Labour MP Darren Jones held the former head of Ofwat's, the water regulator, feet to the fire over the organisations decisions which allowed the likes of Thames Water to run up debts of £14 billion. Darren asked Cathryn Ross if she would apologise for the mistakes made....she said no.

Parliament should make it illegal for any civil servant or MP who's on a regulatory agency to later work for any firm or corporation they were tasked in regulating. Nobody in their right mind should believe a word she's saying.

I like the theory but I don't think it could work. For example, what if they were to get a job with a company that supplies to, or contracts with, said 'firm or corporation'? Or what if the company changes it's name? Basically, we have to rely on our 'Dear Leaders' acting in good faith!

If I didn't know better, I'd think she was actively making the case that these companies should never have been privatised! She's said multiple times that despite everyone's 'best efforts', we couldn't get private utility firms to function properly. But then she turns around and say nationalisation is the 'nuclear option'. You can't write how ridiculous this is!

Just fine these companies into bankruptcy (100 times the price of treating 1 gallon of water for every gallon of raw sewage dumped seems fair) and then buy them for a single British pound. It's the shareholders that should take the financial hit.

Rather than nationalise the water companies, they will be asking for a partnership with government, which translates as: "you pay the debts and we will keep the profits for our shareholders." Under no circumstances should this be allowed to happen. If the government bails them out they should be made to pay it back before shareholders get anything.

We don't have regulation systems with teeth or muscle... this is by deliberate design... poachers turned gamekeepers with corporate salaries and bonuses. We need regulations which can include personal financial sanction and prison.

Reckless and irresponsible behaviour by Ross, in paying out dividends unsustainable funded purely by higher charges, while improvement of water distribution pipelines was neglected. This is why utilities are natural monopolies, requiring much stricter regulation to make sure that water users are not fleeced year on year. Until the leaks stop and raw sewage is cleaned up from rivers and coasts, the dividend declarations and 'bonus' payments also stop. The revolving door from Ofwat to water treatment companies has to close.

I work in another part of the water network-in the national infrastructure . I have loads of friends at Thames Water, they have all been given redundancy notices and are all asking me to put in a word for them at my organisation. These workers are in a panic. However, the government have just wiped out our budgets….yes wiped it out. We now have NO FUNDING for repairs after 2027.
