to be a genuinely impossible encounter. The puzzle comes together for you in its entirety. You understand how each mechanic feeds into the next, how to maximize your damage, how to aim, how to move, how to switch weapons. This only exists because the game holds you accountable. This allows the player to enter even a master level fully confident. They are ready to be presented with absurd challenges, and they know exactly how to respond. The only question is can you execute the lessons you've learned in the heat of a boss fight? In other words, under the most pressure the game can offer, can you still go tit for tat, answer its questions, and demonstrate your skill? This is what makes all of these games so amazing. When you accept the experience and put in the effort to learn, they can inhabit much the same role as things like sudoku and chess. Though at a much higher speed, and for a more modern generation. They are very much puzzle boxes, constructed to subtly walk you through them, to give you the means to learn and grow, to keep you on the edge of your competency, and then reward you for extending past it. They are, I think, what games fundamentally should be; a puzzle to solve, and then to master.

I haven't seen his stream live in a long long time but Ray has a hard no back seating rule which is fine. However he'll constantly complain and refuse to change. It's Ray he'll live and die by stubbornness.

Ray reminds me of me, where if I'm doing something wrong and someone acts all high and mighty and gets annoying about it, I'll keep doing it wrong on purpose just as an FU Unfortunately, "acting high and mighty and annoying" is the definition of Twitch chat

Sometimes he will literally ask chat a question and people will scream backseating, other times someone will not know anything about a game and give a random suggestion and people will scream backseating. People take backseating way too seriously in that chat imo, it's seriously not that big a deal. What else are people supposed to talk about in chat if not the game? If you're watching him repeat the same thing over and over again, am I supposed to go "you got it next time chief" in chat every time he dies?

Wish he'd play 3 or bloodborne they improved a lot of the stuff people complain about in later games but oh well

It's at about that same point that I decided to put his playthrough on hold and buy it. I never played or seen dark souls before he played. I played it a ton during breaks in my last year of school, then played a ton of Dark Souls 3. Love the games, but I understand it's nuances don't make everyone enjoy it.

@@Mrholysymbol He would hate Bloodborne, I think, too much movement and dodging. DS3 tho is very good, and nowhere near as BS as DS1. If he got any single amount of enjoyment from DS1, he would enjoy DS3 so much more.

Yea its called bloodborne and dark souls 3. Extremely fun combat and mechanics but also easy enough for beginners to get into it. I had never played these games before and bloodborne led me to ds3.

Even FromSoft has said it's the worst boss they've ever made and that it was a mistake.

I know Ray will probably never get into the other games, but oh how I wish. Respect his decision anyways. It was brutal in the beginning with me as well. I'm playing it for the third time, first time on PC anyways, and definitely enjoying it a lot more on this playthrough.

@@J3009 in the context of him streaming, yeah he most likely would not have died 500 times unless he was just struggling, but in general, like in the context of the whole playthrough, chances are hes gonna get got way more than 500 times, lol

I played DS2 first. Last Giant took me like 40+ attempts my first time. After going a little farther into the game I restarted and beat him my first try.

Just because the game sucks, if anything. Otherwise it's ridiculously easy for a DS game.

I feel the same way. I HATE the newer Mario games because of the way they play, while I’ll play any generic FPS game that lands in my lap and have the time of my life. It’s all about having fun.

Ok, this is coming from a person who has only played 1,2 and a bit of Sekiro so I see the issues as Demon Souls: Completely unexplained gameplay mechanics (world tendency, the fact that you supposed to play the worlds like 1-1 then 2-1 not 1-1 to 1-2 like you would logically think) and anything doing with the Thief’s Ring or magic Dark Souls: Slow movement speed, magic is still op, can only teleport from bonfire to bonfire like halfway through the game Dark Souls 2: Huge nerf to magic, way to many bosses and certain bosses are just reskins of bosses from previous games, and lifegem spam. Dark Souls 3: No idea haven’t played it Bloodborne: No idea haven’t played it Sekiro: stuck with the same weapon throughout the entire game. Feel free to correct me if you think anything different.
