Swapping 280ZX struts into the Datvacado 510 wagon. I re-use a weld on coil over setup with 280zx struts to get bigger brakes! I also reveal the wheels I chose!

When I did the strut swap on my 69, I put the tire back on and used a pipe wrench. I kicked the wrench, which was enough to bust that shock nut loose. Then again, it matters where the struts came from. Thanks for the awesome dime video. I dig the original paint color

Crushed the c pillar. Stripped everything off, and bought another body. Problem is, the new body needs a shit ton of rust repair. Almost every panel kfvintage offers, I need. A little daunting. Your videos are inspirational. They are helping me regain interest. Thanks. I also like how you edit your videos, but more importantly. I like how you don't give a fuck what people think of your repairs. You just wanna enjoy the car for being a car... maybe I should learn that. Thanks again.

23:36 Just a heads up you are missing a coil over cap. It keeps the coil over centered and it is the surface that comes into contact with the strut top bearing so the weight is dispersed when you turn the wheel. Look up techno toy tuning for examples of coil over kit. Great build keep up the good work. Your motivating me to work on my avocado 510 wagon.

Thank you for the heads up! I saw the top plates that techno toy tuning sells. They are reasonably priced. I’ll get a set ordered and do a follow up vid on that!

This. The spring needs to be supported by the upper strut bearing. It wasn't on the old setup.

Not a bad cheap way for bigger brakes on a 510. But if youre going to rock it low like that, you are better off running shorter inner shocks than the stock 280zx shocks inside the 280zx struts. Theres a wide variety of shorter inner shocks that you can run so that you arent reducing half your strut travel with the full length unit. Me personally on my 510, ive got 910 maxima struts, similar to zx but a little shorter, and i chopped them and rewelded them to accept sw2 mr2 shocks. I get the benefit of super low coilovers, but theyve got full travel.

That’s some great info! I might do that in the future. The zx inserts were still too tall. I’ve heard about the mr2 inserts but never looked into it. Thanks for the tip!

Man looking good! Moving fast. Just heads up the 280zx struts you might need to flip sides so right is on left and left to right. The steering linkage hits the calipers so flipping moves it to the front so it Clears. Keep it up 👍

So driver side strut on passenger side of car would move the brake caliper to the front side of the rotor right? Will that work if the steering arm is pointed to the front when the 510 was meant for a rear steer set up? I might have to mock it up to see what you mean. I'll check it out as soon as I can. @@BuildSeason the steering knuckle keep it on the same side from the start it bolt up the same way even if flipped. There are some write ups on Ratsun forums

Question, why didn't you just swap the 510strut tubes. Onto the z Knuckles?

I hadn't thought of that. The research I've done suggested this method as the way to swap to zx struts. What would be the best way to get the strut tube out of the knuckle? Maybe a press? Do you have a picture or link to a thread on this? That would have saved me a lot time. I went with the whole setup from the 280zx for the usual reasons. Bigger brakes, narrower track width (for the 0 offset wheels).
