If there is one thing that sucks about being addicted to this man and his band, it's watching one youtube video at 2:00am when your alarm is set for 6:00am..It's impossible to stop clicking next.
I’m going out on a limb to say this is Dave’s all time best performed song. This is everything that a fan could ask for. The power, the chills, the raw emotion. Wow.
I used to watch this video everyday for like 3 or 4 years, that was like 10 years ago....Today, I just remembered about the clip and watched it for the first time in 10 years and it brought me to tears.....what a song, his voice, the guitars playing....it just made me realize how fast time goes by, remembered things I regret not doing and things I super regret doing haha, so many things have happened in 10 years and history is all they are....now we just get to move on and live one day at the time! If anyone is reading my comment today, be blessed!
If you think this cause goosedumps, this is nothing compared to a good blu-ray outfit. Sony, 6 years ago especially made this to show off the better atmospheric sound here of blu-ray if it is implemented right..
Monster touring bands rarely win bullshit grammy's. I'm sure Dave knows very well how accomplished and loved. Grammy's are cor those who need the recognition they don't feel. Dave and Tim know they are kings. Nothing like Dave at the gorge or red rocks.
He deserves more than s Grammy for this DVD.... I personally think it’s the greatest acoustic performance ever filmed!!... Everyone I show it too falls in love with it... Even if they aren’t a Dave Matthews fan
I had this “epiphany” years ago that Dave has come to the realization that he’s just a vessel for the sounds that he’s producing. Almost as if he’s overcome by the spirit of sound... he’s trapped in it, but comfortably observing. It’s like you can see it in his eyes.
I feel like around 7:45, when he at starts to open his eyes he feels this way! He’s kinda like “Wow, this is awesome. I can’t believe what’s coming out of me right now.”
dippydoo dangle I agree. And he made it the way REAL bands make it. Play as much as you can and get your fans BEFORE you go to a record label. And let fans record. I was almost thrown out of a show front row for recording and DAVE saw the security guard escorting me out and ran to the sound guy and started pointing at me yelling "STOP STOP" and was fucking PISSED And it was AWESOME!!!
The playing and singing from 0:50 to 3:29, I could listen to that for hours. Nonstop, literally hours. This free-form, flowing, floating radiance of sound and impression, like a joik, it resonates with me on a deep level.
I envy the fuck out of you but I’m also pretty sad for you as well. Too many reasons to list. Listen to Central Park and Live at Luther if you haven’t. Quintessential shit.
Ive listened to this song hundreds of times and this ending makes me get the chills and the tears flow uncontrollable....this and the ending to Field of Dreams makes me tear up always!!!
Dave Mathews- Bartender My interpretation is a man at the end of his rope. Suffering from pain and addiction, and is now facing his decisions he made in his life that he has been running from. An overwhelming point in his life, where the pot is broiling, and everything is coming to the surface. He is now asking for forgiveness, guidance, and closure. His whole life he has been tempted and succumbed to mortal pleasures, but his soul has never been truly fulfilled. Now, at this point in his life, he recognizes what is truly important, and now has to right all his wrongs. It's a beautiful song.
I rented out a movie theatre with a few friends. One of the best decision I've ever made. Second to going to the show itself ; ) not trying to brag though!
I have this concert on blu ray as well! With the wrong region code though, so I cannot play it on my blu ray player. Didn't really think of that while ordering it from the US...
Never thought about getting the disc versions. I buy blutooth speakers and watch on youtube. Even though i buy the best, most expensive speakers, i dont think they would compare to a home system. 👍
I discovered this DVD when I worked at Future Shop... I was 17 and this was the first blue ray I ever saw on a 60 inch tv in the media room.... I literally sat there on my lunch on the demo couch and watched this religiously..... It still is one of my favourite dvds ever!!.... I’ll add that I was/still am a metal head!
I'm a metal head too, but I am also a Dave fan. They are so musically talented, yoid be missing out if you dosnt like them for whatever reason.... Bc they arent metal. It's all about the art and music. Absolutely mind blowing.
I am also a metel head.... But even more so I am a huge fan of music, and this and all of Dave&Co. is some of the greatest music there has ever been heard and felt!
I used to be a singer. Long ago. Scarring and nodules and not taking care of my vocal cords made me lose alot of my abilities. But, even at my peak. Never could I even cover something as magical as this. So many people have ''the voice''. But the honesty to bare, and perform like this. Is what makes the difference between a good voice, and a performer. This is Magic.
This never gets old. Dave and Tim are nothing short of incredible performers. The feeling here is phenomenal, I just wonder how awesome it would've been to actually be there....
2 Guys - 2 Guitars -1 Microphone! Amazing! This song touches my soul like no other! The last 1:00 or so is the best piece of music I’ve heard period! I hope this song touches the deepest part your soul as it did for me! I just left the cemetery… I wanted my Mom to hear this song! I hope she heard it!!
I think it's simply because he met Tim Reynolds when he was working as a bartender in Charlottesville. He's also agnostic so I doubt he is referencing God.
I’m not gonna be that asshole that argues. I’m an angry militant atheist. I’ve been writing a story for 20 years that revolves around a fallen angel, the bastard son of christ, & a miracle worker taking on the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse. I’ve read the bible & pull alot of ideas from the book of revelation. I’ve also seen Dave Matthews Band/ Dave & Tim live 15 times over a 10 year period. I listened to nothing else for almost 4 & 1/2 years solid. You can write about religion & not believe. Dave is deep. This song is absolutely about god.
I used to listen to Dave Matthews and Dave Matthews band a TON and for some reason I stopped. I just heard the new album mostly on XM Radio and purchased it and dusted off many of my old albums and very few bands give me a sense of peace as do his bands. Some Devil is so criminally underrated in my opinion and few FEW artists crush it as much as he does Live.
If I go Before I'm old Oh, brother of mine Please don't forget me if I go Bartender, please Fill my glass for me With the wine you gave Jesus that set him free After three days in the ground Oh, and if I die Before my time Oh, sweet sister of mine Please don't regret me if I die Bartender, please Fill my glass for me With the wine you gave Jesus that set him free After three days in the ground Bartender, please Fill my glass for me With the wine you gave Jesus that set him free After three days in the ground I'm on bended knees, I pray Bartender, please When I was young, I didn't think about it Now I can't get it out of my mind I'm on bended knees Father, please Oh, and if all this gold Should steal my soul away Oh, dear mother of mine Please redirect me if this gold Bartender, you see The wine that's drinking me Came from the vine that strung Judas from the Devil's tree His roots deep, deep in the ground Bartender, you see The wine that's drinking me Came from the vine that strung Judas from the Devil's tree Its roots deep, deep in the ground Ground I'm on bended knees Oh, Bartender, please I'm on bended knees Father, please When I was young, I didn't think about it Now I just want to run and hide I'm on bended knees Oh, Bartender, please Bartender, please
This is by far my favorite live recording ever produced. This entire album is just amazing. It's difficult to get through Bartender without being emotionally overwhelmed.
He has so many good songs, but this is his masterpiece imo. Haunting, beautiful, and much more. The guy accompanying on guitar is adding so much atmosphere to the song...gives me chills, all of it. At the beginning, his notes always remind me of bagpipes at a funeral...that may sound dumb, but it's how it sounds to me.
This song... i dont know how he does it...... that intro.... just. wow. Incredible.... his music is so amazing. It gives me somewhere to go... when things are bad... drift away to the great music of dave matthews.
I always found this song to be deeply moving but now after knowing they played it right after Leroi died it's just on a whole new emotional level. Great song. Great man. Great band. End of story.
Like the score to an epiphany or great spiritual experience of some sort. Tim & Dave are absolute masters of their craft. This performance defines what it means to get blown away. Wow!
No matter how many times I've watched this over the years, every single time it feels like a deeply spiritual experience. The intro and especially the outro leave me filled with emotion, gasping for breath. Chills
"Bartender you see the wine that's drinking me, Came from the vine that strung Judas from the Devil's tree It's roots deep, deep in the ground." He will go down as one of the best songwriters ever.
Heartfully, beautiful...magic. Dave and Tim be blessed. Their sense, sounds, passion,.skill...speechless ! They explored any space we even coudn't think if it exists. They're such genius from the opening until the song fades !
It takes one deep soul Dave to be a poet like you and the deep experience you have had to play like you play and sing the way you do. There is only one Dave Matthews,
Having never heard of DM till a clip of the riff for bartender came up on my guitar app about 10 minutes ago, I’m glad this is the first thing I stumbled across when looking the song up
Already got it to be played at my funeral! Then Taps ! I'm a VETERAN this song saved my soul during long nights overseas!! Winston Salem NC Ziggy's Dave if u read these 90
My all time favorite d m b song and together with Tim playing it’s beyond amazing .Something happens when they are together that is almost magical and if you’re lucky enough to be there you’ll know what I mean and you guys have seen him /them way more times than I have
Those passionate “I’m on bended knees”, surely nobody is that talented. I still can’t understand how he does it. I speak the lyrics and I get a sore throat. Madness.
April 2009, Charlottesville, VA...........this song brought everyone together......i believe this lasted 20 minutes........or maybe it was just the green.......he jammed at the end of this for minutes and minutes.......love you Dave......
