i had a great time with this anime , thought it as fanservice but it actually has such a great story with characters , most animes cant grasp on too sometimes . origami is one of my fav characters in the show , i dont understand why some hate her , shes been through alot which is why she is violent, arrogant and is from a family that has been killed by spirit.
This show proves that balancing the amounts of fan service, comedy, and drama together in one small blend of magical girl-ness isn’t exactly easy. It focuses so much on fan service that I began to forget the entire point of the plot. It is almost as if some of the spirits are asking to make Shido’s mission of sealing their powers completely easy, and every female character falls into the same routine. It happens so frequently that I really don’t see too much point in it. Some can be good, but too much is disadvantageous. Furthermore, copious amounts of characters are added to the point that it leaves the rest of them shallow and two-dimensional. Many of the girls go through one particular small phase of development, and then for the rest of the series, they are casted aside to make room for the new incoming characters. And in the end, you have all these supposedly kawaii characters who have feelings for the protagonist, who you don’t even really care about due to lack of screen time or development. I’m not saying, though, that all of the female characters are completely two-dimensional (some of their developments aren’t too bad), but many of them simply do not show themselves enough. The excessive fan service really limits the show’s potential, and the romance side is slightly lacking. Are the girls cute? Sure. But nothing more. Besides the fact that there are random spirits that so happen to mingle with humans, and that Shido, with the somehow-obtained power to seal their powers, need to pacify them, there really is no other significant plot. These spirits are magical girls. Shido can only seal their powers by receiving a kiss from them. When their powers are sealed, they are stripped naked. A pair of twins are trying to seduce Shido. Shido cross dresses to accomplish a mission. Hmmm, sounds like a load of ideas simply used to generate some fan service shit. Besides that, the overall plot doesn’t exactly take a step forward. Instead, the series focuses on smaller-scaled events that differ from spirit to spirit, as each of them prove to be a relatively difficult to handle. The second season strays away from the pacing of the first and explores many of the significant issues some of the spirits are having, which, I thought, is a stronger aspect in the sequel. ess what I wanted to see was a little further development in the overall story of spirit and humans. I wanted something deeper, but what I got was a face-full of fan service, plot holes, and relatively weak characters. The series itself isn’t TOO bad, but it could have done better and at least rivaled with the first season. The anime is a disappointed wrapped in a mixed bag. Cant say the same for the manga or LN but Im judging it solely on its anime adaptation and its own merits.
I saw Date A Live and it was a surprisingly good anime series and I enjoyed every moment of it. I saw some Date A Live reviews and they didn't dig deep and kept an open mind. I do recommend it as well and I can't wait for season 2 dubbed and the movie as well.
The more I think about it, the more weird this anime sounds. Now, me personally, I love it. But any other person aligned with logic and the ability to explain things with scientific proof, can't exactly fathom; An alien called a spirit that comes to earth purely from awaking from a slumber with or against it's will, which summons a 'spirit quake' of which has great destructive power... So far, this seems OK in typical alien-based fictional illustration, right? But then in order to save the destructive entity from an organization that actively hunts them for bringing doom upon earth...... you have to date them, make them fall for you, and then kiss them. From there, the alien must be kept nearby or it's wild imagination will give itself the conclusion that you hate it, and that ultimately, brings great dangers of more spirit quakes. To mend the spirit, after becoming unstable, another date and kiss is in order. And that's just scratching the surface... I don't know how to explain this if someone walked in on me watching it, and asked me what I'm watching, and why. It's very very hard to explain without sounding like you're missing part of your brain. I hope whoever I might have to explain it to, would take a simple "it's complicated". But, more and more anime seem to inherit this kind of crazy, and I think Date A Live takes the prize. Its bizarre, and sounds like it came right out of a twisted dream, but I love it so very much. It's hard to find people to talk about this, which is why I think I typed it here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Date-A-Live was dumb, but fun and enjoyable. And actually I felt like the girls had a bit more personality and motivation then most love interests or harem bait, although I have to admit the weakening of their powers only by kissing is ridiculous, ranking right up there with Blue Exorist's "you can only see a demon if it bites you first " rule, and Shinon not defending herself from mcrapehentai Jr. in the Phantom Bullet arc.
Anyone else faving Kurumi? Man, ending to Season 2 was sad as shit, made be especially bummed when I found they don't got a season 3 yet, gotta wait all this time for a movie. I really hope they continue where they left off here.
When I initially watched this. I enjoyed it but didn't get the idea of dating sims and all of that. Now having watched a ton and seeing your review. I'm considering rewatching it whenever I have time because what the points you bring up is something I missed entirely throughout. Earned a sub, glad RU-vid recommended me to your ToraDora vid.
One of the biggest issues I had with this series was the dialogue. This is moreso an issue in the later seasons and a lack of animation at points where it desperately needed it. This show is at its best when it can do all of its storytelling visually.
I watched pretty much the all the episodes to the second season and while I don't like it that much I gotta give them props for making me want to see what happens next, Shido is also becoming a pimp with every new spirit lol by the end of the whole thing there are probably going to be like 100 spirits. The plot is rather non-existent because its hidden in all those tits.
I have to agree with you in some of the points you made. In the end to me though this was a pretty good anime. After the first 3 episodes I was curious to keep watching. I ended up enjoying this anime even though some things were just unnecessary. Good job with this review.
Oh no h8 fellow fan the show as good as it is to me did a horrible job compared to what the ln did which is not a good or bad thing imo since I was pleasantly surprised by it.
I thought this anime was okay. First season was decent, second season felt like they dropped the ball. Also, is a harem where the guy actually picks a girl just a pipe dream? Or does it actually exist?
you always got to take the dating sim dialogue "Hey girl what cup size you rocking?" hasn't worked for me yet (keyword yet), but I keep trying because if I believe it will come true. just so there is no confusion this is a joke
Ran into this anime randomly & not knowing anything about it very entertaining ,the different spirits and there abilities are dope this is a must see in subs currently on season 2 .
If they make a season 3 i want it to be better than season 1 and 2, i want it to redeem date a live as a very good anime because it honestly has a very interesting complex story, Date a live's Light novel/Manga is very good but the anime doesn't cover much of the actual story and there is a lot to date a live's story and its very underated.
Yep I recommend it and personally I watched it in dub first so and I know you probably already watched it by now but yea also I have not seen season 2 yet I hear its crap but I have not seen it so I wont judge it I am waiting for season 2 to come out in dub also I would get the dvd/blue ray
smithy fallen there might be a chance u might like it but I highly doubt you'll like it better than the first season. And since its not a spoiler that ruins the entire show, Kotori doesn't enter spirit form.
I listened to your other vid on dawn and pokemon, for some reason i like listening to what you have to say ;p, anyway you said some interesting stuff in this vid so i guess im gonna check out this anime. keep it up
Well, in episode 10, season 2 Tohka's inv- oh, almost forgot, SPOILER!!!!!!- is insanely powerful!!! In just one attack she leveled a large portion of the city.
I have not seen season 2 yet cuz I watched it in dub (don't judge me) but if so WOW but hey do you see much of Kotori in it like either when she is in her commander mode or like in spirt form
I have to agree with you in some of the points you made. In the end to me though this was a pretty good anime. After the first 3 episodes I was curious to keep watching. I ended up enjoying this anime even though some things were just unnecessary. Good job with this review.
This might be late the light novel of this excels in foreshadowing and volume 1 sets up a great build up on what to come happen. I liked the anime but the Light Novels is way better cause the characters fleshed out.
