What is most impressive about Dave Lombardo is that it doesnt matter if he is on his big kit or this smaller kit. He can still make it sound fantastic. That is the mark of a great drummer. Anyone can have 20 drums and 25 cymbals because then all you have to do it take and swing and you will hit something. Here Dave shows that big kit or smaller kit, he still kicks ass. Great job.
A lot of nice touches in here especially around the 6.40 mark before the bass drums kick in. He can certainly play unlike a lot of the double bass drum metal drummers where you take away their bass drums and they lose the ability to play. The best of the thrash crowd.
The drum kit is not for playing solo, but can be. A drummer should never be judged on his/her solo effort. The best drummers make the band sound good. Dave Lombardo is one of the best. His dynamics and feel are first class.
I've always found Dave's style more like an early punk rock drummer than metal. Yes his double bass is very metal but the way he approaches the scank beat and his fills in general are very punk rock. His manic craziness always reminded me of punk rock. 💀☠💀

Leonardo Carrizo Yes, that’s true. But Slipknot and Lamb are well, pretty awful bands that just followed the death metal drummers of the early 90s like Gene Hoglan and Pete Sandoval... but made it more accessible to the mainstream and groovy. I do agree with being original (which is very hard now considering how much music there is), I’ve been writing for 25 years... it’s tough!

But they are bands that marked a before and after in the music in the genre they represent (taking into account that today there is a lot of artificial or digital music and it is not so much the raw sound). I do not agree that it is difficult to create new things, if you handle certain musical influences you can create from that with your own ideas ... it is about acquiring resources and doing it! I say it from my place of drummer and writer too. PHILM is a project in which Dave Lombardo is and it is almost completely new because it mixes several genres, skill and originality.
Many people are considering the drum solo as competition .. he is better than thus the other is better than him .. who cares who is the best ?? Just enjoy the fucking music ! Or get the Hell out of here

Not true. Here he is playing with quite a bit of diversity and different dynamics. He's not just using one trick at all. Far from one trick pony. Many different flavours here in this solo.

Dave Weckl might be better, together with a lot more drummers when it comes to technical skills.On the other hand, what he did with Slayer and thrashmetal in general is quite unbeatable....
I like both drummers but weckle didn't do anything new or invent a new style to drums like Lombardo did. so by which that alone is a big deal Lombardo is better.
