@robtyman4281
@robtyman4281 2 года назад
They will get away with it unfortunately, because the government doesn't seem to think this is important or worth tackling. They (the government) of the day very much set the agenda, and if they don't do anything then decisions by companies like P & O will go unpunished. As a result no new laws will be brought in to prevent this kind of thing from happening again in the future.....by another company. Most pointedly, the government don't actually care, because if they did this would never have happened in the first place because there would have been a law (or laws) in place to prevent such a thing occurring. Remember that the P & O workers don't have the EU to help them, which they would in instances like this. The irony is that alot of the workers probably voted for Brexit. Not all, but many likely did. This is a reminder that despite what some people say, we don't live in a democracy - we live in an autocracy. The latter is quite different, but we have shifted from the former since 2016. This shift was accelerated during 2020 and last year......very 'conveniently' while the public were for the most part, observing lockdowns.

I worked in the fleet dept. at Dover when they were P&O Stena Line. I was a temp. Got taken on permanently & tried my best to get the ships what they'd ordered. It was an absolute nightmare! The land based staff hated the ship based staff and i put in regular communication, for the first time, between ship & shore. I'd call the ships every Monday morning to find out what they needed and/or hadn't received. This included safety equipment even! They dumped the whole fleet onto me in the end. I was given the work of four people and that's why i quit. I was vilified in the office purely because I'd opened up comms between ship & shore. (Thanks Linda, you made my life hell just as you intended!) When i gave my week's notice, my boss, Terry Coneybere, said "I don't blame you Les!" then didn't speak to me for the five days until i left. The crews were great people and it felt good to get things moving for them. But P&O Stena were absolute bastards to work for. Dumping work on you whilst letting out & out ostracism go unpunished. I really wasn't surprised at what they did to the British crew. It fits their M.O. perfectly.
