I feel like this experience with bounty hunters made Maul somewhat respect them, which is why he spared the bounty hunters in his raid of Nal Hutta despite being a bloodthirsty monster most of the time.
Kolin Karkosh Well to be fair. Maul was likely never told that and probably didn't get real sith training. Because sidious likely gave him the crystal, because maul was just a tool that was expendable.
Blazecap 1213 Sidious even said it himself “Maul was a loss” Maul was Sith and staying alive after being close to fatally injured just proved his strength in the force.
I really, really enjoyed this comic miniseries, it's one of my favorites. The last shot, when Maul is standing at the top of this building is so beautiful. The action was also pretty neat and I liked the cameos. Maul is still a student wanting to kill the Jedi and I really do like this. I would really love to see a comic miniseries about Dooku or Grevious.
It's definitely one of the best moments in new canon, for me at least. Personally, this mini series is a must for understanding the full story of Maul, as we see how Sidious raised him to act on anger. And in those formative years, we can already see that vicious cycle of insaciable vengeance that will haunt him for the rest of his life. High quality storytelling!
Man, the overall tone of the Darth Maul comic had pretty emotionally DARK art and writing. His fight with the Padawan named Eldra was groundbreaking. 😮🛡👍🌠 Informative video!!
Star wars explained, could you make a video on the different colours of the different imperial officers uniforms. There are quite a few and some cross over.
Hey, I have an idea for a video. Could you explain what role droids have in the workforce in Star Wars? Why isn't the economy of the galaxy fully automated? We see some people in Star Wars still have 'jobs', and droids only seem to do part of the labor. Why is that? Is there a universal income in some parts of the galaxy or not? Is there a reason behind any of this, or is it just something that George Lucas didn't think of when he made Star Wars?
In Episode 2, Obi Wan says "If droids could think, none of us would be here." Droids can memorize things and run programs to perfection but they can't be truly creative.
Also, I assume the Republic eventually saw the negative outcome of having a fully-automated economy. Imagine the potential economic tragedy it would be if no one had a job. There's already a lot of homeless people in the Galaxy as it is. Besides, once the Droids took over the economy, they would be one tiny step away from taking over the entire Galaxy due to a "malfunction" in their database. Then they would surely have a "Great Meatbag Purge".
ArrowCat---I read the comments others said and I say a video on the roles of Droids might make a better idea and mentioning some things about that droid revolt might be interesting to see at some point.
It would depend upon the culture of planetary systems and how civilization had handled itself without the introduction of droids. Also how much do you think a droid costs? In the films, we see that massive corporations such as the Trade Federation and the Techno Union have entirely mechanized armies and factories. Metropolitan places such as Coruscant need droids in order to replace, construct, and maintain the massive skyscrapers with some sources saying that they are as big as a skyscraper. Coruscant is a major center of trade so it is only logical that much of its society depends on droids. However, other locations such as Naboo really don't have need of droids unless for diplomatic or translation purposes. They are a more passive people who dedicate their lifestyles to the celebration of art. Naboo is also located far away from the Core and the main trade planets. It is usually the upper echelons of society would demonstrate their wealth by purchasing droid butlers and servants and the like. For lower classes, it takes a lot more time and money for them to do so and they rarely, if ever, do. There is a universal income, which are Republic credits. However, the further away you travel from the Republic the less this is worth and other trade systems are used. I wouldn't be surprised that there are local currencies within planetary systems or sectors that would convert Republic credits into their version of currency much like how the various world currencies are based upon the American dollar. For the lesser advanced civilizations, barter systems would still be used.
Wintermute01001 I'm more referring to automated production through factory work and basic services, not creativity (like what C3P0, and automated factories in our world, do).
I doubt it. According to "Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know," Cad Bane was born c.73 BBY, which would make him about 40 in the Darth Maul comic and 51 in TCW.
Glad that you pointed out that we don't know anything about the Jedi padawan. We don't know her history, her master, or even how she was captured. We do know that she's a sassy little thing and surprisingly capable considered that their duel lasted for several pages. I think this story might've been better and more fulfilling if it delved into Eldra Kaitis and we got to learn more about her character and how it compared to Maul. We saw Maul's side of things but I would've liked to have gotten to know Eldra's. I would like to see more comics that depict her and provide her history. New characters are always fun to see but is a little disappointing that most aren't given their due credit. I would have to disagree with you there on how the comic turned out. I liked how it ended the way that it did and I would much rather they stay away from the whole crystal business. It's something that doesn't need to be changed. Cad Bane and Aurra Sing must really be old by the time of the Clone Wars since this comic is before TPM.
one of my favorite marvel series too! can't wait for Mace Windu's story. i wonder if theyll ever explain what happened to the little droid saboteur or if we can just assume he's dead.
There should be a comic where Sidious tortures Maul to the point where he bleeds his own Crystal. Where Maul is fighting droids and Sidious. Maul's teenage years. Other than that, I think there are but a handful of stories left to be said about him.
Also, I think Disney's new thing with their new Lightsaber crystals is dumb. The EU version is more reasonable. A Sith creates their own saber crystal and pours all of their hatred or wrath or fury or passion or whatever intense emotion, basically the Dark Side, into the crystal, which then powers the saber. I think having to kill a Jedi first and then "bleeding" the crystal (not that I'm complaining... they had it coming) is dumb and doesn't line up with most Sith whether they be from new canon or EU.
KAM1138a No understand that maul was intended to die in sidious plan. So it makes sense that he wouldn't invest too much in maul. Vader however is much more powerful and worth investing all that training.
How sure can we be of Sidious's plans? Who isn't expendable? Seems like a pretty minor "saving" on investment to loan him some lightsaber crystals. Also, since deception is inherent to the Sith way, how can we be too confident about anything Sidious tells anyone?
KAM1138a Well I think we can say sidious probably got a crystal from malocore. Sense at this time he isn't taking any risk. But I say it is safe to say maul was fully expendable at that time.
Star Wars explained, This is off topic but I was thinking of commander fordo he has jaig eyes on his helmet too. He was mentioned in one episode of a animated series and never again. Could you do an follow up to him?
Maul's saber would make sense that Sidous gave it to him because of his plan to take control of the senate and his plans to get Dooku to join and as well of his plans to convert Anakin to the dark side. Since Sidious had that master plan and clutch Order 66 up his sleeves in the beginning
Ian Reay I didn't like Leia's and Chewie's either... this one, Aphra's and Darth Vader/Star Wars are my favorite. Poe's it's OK I guess. Waiting for Mace and Phasma series!
Not as far as we know of in the current canon but in the past there were some extreme rebels especially in the early days. Roons Sewell could be considered somewhat brutal due to his high kill count of Imperials while on missions. Before joining with the Rebel Alliance, he worked as a lone agent against the Empire due to them killing his lover and fellow actress, Masla.
Probably, Maul wasn't required to bleed the crystal because he had no light inside him. On the other hand, Vader was a Jedi-turned-Sith who needed to prove that he was capable of snuffing out the light within him.
I feel like maul almost had a thing for her that would have been really cool to see maul actually have feelings for her and maybe have sidious kill her to prove a point to maul it could add to his overall anger and hatred
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NOT PUTTING "DARTH MAUL KILLS HIS FIRST JEDI" IN THE TITLE. Its infuriating having something that im looking forward to reading be spoiled just because I read a video title.
I would have loved to see Maul take the Crystal and say something awesome like "now I am a true sith". It seemed pretty contradictory to the "Sith lore" the new Vader comics just established. I really thought that would be the climax of the series was Maul bleeding her crystal. I suppose maybe Sidious never told him about that part of Sith training?
Michael Stankowski yeah, it's very likely he was never told. He was probably just given a crystal. Thus making us believe that Maul was never supposed to be a permanent apprentice, but a weapon, a tool to be used and discarded.
Show Jim bleeding the Crystal would bem cooler, but I think they want to show this process first in the Vader's comic. The thing that I like more about It is that he didn't tried to turn her, Just killed her. I'm kinda tired of siths taking anyone they find as apprentices, haha
I think an explanation for Maul's red blade is that Palpatine never meant for Maul to be a true Sith lord. He was just a tool while Palpatine waited for a truly fitting apprentice.
Wintermute01001 Knowing Palpatine and the depth and complexity of his deceptions Maul very well could have simply been a long term scheme to kill Mother Talzin. He knew if his plans if galactic domination came to fruition she would be one of the few remaining threats to him and choosing Maul as his first apprentice gave him an "in" with her. Just throwing it out there.
No Darth Maul was trained as a true sith his whole life.. and he was planned to play a big role in the clone wars before his defeat. This whole corrupting jedi crystals and bleeding them is nonsense..
I don't believe Sidious considered Maul to be a true Sith and that's why he never did the Sith Lightsaber ritual with him. Maul was meant to be an assassin that he could maneuver in the shadows. Maul while being very powerful did not represent what the true Sith of that time.
Sandro Sliske i mean if you think about it Palpatine was always more of the type to bend the rules to get what he wanted. He never really took the rule of two so seriously as he actively looked for replacements for his current apprentices just to get him closer to his goal. At one point he considered replacing Vader with a group of cyborgs which Vader than destroyed but still.
Do I need to make my own Star Wars channel or something?? An uncountable amount of leaks and info for the Han Solo movie have come out over the past few weeks and NO ONE has covered it yet. Chewbacca's freaking wife or parents have just been revealed!!! Why the hell is no one covering this HUGE info???
Once again the jedi did nothing. What kind of Master would leave his padawan in this situation. Why didn't the jedi suspected the return of the sith prior the fantom menace since one of their own was killed with a lightsaber. Otherwise it was fun.
Read Legends-based books, it is clearly stated in several of them, that crystals can be produced via 'forges' and that way it can be red or other colored crystals as well...just to name a pair: Darth Maul Shadow Hunter and Shadow of the Empire!
I thought it was weak. Vaders issue one gave us WAY more story than Maul's 5 issues. Sons of Datamir is a great maul comic. Screaming Citadel was a great 5 issue crossover. But this was weak!!
Screaming Citadel sucks, they could make the story much more interesting and develop new characters if Han, Leia and......this one character didn't showed up
Traj Agreed. Screaming Citadel had quite some potential in its first 3 chapters. But its last chapters was disastrous (honestly, I just read it for Aphra, and her characterization there was not really good either). Not to mention the ending, which makes quite no sense to happen between ep 4 and 5. While for Maul, it was WAY far better than Citadel IMO. Eldra's portrayal was nice and reminded me a lot of Ahsoka.
Screaming Citadel was only four issues, and it was just ok imo. I loved this Maul storyline as it gave him even more depth as a character and was overall just a very well executed story
