I prefer the Alpha Omega (better fits my playing style) - warmer grit. The X Ultra is more what I associate with "the Darkglass sound", but I think when you blended your recording of the X Ultra in with the band, this was one of the best examples I've heard! In most cases, I find "the Darkglass sound" to be too "pokey" or harsh sounding (on its own), but in this particular mix, it sat well, and gave the bass some prominence. Great video!
Thanks for watching! I think it’s kinda easy to go overboard with the drive/settings on the X ultra, because you have SO much gain available on tap and the low comp keeps the low end consistent. Gotta be a bit careful there.
Caramba, los dos suenan muy bien. Depende del estilo y el tono, de eso se trata. Me encantó como suena el Microtube con el P-Bass. Thanks a lot for your demonstration.
Hi! Really liked the comparison of these two. Can you help me out, does alpha omega apply overdrive to the whole signal or not? I liked low gain settings of it a bit more, however I tend not to distort low frequencies and here X ultra is a winner. But it has way more distorted sound even with a knob on low. Can you achieve a similar sound on X ultra with "low gain" as on alpha omega or not? Will really appreciate the help.
Hi! The alpha omega distorts the whole frequency. You can add some clean, undistorted signal by using the blend knob. As far as I know, the X series will always have drive even at the lowest settings. I guess you could lower the input going into the X ultra using some other pedal to lower the amount of gain.
@@IvanBassist Seems like will go with X ultra then, maybe in terms of produced sound I like it a bit less but it gives more flexibility and still the sound is great, so I guess I will find ways around. Thank you for the help
@@IvanBassist I saw a review and it looks way more complicated and expensive. I guess I will use a pedal as a preamp + some parts of the song with just one preset
@@IvanBassist I have almost the same question. I own alpha omega ultra, however, I am still thinking about microtubes X ultra for better low clean fundamental frequencies. Alpha omega distorts the whole specter of frequencies, even the low ones. It is annoying me a little bit. And the microtubes allows you to have clean compressed low frequencies. I have not compared them face to face, so I do not know which one is better. Mostly I use AO pedal for low gain sounds, and in this case I think the microtubes would be too harsh for this type of sound. Am I right? Is the possibility to keep the low frequencies clean so important in the mix or AO will have almost the same clean undistorted low signal with low gain and blend knob on a half way?
The X Ultra had a much dirtier sound. As compared, I prefer the AO, bit would like to hear that same loop with boosted mids and maybe some other eq adjustments on the XU.
There are sooo many variables, so I had to keep it somewhat simple for the loop, but here’s the demo of the XU where I go through different settings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JWrodCoK8fI.html
Seems like the X Ultra has a lot of the AO sounds in it, you just have to find them using the filters and stuff. Also surprised how mild the AO sounds here. It comes across almost clean compared to the X.
I own the B7K already which is more like the Alpha Omega, I guess. So the X Ultra could be the perfect match for "high gain distortion" on bass :) Which is better? Completely depends on what sound you want and the gear (bass, amp, cabs, pedals...) you already own. both pedals are great - just they are so different in their approach to distortion
Gracias!
Darkglass X Ultra. I love that pedal more and more. It is like a swiss knife for metal bass. But choosing between X Ultra and YYZ I prefer last one, but just cuz I don't need a million voices. I need only one, MY OWN UNIQUE sound))
@@IvanBassist to be honest I've never tried any pedal myself. My opinion based on different reviews only. And no, I know nothing about 2112. Didn't even heard about it
@@IvanBassist Basically one more vintage sounding and one very modern. Both should have distortion, drive and all the usual knobs that all preamps have. :)
Great choice! I’m not sure If you’ve watched this already, but I also did a full demo on the X Ultra: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JWrodCoK8fI.html
