The best observational humour you will ever see. Dave would not have liked to be called a comedian, but rather a raconteur. To sit alone and perform like this takes guts, but Dave's humour was and still is pure genius. There is nothing like him today. The best. How blessed we are those of us who have lived in his life time and remember him.
I grew up with this man's humour. It was compulsery watching in our house. He had the whole of my family in stitches. His observations of the absurd where so spot on. Always giving a well deserved poke at the establishment. Never fails to make me laugh. Sorely missed by the older generation. The young don't know what they have missed.
Dave Allen was my grandfathers favourite 👍🏻 comedians of his calibre don’t exist today , his delivery as if he’s sitting on your sofa chatting to you is genius 👍🏻
Meet him at Malaga airport many years ago while our flights were delayed. We had quite a long chat about the downfall of television comedy and why he hadn't appeared on the box for some years now. Dave hit out (in language I won't repeat here) that he was basically censored because his face didn't fit in with the new wave. He also went on to say that he upset certain people who refuse to forgive or forget. Not only was Dave a true comic genius he was also genuine nice guy.
Wow i envy you folks who met him,he,s a guy id have loved to have had a pie and a pint with....without a shadow of a doubt our greatest comedian ever in my opinion.
He was more alternative then some alternative comedians . He swore (not condemning just stating the fact ), he attacked religion, i don't recall his monologues being political but please correct me if I'm wrong, he was more observational .
@@Fcutdlady i disagree with you Fcutdlady regarding he attacked religion, what he was unique at was finding humour in most subjects which inc religion ,and i dont think he was an alternative comedian compared to todays alternative comedians who i dont find funny in any shape or form.As regards to him swearing in his act ,he only started to swear when he moved over from the BBC to ITV in the 90,s even then he rarely used the F word in his act.,but i respect your opinion .
Isn't it great that we have the means to watch people like Dave Allen on recorded media. In a sense it's like they are still with us, still doing what they did, making us laugh. Thank god for technology!
Stephen Williams If the BBC had its way we would never see any of it. All of his work and that of many others is considered far to risque, in this new Orwellian PC world
Stephen Williams well if our Dave was still here I can only imagine thec roasting our government would get over the brexit fiasco he'd make ,Still don't know how he lost that finger ??????
Still, to this day, I can't believe he is gone. I would put him right up there with Laural and Hardy in terms of timing and comedic laughter. No one who is around now, would be fit to tie this man's shoelaces. The late, the great, Dave Allen. RIP.
@@lordeden2732 I'm not so sure everything he did was written by someone else, but even if it was he certainly had better writers than today's so called comedians, plus the fact that he could and indeed did a fabulous job delivering the comedy and that's something that can't be touched by today's comedians.
My comedy hero as a raconteur and observer of life. His sanity, intelligence and ability to be such excellent company to his audience was unique. Even more, he was my favourite of all Irishmen.
loved the way he ended shows with "and may your god go with you". As an 8yo it developed an understanding of diversity. And may your god go with you Dave.
this man is so intelligent and so true to the law of the UK. I am a lawyer of working class origin. And some of what he says is still so relevant nearly forty years later.
Wonderful storyteller. You become hooked onto every story. So glad he shared them with the world. One of my favourites and one of my heroes. We need more like Dave Allen. It's a darker world without him.
Dave Allen, Jimmy O Dea and Dermot Morgan will always be Ireland's answer to Comedy and rightfully so. Happy St Patrick's Day up in Heaven Boys, enjoy those unlimited free pints of Guinness. God Bless 💚🍀
Thanks . Dave Allen was a genius! Never laughed as much in years. It really is all common sense and fair play to him he knew how to work it. I understand! We ,re Irish!
Why are all the best comedians from the 60s, 70s, etc etc. Dave Allen, Ken Dodd, Bob MonkHouse the list goes on. All they needed was their genius and with no crudity just the suggestion. No need for foul language, unless in context. I grew up with these and I show them to my children, and I hope they show their children. God bless and R.I.P. to you all. You are missed.
Not really. All that they will have to do is, just frequently and in large quantities to raise their bottles bottom up!!! And say:"Misery ... bad health!" They will be down 6 ft under, hopefully next to a broken sewer line. Even in death, modern comics can not get close to Dave. RIP
@Michael Hazle Sir you said that like I meant it, you are absolutely right ! It's almost like his humor flowed from his lips like water flowing down river. He was a very smart talented man. Today's comedy is like today's music and tv its just a noise to listen to . Or at least that's the way I feel and think about it. Happy new year
Brilliant, Dave Allen, a True Legend, thanks for the Laughter, Especially in These Times, All Over the World, Stay Safe Everyone and 'God Bless You' Dave Allen, XX
One of the few shows that my mom dad and I would watch together....they loved his somewhat "bawdy" style of humour, as did I, and I am grateful I had that time with them during my teens. We even went to see him live when he came to Vancouver.
I discovered Dave when I was a young woman in my 20's in the 80's. He's even funnier now. Wonderfully brilliant mind and man. After all of these years I still think of some of his sketches. A tip of the glass and a big "Cheers" to Dave, wherever he is.
Thanks for posting this show ! My late Dad and I always watched his show and Benny Hill each Sunday night faithfully for years on. KTTW in CHICAGO. Found out a while back that he'd passed away. So sad he was a class act. I loved his gentle mocking of the Irish, Catholicism, and the British. He always cracked me up ; and I am Irish and an ex-catholic. We won't see his like again. Now when I need a laugh, I can watch all my classic comedians on RU-vid ! :-)
I remember him as one of the best foreign stand up and sketch comedians , when Norwegian TV bought his show from BBC. Very happy to see him again, here on RU-vid
Incredible comic genius. Oddly, an Irishman but, in a way, an honorary Englishman. A kind of Mid-Irish Sea man. Lived in London for many years. Met him on the District Line near ~Chiswick Park in 1999. All I said was the obvious "may your God go with you..." The great man laughed.
Dave was one of the TRUE Giants of comedy and he left a void that cannot ever be refilled. . .Requiscat in Pace My Irish Brother. May The Earth Lie Gently On Your Bones.
Thank you so much for this. Oh dear old Dad (deceased aswell) used to try to uphold his Irish Catholic values just like Dave, like everything was evil or it wasn't and even if you told the truth, 'It, wasn't! Funny thing was tho , Dad would sit in his chair eating peanuts and my brother and I would watch Dad's face get redder and redder watching Dave , . he actually did choke on a couple of nuts, but his uncontrollable laughter coughed them out. So thank you Dave Allen's son for this.
an American fan who misses him. One of my comic heroes. I still tell some of his jokes at parties and even though I'm not very funny, I always get laughs because his jokes are that good :)
Finally got His name, seen Him on the TV one time when i was young and all i could remember was He was missing a finger and was really funny. I tried to search for him... comedian missing a finger, but nothing pop-up at that time, kind of gave up but now and then thought about him and now this video showed up and i was about too pass it by and then the i wonder if its him. Yes it is and it's sad to find out that Dave Allen pass away in 2005 (R.I.P.), so thanks for posting the video and now i can catch up on what i missed out on.
His comedy was timeless because he was such a great observer of humanity. Our frailties, our quirks, our ridiculousness, our vanities, our prejudices, everything that makes up the human psyche. Dave Allen was on it. His humour will Never be outdated. 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤
I am glad some of them finally appears in youtube. Before I was looking like hell I used to watch it in ABC television but did not have a recorder then
