@@tohtoriTurvotus I know the guy that does the acting, and thanks for pointing it out, but I was wondering of the "kind" of narrating style he does. If it has a name.
@@ElMiron_ I would describe it "deep and foreboding". I think voice actors just have their own unique styles, so I don't know if it has any particular name. Or maybe you mean the narrative point of view? That should be third-person narrative, I think.
@@tohtoriTurvotus - What I'd really love to know is what filter they're running his voice through . Wayne has a great voice , but when you compare his voice in Darkest Dungeon to the readings he does on his RU-vid channel , it's clear there's something extra they've done for his voice in DD .
I like how the Narrator can come off as extremely sarcastic sometimes *𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑎 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑎 𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒 "Wealth beyond measure, awarded to the brave and the foolhardy alike."
even with a pool of things to say, the things he say make me feel relieved whenever my people resist the temptation of insanity, and other times make me wince in sadness at the ones who couldn't either way very goos narrator 10/10
My boy Reynauld got that... Deaths door, another hit =bong=, another hit =Bong=, Resolve was tested, Valorous! Hit for a crit killing the first guy, hit again =bong= hit for another crit kill the last mob ending the encounter... i was so proud of my boy, and sad at the same time as he was the only one to walk out of the dungeon that day. a broken battered man emerged from the crypts and walked directly into the bar for a long night of drinking
@@Legohaiden a warrior, a true hero in the face of adversity! Though the rest of his friends died fighting... he made sure such an injury did not go unanswered.
Truly, this game would not be 1/3rd of what it is without its incredible sound design. I still remember getting struck by The Warrens' background noise when you're at pitch black
3:47 I love the fact that the Arbalest was on siren's side when the narrator said "Self preservation is paramount, at any cost!" It's almost like she knew the expedition was doomed and decided that joining the monsters was the only chance for her survival.
I bought this game because of the artwork and the narrator voice in the trailer. Now, 160h+ later, his voice still gives me the goosebumps. "Grievous injury, palpable fear" perfectly defines my feelings when my heroes get critted!
The Dota voice pack for him is glorious. Every failure is crushing and pitied but every success earns a backhanded complimented or is alluded to as ephemeral.
0:55 2:43 3:09 These quotes get me the most because the characters in the game are people, skilled, ferocious fighters but are human fighting monsters and abominations that shouldn't even be real.
That's what the devs wanted for the game. They said something along the lines of "Sure you may have gotten to the final boss on 1hp but how would your hero feel in that scenario?"
Lots of well-deserved praise for the narrator, but let's not forget to give credit to whoever wrote all the dialogue!! Incidentally, I have no clue who that was as the official website doesn't single out anybody as the writer. Perhaps it was the creative director himself???
"Grievous injury, palpable fear. As life ebbs, terrible vistas of emptiness reveal themselves." then "The blood pumps, the limbs obey! A death denied, for now." then "Mortality clarified in a singular strike! Now the true test begins, hold fast or expire." Reynauld's resolve is tested... ... ... ... STALWART: "I am armored in more than just steel, blasphemers!" "Many fall in the face of chaos, but not this one, not today." "Success so clearly in view, or is it merely a trick of the light?"
"The Abyss returns even the boldest gaze." Man how badass is this game. I honestly played it just for the unprecedented and unsurpassed narration, otherwise it's impossibly difficult and time consuming.
It is only now that I realize that "remember that overconfidence is a slow and insidikus killer" is a literal warning against the narrator HIMSELF, fanning the flames of your confidence and vanity whenever you get a crit.
2:49 I feel like this would be my best line if only the tone didnt change on the "in concentration" line. I feel like the last tone should have been a deep bass. "Death waits for the slightest lapse *in concentration* "
As a huge fan of lovecraft's work I absolutely love how the narrator really sells the delivery of his lines, hell,, they sound like they're straight from one of his stories themselves. Nice job putting a bunch of them together
I love when a enemy dies with poison or blight Great is a weapon that cuts on it's own Slowly Gently that is how a life is supposed to be taken The Slow Death - Unforseen, Unforgiving
I'm so glad i started playing this game without any spoilers and just being delighted by how the narrator adds to this and how it makes you fear death while also making you feel like a powerful hero but also reminds you that your mortality is a curse that you'll always be tied to, specially against bosses
A friend linked me this video, and I'm really grateful, not just because it's awexome, but specifically for the thrill I got starting at 0:30... Let's just say I really want to talk to whoever wrote & directed that dialogue, because I would swear the similarity between those lines (not only the words but the intonations too) are uncannily similar to the attack quotes of the Protoss Archon from Starcraft! Even if it was a total coincidence, I loved it & I'm interested in this game now, so thanks.
0:32 ANNIHILATE(D) 0:34 DESTROY(ED) 0:37 ERADICATE(D) 0:39 OBLITERATE(D) Bonus Round (not an Archon line but definitely the same flavor) (0:29 DECIMATED)
The line if they stun you "Ringing ears, blurred vision... the end approaches" really paints the picture about being stunned. just love it! Also I will never forget the first time my torch went out after camping: "and now darkness holds dominion... Black as death". just wow
Every quote gives me that boost of patience to keep playing the game, the game is very frustrating but it feels right to make progress through hellish situations.
Wouldn't it be cool to learn all of these phrases and just use them on daily basis instead of regular speech... Like, when somebody whines about not liking a party, you say "Those without stomach for this place must move on". Or, when meeting a Karen: "Towering. Fierce. Terrible. Nightmare made material". When you fuck up: "More dust… more ashes… more disappointment" When lights in the house go out: "And now… the darkness holds dominion - black as death". All of it, of course, said in the deepest voice you can muster.
Darkest Dungeon is really good at making you feel despair. Especially when you got 2 heroes at death's door, one of them being one of your oldest recruits
I love the triumph and malevolent glee in his voice when he says "Eradicated !". The narrator is such a key part of what makes Darkest Dungeon feel so special.
