Darktide Lore - Genestealers and Grendyl are Hiding in Plain Sight 

In that same line if there's a loose cannon vet in the team, they'll mention a broodlord too. This video was kind of a part 2 to my "Are Tyranids Coming to Darktide" vid, that one has a LOT more evidence that genestealers are coming!

Absolutely, I don't think it'll be a full-on devouring of the planet. Though there have been some interesting lines by a couple psykers about "shadows" or "something dark" coming. And the Savant psyker beginning to have weird dreams about Zola is also interesting.... If these lines are anything, I think it's supposed to help telegraph the genestealer cult.

Genestealers having something that could threaten our Psykers could be interesting.

@@LongClawzHidden Genestealers don't have such a shadow, because they actually rely on warp powers to act as a beacon to the coming Hive Fleet. They do have some pretty cool units though (my favorite being the three-armed gunslingers).

@@Jo.Plays.Games. im fairly sure thats more in reference to the fact there's a whole chaos cult doing weird bullcrap since we've fought daemons, if its not stealers then its most likely some more horrific daemons maybe even plague bearers. otherwise if it were the shadow in the warp the psykers would be insane.... more so than they are already

@@HolyApplebuttera keleromorph would be an awesome assassination target. Those liberator autocannons can snipe you or blow up a tank with explosives stolen from atomas factories

If they implemented genestealers I could only imagine how god damn terrifying a real one popping up would be, since we'd probably mostly be dealing with the cultists and hybrids

There's a lot of weird stuff with Zola. I actually break down what might be going on with her in the last video. That line I'm pretty sure is the savant psyker that has a dream where there were two Zolas and one killed the other. But there's also so many voice lines in this game, I wouldn't be surprised if the Seer has one too.

She was a criminal and used to play against the Imperium on Atoma, now she's an agent of it, it's made somewhat clear in the assassination mission taking place in the enforcer station. She directly tells that she spend time in the cells while working for the water cartel. Maybe this is a reference to that.

​@captainburnos2828 while that could be an explanation, each type of psyker has something to say about Zola. Most of the time it's a reference to her feeling "off", mention of that dream, or an unknown shadow. There's some speculation she's a genestealer and doesn't even know it since there is a whole generation of genestealers unaware of their genetics and heritage and who work towards the cult's goals. And while I initially had the thought, "why not let nurgle take over, then? Even on a subconscious level? Well, Tyranids hate Nurgle because it infects and corrupts the biomass they're trying to harvest. It's in the hive's interest to remove nurgle from Atoma.

Interrogators are basicly Inquisitors in training. While Rannick wouldn't inherit Grendyls title, it makes total sense for him to be elevated to full inquisitor for getting the work done when his mentor fell in the line of duty. Being chosen to be an Interrogator means Rannick is trusted with alot of power - and if he has Inquisitorial orders from his mentor, there would be few to object to him moving things around.

@@christophedlauer1443 Not basically, they are inquisitors in training. Or rather, they're the inquisitor's apprentice, anyway. And explicators are interrogators in training.

The Darktide refers to xenos/chaos/daemon/etc. Enemies of mankind who were fighting the Moebian Domain over the fringe worlds (in the „Fringe War”) It’s a catch all term, and it doesn’t mean the „Darktide” is in any way unified. Similarly how „Xenos” refers to the non-imperium non-chaos factions

I was just talking to my hubs today about how much I would *love* to see a techpriest class. I don't think it'll happen, but I have such a soft spot for Skitarii.

I would die to sick some servators on people, maybe one ability we can nab one of those void shield harnesses those captains like so much

Just my two cents but Perhaps as an unlockable class at lvl 30? A tech priest would be servitized if it weren’t loyal but it wouldn’t be fully out of the picture for a tech priest to support the rejects who are recruited as full warband members in the field. From my limited knowledge of the adeptus mechanicus they are a force to be reckoned with in the field.

@@Your_Resident_JawaNo, the Mechanicus will often just reclaim a tech priest's augmetics and then expel them. They won't be servitorized unless their crime were egregious.

That's totally fair. I sincerely believe in what I'm saying (though I could be wrong about the release date - that's by far my "hottest take"), but there's small part of me that doubts. Though I gotta say having hindsight on Vermintide, they telegraphed Be'lakor and Sienna's necromancy pretty blantantly, so....

And if you are right, you deserve a load of credit for following the clues - and even if you're not correct, that would make FatShark idiots missing out on a great opportunity. Life has taught me to hope for the best but expect the worst, hence the cynicism - however I do find everything you are saying very compelling!

The Inquisition and Imperium in general has the ability to mind-wipe people to make them forget certain days/weeks/etc. as required.

Glad you enjoy it! This game is so different from V1 or V2 in the way they're choosing to do the narrative. It really leaves a lot between the lines.

Dark eldar are far too lethal for our 4 convicts A squad of dark eldar could wipe an imperial platoon of soldiers.

​@@DakkaDakka12I mean, the stuff we already fight should be far too much for batches of 4 people to reliably take on to have it be the main way the imperium is dealing with Tertium. Deamonhosts,, demonic monsters like plague ogryns, beasts of Nurgle, as well as chaos guardsmen, and really just the sheer tides of poxwalkers you fight should all overrun groups of 4 people easily, if not from sheer brute force, then from the sickness they carry, as lore of Nurgle followers consistently says just being around them is enough to cause disease and death. What they're doing with Darktide is bending the lore to make a fun a CoOp game, so if they've already done that with Nurglings, the argument is now why shouldn't they add some more stuff into it that isn't lore accurate as they've already done?

I'm honestly 50/50 if Grendyl is alive or dead. Same with good/evil. That Beowulf connection is like a little itch that bugs me.

I would LOVE for them to give us more mysterious hints, but there's SO much lore to get into, especially for peeps that have never really been introduced to 40k before. I didn't realize until today that the assassin target will say "I go to the garden" when you kill them. That's a whole damn video right there!

Thanks! I'll do at least a short, it might end up being long though. It's hard to talk about the Shadow in the Warp in this specific context without doing some tiptoeing, because a lot of people take the depiction of the Shadow where it is a full psychic disruption with full stop on Warp travel and completely disrupting Psykers as gospel truth.

It could be, but since we know through Wyrmwood that there's (most likely) genestealer sightings in Tertium, it's hard to know for sure if the other hive is being set up for genestealer presence or something else. Only time, and Fatshark, can tell.

That's an interesting idea. I know a LOT of people would have a complete fit if there were an Adeptus Inquisitor, but honestly that angle could work.

I agree! Also, "Nightsider" can be heard very faintly in the cutscene with the barber introduces himself. It's muted almost like it's coming through a radio. I thought that was an interesting, but way too understated way to use a song that slaps that hard.

Those are definitely options! Personally, I think that they put a finer point on the fact that they now have tech for "enemies fighting enemies" and that they're "toying around with it for the future" makes it very likely that whatever is coming, it's not gonna play nice with the Grandfather.

It also depends on how we're supposed to "count" them. If you look at Atoma from the Mourningstar, you'll see several spires on the planet like Tertium has. I know Tertium is supposed to be the eventually mega city made up of other hive cities, but there's some spires that seem a bit far flung.

We'll just have to see! I'm not ready to say that they're never coming to the game. I can't imagine they'd specifically say they're excited to be playing with "enemies fighting enemies" for the future in an official dev blog just for it to mean nothing. A lot of what we've all uncovered over this short and fun span of time is still totally valid, it just isn't coming now!

The cicatrix is a much bigger disturbance in the warp than the 'nids shadow.

The Carnival district sounds like it has some things going on that Slaanesh would be into. I'm not saying I think there's any BIG hint it might be coming in the Traitor Curse, but it definitely sounds awfully...carnal in ways.

Grendyl goes through so many Interrogators that way.

So, I could be wrong, but I thiiiiiink they're chanting "FLIES FLIES FLIES." Also, if you happen to be in a quiet area (like say, Carnival Part 2 in the square at the beginning, trying to hear all the loud speaker announcements to see if there's any lore hints in them), you'll notice that before every horde, there's a sound of buzzing that grows into the roar.

Oh, THAT'S why her class was so important for future development!

Morrow's gotten around to a lot of parts of the galaxy to crack some alien skulls, if the voice lines are to be believed and not just tall tales about a long-lived war hero.

I really, really want to say yes, but the problem with me making content that says "This is totally the Shadow in the Warp" is that phenomenon spans such a huge range of what could happen when the Shadow is present in a sector. Many people take the "Psykers eyes will start bleeding and they'll basically die if the Shadow is present for them" as 100% gospel truth, when really there's plenty of examples throughout 40k of the Shadow being nuisance more than an outright psychic disruption that makes Warp travel impossible. Hell, depending on what interpretation of translating the Warp you subscribe to, the jump we see the Mourningstar make in the pre-game cinematic might be indicative that there's a force present that made their translation particularly dangerous/almost fail. Or that might have been just another Tuesday. It just all depends on what specific depiction of things in the setting people choose to latch onto.

It's my understanding that she's the shipmistress, Brahms, a Rogue Trader who's part of Grendyl's retinue. It's implied in certain voice lines that they've worked together a very long time and that Grendyl values her council highly. If you have a screenshot that labels her as Grendyl, I would seriously love to see that because it would change a lot! Lmk and I'll shoot you my email!

Naw, you're not a liar at all. There's a few things that have been inconsistent, and it's hard to know if it's intentional or just an accidental slip-up in the writing/delivery. One that gnaws at me that I'm 99% sure is simply a mistake in line delivery is Vox 1, when Wyrmwood says she's arrived to "Tertium Prime." I'm pretty sure it's that she accidentally smashed "Tertium" and "Atoma Prime" together, but I was giving it the side eye for a long while trying to decide if it was anything....

I'm so desperate to see a full on daemonic incursion of Nurgle. Like, "DON'T THEY LOOK DESPERATE, BROTHA" level of desperate.

Never how it worked in VT, nor how it will work in Darktide. Fatshark previously mixed factions. (Beastmen, Norsca and Skaven) but Genestealers would never work with Chaos. Hence, people I assume Sienna's career is the key in that they will attack each other.

I take it you never heard about 'Platinum Mode' where it would actually mix enemy units to fight you. Meaning yes, you could end up fighitng Geth Primes alongside Husks and Collecters.
