Darmstadt is a city in southwest Germany. With its four universities it is famous for sciences and popular with students, and it has got nice places like the Ludwigshöhe, Mathildenhöhe or the Großer Woog, a lake in the city centre. The only strange thing about it: its name. Darmstadt literally means Bowel City. How could that happen? What is the history of that name?
