Here's the legendary and widely treasured; U.S. Milcom's former Lincoln Village, in the beautiful, quaint, science city of Darmstadt, Germany - as of Jan. 3, 2020. Well, at least what's left of the former U.S.' Lincoln Village! Lincoln Village deactivated during September 2008.

Gerda Lynn Wombacher Pate & Otis Cue Pate are Frankfurt American High School Alumni Eagles. F.A.H.S. was located in Frankfurt, Germany, and we both graduated with the Class of 1985. F.A.H.S., which was anchored on the Abrams Building Compound, closed during the Summer of 1995.
Lynn is an U.S. Air-force Veteran. She served her country bravely and faithfully from 1986 -1990. She also received an honorable discharge and then promptly moved back to Germany to be with her family, as her Mom, Gerda, who was German/Prussian (passed September 2019) - lived in Darmstadt, Germany with Lynn's brother Laurence Wombacher, and her U.S. military retired Father, James Wombacher (passed December 2014), who was from North America, and was born in Fresno, California.

BTW, out of all the amenities that the acclaimed Lincoln Village provided, other than housing, as mentioned and itemized in the video, it also had a High School from 1994-95, up until 2008. I lived in the bldg 4408 all the way in the back by the road up to cfk. Those attachments to the backs of the building were added before they shut down sometime between 2004 - 2007. They housed an additional bathroom for the master bedroom as well as a washer and dryer en suite. I was just a military brat but happened to spend all of high school and the last half of middle school in Darmstadt/Wiesbaden. Thanks for sharing and making this video almost brings tears to my eyes to see the place I called home during my formative years after having been gone for over a decade.

Thank you very much for making this video. My father was stationed on CFK for about three years in the mid to late 70s. We lived at Lincoln Village at building 4440 in stairwell B apartment 3. I attended elementary school from kindergarten through 2nd grade at the old location on CFK. When I was stationed at K-town, I visited Darmstadt, parked in front of my old home, and made a trip the the PX on CFK. Unfortunately, I no longer have any of those photos. However, this video brought back some good memories.

I lived in Lincoln Village from 1994-2000 until my dad chose Arizona for retirement 😒. I wish we had stayed longer. I had soooo much fun living there. I remember playing in the attics all the time, going over to the park with friends, tripping down a flight of stairs in the building and fracturing my ankle 😂 , the massive candy truck that used to come with my favorite sour belts....great times. Not to mention the people and the food were amazing. Best time of my life.

Go Eagles! FHS...1981-1984 ( Class of 1985) old man retired and had to go back CONUS. Used to live building behind the DYA. Great memories and fun times!

I lived in Germany from 1983-1986. My children were born there. I used to shop at the PX... and had friends at Lincoln Village.

Kelley Barracks 84 to 87 in the 547th , stayed in a beautiful apartment in Goddelau never took housing, these places were lousy with drug use and drama from dependents, our battalion commanders son was actually a dealer and sent back to the states but I cant repeat that because it officially never happened 😜

I rembember driving past Lincoln Village as a kid in the 70s and early 80s many times when visiting Grandma and Dad didn't want to take the autobahn. I vaguely knew that Americans were living there and always thought that with its parklike setting, big trees and all it must be a perfect place to live. At least a few of the original buildings were retained, if only without the characterstic four digit numbers and the bright yellowish paint with brown trim

Thanks for that. We lived there when I was in the 2nd grade til the 6th grade we got there in 1988 and left in 1992. I have some good memories from there. I remember riding my bike over that bridge into the woods and just explore. And the party's my parents use to throw. Good memories of me and my sister. It kinda sucks to see most of it gone but good to see all the additional housing the space it has. I remember the building being so spread apart. I've never seen another apartment complex like it. But then again it wasn't so much of a complex. More of than of military housing. Thanks

We lived in Lincoln Siedlung from the Spring of 1963 until 4 July 1966 when we rotated back Stateside. Lots of good memories of Lincoln, Darmstadt and Frankfurt, where I went to High School. Happy times.

Great video, lived in Pfungstadt, did work for a while in the base across from this housing area, most of my stay I worked at V Corps, the FTK-Milcom building where the play house was also located, and later was moved to Mainz-Kastel. In 1994 received my RIF notice, and shortly there after Frankfurt Abrams closed and the Terrace Club where I had my last office. Worked in Darmstadt with a German company till 98 before leaving. Was back in 2016, through Darmstadt and much of the housing area was still as it was when open.

Thank you for this video, I grew up in Heidelberg where the headquarters used to be, moved to Darmstadt and lived very close to Lincoln Village from 1992-1995, all my friends lived there, it was very nice meeting up and barbecuing together, there used to be many areas for it. It makes me sad seeing most of the buildings are gone. I just watched a Video about Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne and wondered how abandoned it looked, like a ghost City. My best wishes to you!

My family and I, the "Shinkles", lived in 4439 B-6 from 1976 - 1984. 4439 was one of the original 3 corner buildings now torn down. They differed from the others in that these did not have balconies. They had nice basement rooms with windows, power, etc. (called "maid's rooms" and there was a kitchen/bathroom as well storage rooms). I built a HO scale train layout in ours, it became my "hobby room". 40 years later...wow.

I was probably there the same time you were! I had Mr. Bledsoe (not sure of spelling) for my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Singleton for 5th grade and Mrs. Conners for the 6th grade in the early 80's. Very sad to see these bases closed and being torn down.

I had Mrs. Conners for 6th grade, too! I think that was '79 or '80. I had Mrs. Miller for fifth grade and she read The Hobbit to us! Mr. Knudsen was my 7th grade English teacher, if I remember correctly. He had a website somewhere where he shared a ton of pictures from his days at the elementary/junior high.

OMG! I was there the same time - 1979-1982! My brother had Mr. Bledsoe and Mrs. Singleton too. My friend had Mrs. Conners for 6th grade. I had Mr. Anthony! I had Mr. Knudson in 7th grade, too! Mr. Plattenburg was the principal. My mom worked in the school library. I don't know if she remembers me, but Gerda was a friend of mine!

It is hard to believe more of the old buildings could not have been remodeled. They were typical German construction, built like bunkers. Even the barracks could have been repurposed for things like student housing.

It was the original plan to remodel all the old buildings, but most of them were in terrible states. I live in one of the remaining buildings as i written this in this very moment and there are a lot of heavy problems. Old pipes in the ground bringing bad water, walls and windows not remaining tight, bringing the cold winter winds in, how matter how often its get repaired. I'm afraid these old buildings are bottomless pits and will disappear and renewed from the ground as well, when are the other new building are complete.

@@MelliGumba those old buildings where built like bunkers, in the typical German fashion. One only has to look around darmstadt tself to see how the old German housing stock has been updated. My in-laws apartment building was built in 1956. In later years, the building was given a new coat of Putz and new plastic windows. It looks virtually new from the outside. The "bones" of those buildings were good. They certainly were worthy of remodeling.

We live there for 10 years from 1992-2002, My son went to preschool, kindergarten, elementary and middle school all within the same housing area. Thanks for the video. Note those apartments weren’t for free!! Check your old LES’s. Look for BAQ (-)

The original apartments were awesome I’m pretty sure there’s no concern with Asbestos since they were built in the 1930s they were very comfortable apartments not sure why they would tear them down!?

joebonsaipoland They don’t tear it all down but try to preserve and renovate what they can. The development company actually praises the „generous American-style floor plans“ of the existing buildings, which make the apartments „ideal for families.“ www.lincoln-siedlung.de/lincoln-siedlung/baufelder
