This Dave Harrington guy is awesome. This is true innovative, artistic, gorgeous guitar, and his control over the delays, loops and reverbs is masterful. Thanks, Guitar Power/D'Addario/Matt Sweeney for turning me on to Darkside.

Dave Harrington is a great example of how to hone in your pedalboard, guitar and expressiveness to really make music that is the perfect difference between the synth-like sounds he makes. A lotta extremists of sound out there, nice to see someone who has a real balance.

At 5:13 when he send the loop up an octave before bringing it back in with the mod on his guitar, does he already have the pedal set to 1/2 speed before pressing the switch? I was under the impression that the 4th switch would send play your loop back at half speed and therefore an octave down, not an octave up.

Looking back at this video to get an inspiration from his pedal board. I am a newbie and would really like to go this direction with my soundscapes, what would it be the updates that would be done on this configuration? Are these pedals still relevant or would be changed by something new or compact? Need help :)

@@haevan92Hey ! I've got a Bluesky + RE-20. Do you think it's alright, or would you suggest something more "programmable" with expression pedals, for example ? How can I approach these kinds of reversed reverberated loops ? Dave seems to do that stuff on the go, only with feet and hot switches, that's really impressive 👌🏻

Cool story for interested parties: I saw their last show before disbanding and they had this huge circular mirror behind them reflecting all of this crazy lighting back on to the crowd. After the last song jaar took Harrington's guitar and smashed the mirror with it. It was so fucking dope.

It will be a great disservice to the up and coming generations if they have no understanding of where these guys are coming from, who they are influenced by. There are MANY great Guitarists out there. And the reason they are doing what they are doing is because of the guys that came before them. Here's a few of them: David Torn, Bill Frisell, Sonny Sharrock, Derek Bailey, Fred Frith, Dave Fiuczynski, Vernon Reid, Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Elliot Sharp. These guys are the trailblazers for modern electric guitar. And, I have to say, very few younger ones have anything important to say on the instrument because they're not going back and really checking out what these guys did. Do yourself a favor and spend a good deal of time listening to these guys that I mentioned, if you don't know who they are. I've modified my comment since very few people seemed to understand what I was saying before. Hopefully, this help. Be well, Depth of knowledge, experience, and Artistry outweigh Youth.
@WatermelonPhaser
@WatermelonPhaser 10 лет назад
Young people like Dave are doing stuff with the guitar that none of the oldies can wrap their head around. Guitar music is dying because people still playing like the older generation are making it stale, predictable, boring. etc.
@JamesScottGuitar
@JamesScottGuitar 10 лет назад
I would have to argue that point. David Torn, Bill Frisell, Dave Fiuczynski from Screaming Headless Torsos....
@JamesScottGuitar
@JamesScottGuitar 10 лет назад
*****, I don't think he will be "the reason" people are playing guitar in 10 years. I am happy to see that you are so passionate about him as a player. Nils Cline? Why isn't he featured on here? Adrian Belew? Fred Frith? Aren't these the guys that laid the foundation for all that is currently now possible? And, they have been doing it for the last 25 years. They have the knowledge base, experience and Artistry to transmit valuable information for all younger generations coming up. And, they have the wisdom of their experiences that the younger generations don't have. Like I said before, I am happy you are passionate about what he is doing. I hope he continues to grow and develop as a musician because that is what will help younger generations to come.
@JamesScottGuitar
@JamesScottGuitar 10 лет назад
***** Stale and predictable? Mike Moreno? Julian Lage? What exactly are you listening to? What I see people listening to is largely a result of personal taste, and what is popular which means, "what is either on the radio or trending on RU-vid." Great guitarists have absolutely nothing to do with that. Current Popular Music comes from our sad Culture. And, our sad Culture is based on TV Shows like American Idol.

JamesScottGuitar, Matt Sweeney hosted a similar youtube series called Guitar Moves. He interviewed guys like Josh Homme, Dean Ween, Billy Gibbons and Albert Hammond Jr. Some young guys too, but that series might be more up your alley.

@tonypepperoni612
@tonypepperoni612 7 лет назад
it's just acts an expression for another pedal. he said he would put in the expression pedal slot. I'm guessing the more you hold down the more expression it gives exponentially/fast taper to the effect pedal you have hooked up to it.
@tonypepperoni612
@tonypepperoni612 7 лет назад
