Hello everyone, I just want to remind you that I made this video to show how much more impactful a scene can be with music and yes it's true that it doesn't fit reva's character and it's not even her music, but it's just an example !
Yes mate it was a brilliant watch You made some great decisions I reckon you do more of these, it may convince the heads to utilise music more It's so popular because you hit something that resonates with all of us out here wanting SW to succeed Music is the force in this case Good job man 👨 👏 👍
T've been saying this from episode 1 of this series ... the main thing they are getting wrong with this show is the poor scoring ... Darth Vader without epic music, is just a guy in a black suit .... if they only used the music and sound, in this series, in much more effective way, the legion of fans would be much happier, as the final product would be WAY BETTER ... George Lucas always knew how effective an epic soundtrack is ... using dramatic sound in a space opera is a basic requirement for EVERY STAR WARS SHOW... I am saying this for the 100+ time, introducing Darth Vader, without the Imperial March, was completely ignorant and stupid from the producers of this series ... Darth Vader without the imperial March is not Darth Vader we all know and fear ... thank you for proving how impactful music is ... great example!
Why not tho? It's an Order 66 moment that came full circle, and is the defining event in Reva's life - why not use that music? If the scene were edited with this score in mind, and Reva's writing was better throughout the season, then this could've been one of the saddest scenes in Star Wars.
@@plasticflamingo1435 this music would just seem a bit too intense for a scene that is emotional, but also meant to simultaneously display that Vader isn’t at all challenged by her
@@RealParadoxed Well i think it does. Also they used duel of fates in the trailer so why couldn't they use it here? It was still about Anakins betrayal and how Reva was affected by that betrayal, and in the end Vader/Anakin won. So i don't think its that out of place.
@@mattchandler2679 Because its not even about the product anymore. It is about making something original, even if it isn't good, and getting on their resume that they composed something for Star Wars.
@@mattchandler2679 again, it is out of place; Anakin dark deed is about him doing evil shit and beginning to become Vader; it doesn’t fit for the action with Reva, the fight itself lacks the scale and scope required for a score with soo much opera and choir. Adding cool music to a fight scene can sound cool but music placement and composure is much more than that
@@user-mj9ec8jv1b ok but they used anakins dark deeds in fallen order when Vader was in fortress inquisitorious and it had nothing to do with anakins fall to the dark side, but it sounded cool af.
Vader's footwork is insane, reminding us why he's the best villain in cinematic history. I love how she fought a losing battle instead of getting the Mary Sue treatment.
I love this scene because it shows how powerful Vader is and how weak the inquisitors are…he wasn’t even trying and that’s what I love about it. He didn’t need to try against her.
Dang that flashback was so powerful. It shows the evil behind the mask more and how truly terrifying Anakin was and how hard he fell. The Star Wars movies/shows aren’t perfect but the concepts in them are awesome
Agreed. I think a lot of popular media isn’t no where near perfection, but the feelings and emotions that it brings out and resonates with us are far more important and leave much more of an impact than hyper focusing on what makes something worse or not as good as it could have been.
@@castielffboi honestly this is why I go into anything Star Wars with zero expectations or even just skip some of the shows etc When it's on point, it's incredible! (& when it's poor I just try to move on)
@@SSJPENGUIN This is my general opinion too, I've liked all the shows so far as while Boba Fett and Rebels had their issues, a lot of it can be relatively overlooked or head-canoned away. The only ones that have genuinely annoyed and disappointed me are the sequel movies, simply due to the atrocious amounts of bad writing and the huge missed potential
It was very intense. Surprisingly intense. IMO, the only thing that would have made it better would be if she HADN'T known that Vader was Anakin and this showed her he was. With it being some other reason she wanted to kill Vader.
That’s one of my biggest complaints of the Star Wars shows in general is how they just refuse to use any of the old scores despite having the rights, it would help so many scenes, even Jedi fallen order a game was not afraid to just use the original and prequel score for certain scenes
@@mattt9278 old music writer are much more sophisticated and elaborated, this is because the classic discipline that was still taught to the foot and letter, John Williams, which he had a very big influence in this discipline, and all the classic SW films was written in this kind of music, so showing the classic characters that we known for so long years with new music is a bit off
@@mattt9278 the way to fix it without being too off, is sample John Williams music, and adding variation or modification, so it gives a fresh and new things without stripping it all
I was disappointed with the first episode's rewind of the Prequel trilogy and the lack of use of the prequel soundtrack. Instead it was some generic sci-fi music. Someone did a retrospective of the prequel trilogy some years ago with the og soundtrack on RU-vid and I was hoping for something like that.
Hayden Christensen has really came into his own as Darth Vader. It's great that he had a chance to fully immerse himself in the role. He is now nearly as iconic as David Prowse, in my opinion.
I love Hayden, but nobody can walk, turn, gesture with the tiniest nuances as David Prowse. David Prowse, aka Darth Vader always gave the slightest gesture of good. He stopped Bobba Fett from killing Chewbacca, he did not kill Princess Leia, he could destroyed C3PO, in Empire after Luke lost his hand and was willing to fall to his death you could see Vader's extended hand drop with disappointment. In Return of the Jedi, it was even more obvious through his body language. The last scene when the Emperor was blasting Luke, Vader's back and forth looking and his son and the evil Palpatine was brilliant. Luke was right there was still good in his father.
This video finally revealed to me why I always felt something was missing from this show. The music. To me this was supposed to be the show about Obi-Wan confronting his demons and well demon he didnt mean to create and coming to peace with it and becoming more attuned with the force. Using some music from the prequels would help set the mood of Obi-Wan still reeling from the fall of the Republic and the Jedi
He adapted so much... from episode 3 where his agility dominated, his suit now restricts him. But he learned to be far more efficient with every movement, none is wasted, each has purpose. And he does not need a lightsaber. It just adds to his already terrifying image.
@@OvernightCrew Hence, Obi-Wan saying you can't handle Vader alone. She didn't listen. She was too blinded by hate. Obi-Wan saw this and figured he could use her to achieve his escape and rescue of Leia.
Not only that, but he learned the lesson Obi-Wan was trying to impart. It took him getting dipped in a river of lava, but he learned. Without saying it as gently, he just taught Reva the same lesson.
By the time of New Hope I think his hate for Obi Wan had simmered down to a respect and appreciation for his old enemy, but his anger was still driving him during the fight.
This makes it so much more emotional than anything in the show so far. This embodies the trauma of having to survive order 66. All that pain lashing out in one fight with the man responsible for the most atrocious actions committed that night. And that ending with the flashbacks and that music just rips your heart out man. Maaan I wish they handled this show differently. There are so many missed opportunities.
I knew something was missing from this scene in the show. All the music so far in this episode felt like it was from a blockbuster action movie and not Star Wars. They haven’t even used the Imperial March yet for any Vader scenes which baffles me. They have a whole library of amazing Star Wars music to choose from and instead make it like any other cliche TV show
After coming here i finally realized all this!! I never even realized how much good music was missing...I dont even notice the music thats being played in the show so far?!
Score really does make or break a large portion of theming. Tron: Uprising is a great example of this. Another Disney property that absolutely hits it out of the park with Joseph Trapanese's stellar synthwave/orchestral music.
They are not using any music as Lucas gets something like 25-30 % of any revenue they make using his characters or music from the other films, but yeah I see no reason why they could'nt hire someone from outside to do this.
If this doesnt prove sound design is important idk what will. I also love how unlike disney, you decided to edit two separate scenes into one to make us feel two different emotions.
this was honestly the best interpretation of Vader for me. the most real side from like the comics for how terrifying he is and pointless it is to fight him. He doesn't even have to try. he just will keep walking straight at you.
I love how it shows Vaders strength, he is barely moving yet he is wearing and beating Reva out. It's an excellent scene to show how powerful vader really is and how he is simply playing with Reva.
When it cut from young Luke sleeping to Vader then to Anakin, with the beautiful swelling score of John Williams, I got goosebumps. Truly peak star wars right here!
Also kind of another underrated symbolism is that while Luke gets to sleep peacefully as a child, Reva can only look back on how horrifically scarred she was that night on the Jedi Temple.
With Obi-Wan current state Vader would have obliterate both of them anyway. Anakin vastly outerporms Obi-Wan in combat, it's not even close. The fact that Obi-Wan even thinks that they could do something in a direct confrontation is kind of absurd I really do hope they won't give us a "close" fight in the finale. 10 years under Palpatine tutelage, hunting jedis by the dozen and mastering the dark side against 10 years of mourning and avoiding the force.Please.
@@ShinTyles yeah man I know. I’m just pointing out something I thought was funny about the episode. He gave that whole speech about working together and then just dipped lol.
Vader is a beast. Not trying even a little, owning with only the force, and when he does use a blade, which he took from her instead of drawing his own, he has his back to her for most of it.
Wow, just wow. This proves that this show is just suffering from the sound design and the montage / cutting. The scenes in and of itself are great and just as iconic as many of the movie scenes. So sad that a billion dollar company somehow does not seem to be able to get the BASICS right. Chapeu to this edit, Wyzif.
As an editor myself it pains me to see how the editors did little to no research into how star wars movies are edited. The first movie was literally saved in the edit and seeing where it is now just makes me sad.
She did not deserve the hate she was getting. Had people just had patience they would’ve seen she was written in for a reason and Vader now looks better than ever
@@clearshade3560 why do you people act as if one episode's worth of good acting suddenly makes the other bad ones good too? She was really good in this episode, specifically this fight scene, but her acting in 1 and 2 are still awkward. And the writing for her character is still bad, like, this episode still proved that twice
@@Cund I only said she was amazing this episode. Never said anything about 1 or 2 Her awkward acting still didn't justify the backlash she got for it. As for her character, Reva kinda grew on me after a while
@@Cund I feel like the new context revealed in this episode justifies the awkwardness of the previous episodes now though, Reva is trying to make it seem like she's super evil so she can truly fit in with the Empire to achieve her ultimate goal but she's not actually "evil" as explained in the episode. Which is why she was louder and more violent than the others because she needed to maintain believability.
@@wyhauyeung I don't think that's fair. It isn't easy to try to evoke the feel of the music of the original composer while still doing your own work. The music of the sparring flashback in particular struck me as a wonderful callback to the sound of the prequels. It's a thankless job to try to live up to John Williams, and we should respect that. So far the best one can hope for is probably what we got in the Knights Of The Old Republic games, and video game music doesn't work the same way anyways.
She should’ve called him anakin or skywalker, she was dying the moment she decided to sneak up on Vader and it is revealed that he knows who she is and that she knows him as anakin skywalker , would have loved to see the absolute rage he would emit from being called by his former name
Yeah but I feel that would’ve instantly removed her chance of survival and the threat to Luke, which wouldn’t push the plot forward making it stagnant.
@@brontebell7748 if she goes to Luke to either try to kill him or bring him to Vader to what… redeem herself after trying to kill him…. What a horrible take and finale that would be, there’s no redemption after trying to kill vader… you just die
I mean, he did reveal that he knows who reva is, so it wouldnt be a surprise for him to hear her calling him anakin, since he knew that she knew who he was. It would've just been like obi wan or luke calling him anakin
Even though I haven’t been a huge fan of the character, gotta give probs to Moses Ingram for her acting in that scene. While Vader walked towards her, she totally sold becoming that frightened child once again. The editing of this video also goes a long way in making it more impactful.
I wasn't either, her backstory changed a lot for me though. A rogue dark-side user out for revenge against the sith responsible for killing her friends and mentors. Thats a great backstory. The only thing bothering me was how much the inquisitorium ignored/ allowed regarding her behaviour, which seemed out of place. If Vader knew of her intentions the whole time and just used her to go after Kenobi it makes sense.
I didnt say I didnt like her, I just wasnt the biggest fan. I didnt have a strong opinion either way as she was kind of just there as a plot device to progress the story without having any meaningful place in it. With her back story I think it makes the character much better.
@@bernhardlabus8511 when the grand inquisitor said she's no longer of use thats what sprung to mind, she whas driven to get close to vader and in order to do that she needed to be very good at doing the job vader wanted her to do. so he exploited that and when she whas exposed she was no longer usefull and therefore needed.
@@bernhardlabus8511 its seeming to me like he literally used her to draw out Kenobi which would explain why he kept her alive if she knew Vader was Anakin. Anakin / Vader understands emotions better than anyone else and her passion for her fallen "family"/ hatred for him was obviously palpable and it was manipulated in the same way Palps did to Ani to draw out Kenobi. Beautiful show imo beautiful. I love this MF SHOW man.
So Much Better!! I actually felt it this time. The music really makes the scene so much more heartbreaking and im really upset that it hasnt been present in the show.
For all of her initial bluster and rage, deep down Reva's still that frightened Padawan. Vader still had her in abject terror for ten years and melted her hatred away during their fight. The music here gives the sequence more emphasis and weight.
@@xenopath8069 regardless, this music strikes much more emotion than the bland scuffle music they decided to use. Oftentimes, especially in episodes 4 and 5, the generic antagonistic music is way too intense and plays for way too long in many of Reva's scenes. It seems like they realize how bland the visuals are, and try to overcompensate with prolonged ear diarrhea. It also doesn't help that occasionally they DO incorporate old themes. For instance, when Vader is walking towards the escape ship in this episode it hints at the Imperial March theme. All the other themes, now in direct contrast to the brilliance of Imperial March, sound like royalty free garbage. This bad contrast effect has now happened with the writing, directing, casting, acting, cinematography, choreography, screenplay, AND the scoring.
Music is one of those things that can really help carry a scene. I also enjoy how it’s edited to make Obi-Wan realize something is wrong during the fight to show that he realized the plan is failing badly.
Not really. Frankly the fan edit Scene 38 feels way more canon than this did. The movements and fighting styles are just too... rigid and showy. He moved nothing like that amazing Rouge One scene. The only thing they kept intact is the fact not a single person he fights could ever even manage to keep up with him. And Battle of Heros does not fit Reva at all...
Great edit! Especially her flashing back to Anakin's attack while she was helpless. One of the reactors I watch is a super fan and he complained that they weren't using the proper music so well done!
The amazing thing about Vader that I find is despite his slow movement speed, his reflexes are always fast and sharp and he only needs to give minimal movement for dodging and readjusting his stance. Also he gets around the place amazingly fast moving at best at a brisk walk. How does he do that?
@@metal_fusion fans wanting him to be canon doesn’t make it canon. Don’t get me wrong, Starkiller is fucking cool as fuck and I wish he was, but he’s not
Vader was toying with her the whole Time ,with all his experience I would’ve just walked away from her breaking her spirit saying you not worth the effort
Holy hell man. This could bring tears to your eyes. That music is on a whole different level of emotions. Especially the original scene that it's used for.
The cross edit felt so right. I realized how linear a lot of the shows have been in their storytelling and editing, and I think you improved this scene massively with that alone.
She amounted to little more than a nuisance. I think he somewhat admired her chutzpah and for that he spared her...not delivering a killing blow. Plus, he liked for her to be writhing in pain. Also, her hate is what fueled her attack on him. So he may have found her amusing in that sense.
The first 30 seconds sent chills down my spine, the music fit perfectly! The moment Vader caught the lightsaber and turned slowly towards Reva matched the scene so well, bravo!
I like the contrast between the softer moments where it focuses on the rebels and then when it goes back to more intense music it focuses on the fight between vader and reva. giving me old republic cinematic vibes
Wonder Woman's director who did WW 1984 needs to pay attention to this director. She knows what's what! This is how you present a protagonist and how you develop the heroic arc!
The music adds so much more depth. The film score did an amazing job to capture the raw emotion and weight of the old scenes now applied to the new show. Excellent stuff. Perfect fit
Wow I really like this version, intresting how sound design can change the feel of a scene. The original music fits much better tho just imo because to me it felt like a video game final boss type music, showing how power Vader is.
Yeah because this music was composed onto the scene after it was done. If they took this similar tune and re-composed it to fit, it’d be better. The generic boss type music doesn’t fit with all the other Star Wars media. Not when it’s legacy characters. The new music is horribly mastered in comparison and just lacks any nuance or variation.
and when Vader said that Kenobi was wise to use Reva against him that was the beginning of the end for her as well the Dark Lord of the Sith's use of his force skills saturated by the Dark Side was really that insane 😄
Vader gets points for: 1) Stopping an entire ship by himself 2) Completely overpowering her by just using Force Combat 3) Looking like he was about to Dooku her when he had both lightsabers back in his hands
This almost brought me to tears, music is such an important thing in Star Wars, I hate they ignored it this time with so important characters, can you upload one with the Love Pledge and the Arena, mostly when Vader slaughters the younglings? Good work!
The power of music and John Williams in particular! I think most Star Wars fans won't ever fully appreciate how much of how beloved the original films were thanks to the music (I'm not sure George Lucas himself even quite understands it, not because he overlooks it but because of how large that impact may have been). And it certainly elevated the prequels too. Great job doing the video! The music selections and editing were very well done! I like the scene as it was, but boy does this show the boost the right music can provide.
4:00 feel like Vader should have said “Did you really believe, I did not see *you* youngling.” It Feels more direct and bridges her story of hiding in the blood of other younglings, hoping Anakin and the Clones thought she was dead.
i think it makes it more, because the prequel music is very much for those destiny grand duels between super well trained jedi/sith. This one is Vader vs semi-strong inquisitor, so it should just have been a darker yet melodic tune(without the chorus) and with more instruments in the minor key.
@@sansonefabio8177 I like your point of view but for me it's more a focus on the power of vador in the fight, I also thought about it before creating the video !
@@wyzif dont get me wrong, i still prefer ur video than the original. great work! we would obvs both agree an original JW score for this scene would have made it perfect tho
Yeah, It's much better this version than the actual show. But we cannot forget that there will probably be a bigger and more important fight with knobi (at the final), so I expect that the music will be more powerful like this!
She actually does come back in the next episode and sacrifices herself to save Luke, or, whatever. Leaks that are now proven to be reliable have leaked that as well. Another day, another plot armor.
Her scream at the beginning of the fight with the music makes it feel way more impactful than how it was in the show. Only nit pick is i feel the music is a lil too loud but fuck it cus that shit slaps
This has brought tears to my eyes watching this. The music helps to convey so much more emotion into the scene of a show I have no love for. Great edit if only Disney were watching this kind of thing for ideas
I love how you adjusted the scene order here, makes the pacing much better. I didn't understand why the actual show had that weirdly long shot of Obi Wan's face at the end of this episode so I'm glad you broke it up.
Couldn’t agree more with this edit. I found the music in the show extremely underwhelming. Thanks for doing this. Great edits by the way, really keeps the tension.
This edit is awesome! Well done! To be honest if they had used this music in this scene I think it would have distracted too much-relying too much on the music. I think the way it was in the show conveyed the emotion perfectly. But I love that you made this and we get to see it this way thanks to you :)
