@Adam Massacre are you guys for real ? just because of the meme you are shitting on his entire legacy. He was a great drummer in the early days in the first 3 albums he was flawless. His problem was that he just never evolved with time.
I like to imagine that there is a universe where we all got Megallica and Metadeth instead. A universe where Lars can drum, Dave doesn't want to fight, and James isn't a bird.

I’m a Metallica fan and a Megadeth fan. I have read lots of Metallica biographies and what not. I totally believe Dave about all of this. They were like children back in the day. They didn’t start growing up for real until the 2000s. Jason Newsted is such a nice guy from every thing I have read or seen about him. They treated him like absolute dirt too.
They are real scumbags for how much they bullied and disrespected Mr Newsted for so many years just because he was not Cliff.. I'm sure if he'd still been around Cliff would have left the band in disgust at them if he'd seen how bad they treated a good hearted guy
The truth is, getting out of Metallica was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. He created his own band, made his own name for himself. It was destiny.
@@HighFalutinTootin No doubt. Even James Hetfield said, they all drink crazy. But Dave Mustang was the worst. And from what James Hetfield says The biggest problem with Dave Mustaine was that you either get the best guitarist in the world or the worst. You never knew which one. So the only way they could proceed forward with the people that wanted to work with them was to replace him. Something tells me if it wasn’t for the people, and I forget their names, that we wanted them to get rid of him they either would not of done it would not have done it for a long time. Much of their success was absolutely due to Dave & Cliff. They did Dave wrongful but we got Megadeth from it. He took lemons & outperformed James. Metallica has 4 great albums and after that.. it's a mixed bag of hot turds. The black album is when Metallica changed to the worst. I will say that the "I Dissappear" single from Mission Impossible II was pretty good, but not great. But other than that.. Metallica is weak sauce. Especially now days.

agreed but if James is saying that it was Dave who kicked his dog and well 3 other bandmates agreed to kick Dave out, which person do you think is lying?
One of Mustaine's best. Flawlessly performs classics like "James Kicked My Dog" and "Lars is a Bad Drummer" while also including deep cuts like "Those Guys Aren't Birds." Really a top notch interview.
What’s odd is post-Dave, Metallica has been James, Lars, Kirk, and 3 bass players. Megadeth has been a revolving door with Dave hiring and firing members left and right. And Dave will never forgive them for firing him.
I don’t really believe it’s because of that. He really just hires and fires people to bring in new talent with their own song writing skills and play style. He really just does it for the difference in sound for upcoming music I guess. It’s Dave’s band so he prob just wants new creativity.
@@MrColtrainJones 3 Bass players. He said "post-Dave". McGovney was replace by Cliff before Dave was fired so there have been 3 bass players post-Dave.

@@StGroovy I'm sure every guitarist agrees. The thing is, not every music fan is a musician. A lot of people probably gloss over guitar skills etc. and just go for whatever sounds good to them (or what is more accessible).
youll respect him even more when you realize megadeth continues to make really good music. i love both bands but wake me up when met makes their first thrash album since justice.
I believe Dave. He tells it like it is. The stories of Metallica taunting Jason are disrespectful. Jason is an emotionally strong guy to put up with their antics. God bless him and Dave for being so humble. Great musicians that left their mark on musical world.
The problem people have with highly intelligent, confident people, is that they tend to be honest about both their strengths and their weaknesses. Dave is aware of his role in Metallica, and what he said in this video is just facts.
I was fortunate to party with the original Megadeth ( Killing is my business, and business is good ) after the show where Flotsam and Jetsom opened in Phoenix AZ. During the show me and my friends were invited to Flotsams pad for an after party. They said Megadeth was planning on going. We went. Hung out with all of Flotsam except Jason. We were having a great time. Then Jason showed up with his girlfriend. Shortly after, a knock on the door. It was Megadeth. Everyone cheered. Dave came in first. We hung out with Dave. He was so chill. He was just so easy-going and friendly with everyone.
@@neildmonte8786 - In all fairness, James really isn't all that good of a singer if you compare him to someone like Geoff Tate for example. In that case, most people would say James totally sucks ass by comparison.
I was watching the Some Kind of Monster documentary with Lars and Dave. And even Lars was tearing up because he started to realize how they abandoned Dave. Because all he had was his Mom, him and James.
You are correct because two of my main influences playing guitar even though I've went way past those days...are And justice for all and Rust in peace. Personally Chuck from Death wrote better songs and had better leads and lyrics than either band...and he was one of many that topped these giants at the time. Still today I'd put Chuck up against Dave or James as the better frontman.
How could he be "still salty" when this clip is from 2008? This is 14 years old, so I seriously doubt it. A lot has happened since then, including Metallica not even writing a half-way decent song for about 30 years.

i mean i think megadeth is better but that is no reason to trash metallica and its fans. that goes both ways. "what did i expect from a megadeth fan" was a dumb remark
I've always thought that Dave leaving Metallica was a good thing. Because without Megadeth, there would be no Peace Sells, Holy Wars or Hanger 18 and a so many other great songs that could never happen in Metallica.
It also made an amazing story, I love the fact that Dave came back with a vengeance forming his own band Megadeth. He was out of control and probably deserved to get fired, but still redeemed himself by having a ton of success and huge impact on the culture of Heavy Metal
Perfectionists usually are. That's not to say his music is perfect (we're talking about art afterall), but I bet it's as close to his idea of perfect at the time it was recorded. I've heard it said before that Megadeth = "Dave Mustaine and his hired guns". I agree.

Ironic considering I believe (I read his book) he was currently in the throes of a prescription pill addiction during this interview. He does seem quite hyper. He mentions in the full interview maybe moving back to california because his wife was going to divorce him. But he saved it and are still together.
Yep. He’s not grabbing this out of thin air, you can tell by the flow which he has that what he’s saying is true. Even if it’s told through his own filter you can be sure that he’s not making it up and I’d trust him over Lars who I’ve never gotten a good impression of. Dave has great flow in his story telling, this was amusing to watch.

I think he's being 100% honest as well . His problem has always been he never holds firm .. on his statements . Today he would probably say Lars is a good ! drummer , and get offended if anyone said he wasn't . He did the same type of thing on Marty F. and Al Pitrelli . Said Al was a better guitarist than Marty , and would have picked him if they had both tried out the same day . Then later said Al was a good "temporary" replacement but certainly no Marty !! Mustaine goes all over the place with his statements .
Dave Mustaine openly loves many things...his wife, his daughter, his dog, his guitar collection. He loves making wine. He loves to hold small shows and play for his closest friends and family. He loves making hard hitting, well thought out, metal tunes that will be relevant for decades to come, something Metallica quit doing years ago. Dave isn't on a huge ego trip. He's rather humble, especially considering his talent. No, the members of Metallica, namely Lars, but sometimes James, have allowed their over inflated to egos run amok. At least twice they've selfishly and in a slimy and cowardly way, fired people from the band who were talented, loyal, and integral parts of the band. That kind of karma will right itself eventually.
"Fired".. from what was (at that time) considered to be nothing short of a garage band, which would be the equivalent to losing your job as a garage sale attendant.

This is why he’s pissed In this particular interview. I’m not a Lars hater…but don’t act like he’s innocent either. If anyone hurt my dog I would fight them as well. Great interview. I feel like Dave is a better dude than media and Metallica documentaries make him out to be. He is a bigger legend than if he would have stayed in Metallica for sure.
Dave is a prick. Lol. Why do you think the band is so often called Megadave? Cause he has one of the biggest egos in the business. Nobody can stand to work with him long enough to stick around. It's just a revolving door of band members through the years. If they didn't kick Dave out when they did... we might not have either band. They might have just fallen apart completely and the face of metal would be completely different. All because Dave is a douche. Great guitarist. Great song writer. Used diaper of a person.
Let's not forget, Dave booted Nick Menza from the band two days after having surgery. OVER THE PHONE. Nick said something along the lines of "You can't fire me man... this is my band, too". Dave said "No... this is my band and this is what's happening". So let Dave bitch and moan all he wants about being fired from Metallica for being a scum bag. He's gonna cry about it for the rest of his life. But he's fired guys from Megadeth for no reason at all. Megadeth is his solo project. He's never seen it as a collaborative effort. No. It's a stupid lie that people who don't understand drumming tell. Mike Portnoy and Dave Lombardo agree that Lars is a great drummer, so why are you taking the word of an imbittered crackhead?
That depends on what you define as "good". If writing some of the greatest and most memorable drum arrangements in the history of heavy music and inspiring some of the best drummers to start playing means you're a terrible drummer, then so be it.
this is the happiest ive ever seen dave mustaine in an interview. It always makes me laugh how Dave never refers to Ron as Ron dave only calls him "the bass player" lol
Metallica grew and evolved, Dave got stuck in a sound that is now very dated, don't get me wrong all the Deth from the 80's and 90's I love, even Super Collider was really good, but last album just lost me, that and Gears of Bore!
Such an untrue statement. So nobody should evolved , always stick to what you are when you hit 20 years of age, forever. Maybe that's the problem with society these days: adults who keep on acting like teenagers...while Metallica evolved. That's why I can't stand AC- DC BTW, if ever there is a band that never reinvented itself there they are, yet people are crazy about them; I don't get it my friend.
I wish Dave was able to find acceptance and peace about the whole situation sooner. He is a really good dude (minus the alcohol of course) and it always hurt my heart seeing how much it hurt him. Beyond Metallica, he still created some of the most amazing, energetic, and enduring metal out there. The genre wouldn’t be complete without his contributions.
But can you blame him? Imagine being woken up and the first thing they tell you is “you’re out of the band“. You’re still disorientated from waking up earlier than you should, and they say that. To make matters worse, they give him 30 minutes to grab his gear so that they can take him to the bus station which is going to take him back to California. That’s a pretty shitty way to do that to someone.

Outside of James, no other band member from the original line up could have left Metallica and formed another band anywhere near as successful as Megadeth. That's a testament to Mustaine's talent.
