Datsunheaven Australia series Grassroots Garage from Sydney Australia interviews passionate Car enthusiasts around the world! Tell us about your car! / grassrootsgarage Cheers, Pete and Ryan
Thankyou Grassroots Garage so much for taking the time to come to the farm and listen to me waffle on about the best car in the world!!! What a great day it was!
That 510 making an entrance is how I used to drive my little Nissan 1400 Champ (Sunny pick up) whenever I found an empty dirt road. Endless donuts on open fields meant I wore the little 12" tyres down rather quickly. Ah the joys of youth......
I owned a Datsun 1600 back in the early eighties . L18 sss motor, Pedders suspension, Recaro seats , loved this car, wish I had it now. Great to see the spirit of this car is still alive.
The 1600 tacho was readily available as an accessory/spare part. I'm pretty sure my dad optioned his car with it when new. Last I checked, it still measured the FJ20E rpm quite well :)
The.boys are back and the videos have kicked up a notch. I love the updates in intro, style etc. Might have to get myself one of the new caps. My OG one is well worn now
Brings back some memories seeing the Datto 1600s. My first car was a Datto 1600 I bought for $800 with an L18 engine in it. Had a 45DCOE side-draught Weber, extractors , four on the floor. Good times. I still regret getting rid of it. Thought I was doing well getting $800 for it when I sold it, would be worth a heap more than that today!
Thanks for watching mate!!! For me "Ryan" first 1600 also had a single Weber l18 and extractors, I sold that particular one but was lucky enough to buy another one That I still own today 16 years and counting. How good are Datsuns 💪
Got a 180b I picked up 18 months ago for $500 as a roller, have since rebuilt an l18, restored all running gear, almost time to put the engine in then its paint and panel work and fitting it all together
I thought you guys were gonna say unlike part1 in southern California we haven't lost any footage lol I've been looking forward to this since you posted on the gram !
Love Datsun 1600s. I've had maybe 10 or 12. People use to just give them away. My last one was my best. 13b turbo in it. Rotaries and Datsun 1600s were my thing. Loved them both. The old story if I had of kept that car haha
I’ve wondered whether my brothers was the first Datsun 1600 SR20 turbo conversion in Australia. It was also done in around 1991 by a shop in Melbourne called i think P.E.T. Performance. No one new these motors at the time as the FJ was the common conversion and the 200SX was not in Australia. Sadly the car was written off by someone else but the mechanicals lived on in another car and then the engine morphed to a Nizpro built SR20DET which was scary! The car did nothing for a lot of years and was sold to someone in WA in 2020.
Wow! Can't believe I stumbled upon this vid randomly on YT. I had heaps of Datsun 1600 in the 1990s. Had a 2.3 stroker in one, it was the best engine, such a giant killer, ran it in the NSW Supersprint series. Ended up getting Ric Shaw to put ITB and fuel injection on it for me. Miss it so much after watching this vid 🤣👍
@@GrassRootsGarage I think it may have been the first turbo one. But I think there was one in SA or WA that was earlier. It really doesn't matter though.
@@tobygoldburg pretty sure I do, I met you years ago with old army boy Andrew Slater, I’ll see if I can dig up the pics, I remember seeing ya when i was drunk and always bringing it up, you’d be like “who the fuck is this kid”😂😂
Shane Essex . I once work in the same area as a bloke back in 1994 has exactly the same car identical..I reckon it had the SR20 n/a been in since 1992 in SA
I believe somewhere in AUS was a 4G63 swapped 1600/510 when I started my research back in 2004-2005, but I can't find anything on it. So as far as I'm aware, I have the only 4G63 swapped 1600/510 in the world. I'd like to see more of them because it seems easier to me than an SR swap. The only advantage to the SR swap that I see is that people make swap kits for them. But the motor itself I don't feel is as good as the 4G63.
Just throwing it into the air! on the subject of 1600s conversion... has anyone seen or heard of dat•186 recently he told me about 12yrs ago he was getting it back on the road???
I’m in 2 minds got a one owner 78 120y wagon all original and drive It as much as I can, the boy racer is me is telling me CA or 12a swap but you just don’t see 120y wagons anymore -
What distributor is in my a14 engine the number on the side is D4 11-A3 it is installed into my 1973 Datsun 1200 four-door sedan I would also like to know the Suzuki Ignis power steering unit how easy to fit
Hello I have a question for Toby....is there a certin way to hookup the Ignis electric steering, I would like to see if that makes it easier for my wifey
Nice mate!!!! We are pencilling in some more #datsunheaven content for January, we definitely need to check out the west coast scene 💪 I don’t think either of us have been to WA
Fuji Heavy Industries built the Datsun diffs for Datsun and Fuji heavy industries built all the Subies. So they basically just recycled their old proven design.
