Beautiful snakes - I'm thinking of getting one myself. Already have an enclosure on its way to me that should suit a juvenile for a few years then build him something bigger out of plywood. Not telling any of my friend's either, I'll just let them in and wait till the notice the snake enclosure :)

I'm half way through watching: my albino darwin hates bright light - she buries her head under her body when the light is on, so I don't provide any light - just a bit of daylight through the blinds on my windows. Even a well dimmed tungsten filament lamp makes her do this.

When did you notice they go through their “growth spurts?” Or start growing into that pit bull head they’re known for? I’m curious. My boy is a Darwin/coastal mix and he’s 11mo(got him last month) and he’s TINY still

Amazing video , just asking for a tip , my albino Darwin carpet when I put her around my arm or neck she will wrap really tight , as she likes to climb and when I try take her off she goes super defensive any tips on how to deal with that and how to get her more used to that and feel a better more comfortable being handled ?

Other than semi regular handling some pythons may take longer to calm down than others, unfortunately there isn't a quick fix for this but I've found most snakes tend to settle down with age till then all you can do is handle her regularly and avoid fast movements incase she is startled easy. But you want handling sessions to be short and end on a good note for your snake so before they show signs of any stress or defensiveness I let them crawl back in the enclosure at their own pace so there's no stress or fear coming out or going back in and eventually they don't seem to fear being handled. Best of luck.

They get to 6-8ft average. But mostly 6ft

They can yes!! Especially if you’re is a mix with coastal is will be a tank of a snake if it’s a female and you feed it right. A lot of people “underfeed” in order to “stunt” growth of their snakes for space and breeding reasons. So you don’t often see how big these snakes AXTUALKY get and the average length is generally false because of that. Most carpet pythons can reach 6-8 feet. I’ve even seen Papuans get pretty big if fed right (or overfed) it’s just a matter of genetics and feeding. I also have a coastalxdarwin too tho! Mine is a male het snow

Is there a real difference between a darwin and a IJ?

Would you recommend these as beginner snakes?

i’m not a beginner but not a mid level either n i’m getting my first pretty soon. pretty tough animals once they grow up but as babies they are fragile n need spot on care just like anything else

As long as you can commit to it and you aren't afraid to catch a bite then go for it. Babies are defensive. They will grow out of it if you work with them. I'm on my 2nd carpet.

Absolutely. As long as you have space for its adult tank. And as long as you can take a bite if you get a baby because they can and will strike. Their bites do NOT hurt at all tho. And I’m not just saying that. Both of mine were assholes when I first got them would CONSTANTLY strike but they’re both puppy dogs now. They have tiny heads and teeth as babies so that’s the best time to work with them over getting an un socialized adult imo. They only take a few weeks to calm down generally

G'day mate, great video! I'm looking into getting a snake in QLD do you have any recommendations? I was wanting a Royal python but they are not native do we have something similar in aus?
@reptiplantworks2294
@reptiplantworks2294 Год назад
As far as appearance we don't really have any Aussie pythons that look like a royal python but if your looking for something with a placid temperament like a royal maybe a children's,stimpsons or spotted python, otherwise if you want something bigger with the same docile personality a diamond python or a blackhead python are probably one of the most placid species I've kept.

How often do you feed the smaller Darwin.
@reptiplantworks2294

Weekly to fortnightly depending on the season, he gets fed less during winter.
