Put two bands together sold 60 million Albums, awesome guitar 🎸 player, awesome song writer, sick 😫 riffs created, awesome guitars 🎸, etc, etc 😎I think 🤔 he's a legend, MEGADETH RULZ, MEGADAVE RULZ, MEGAFAN 4EVER 💯🇵🇷🎸✌👊🤞🤘
I've been around drug users etc. enough to be fairly convinced Dave is on some shit here. I've NEVER seen him speak so fast and with that positive tone.
he was pretty happy around 2008, you get this vibe from many interviews around that time. United Abominations was a killer record, Ellefson got back on board a year later, it was indeed a second spring for Megadeth.
"Am I guitar hero? Yes, I am a legend." Its amazing how Dave sometimes jokes and states the absolute reality at the same time. And this is a legendary interview, when Dave used to talk openly and without any restrains.
"I sold 40 million albums with Metallica"... Umm, no they stole a few riffs off you. Then there's the gem "I was begging, I paid my dues" 🙄 Is there a puke emoji?
@@isopropyltoxicity A lot of people just don't get it, either because they weren't there, or they just don't know their stuff as well. Or because they are more into later stuff. But for the real metallers, we know how vital Dave was to the band.
@John Williams I never made an issue over the religious thing. I like Trouble, and they have songs that talk about God and Heaven and all that, but I love Venom and Bathory too. I'm curious to see what Dave has in store for us.
He could be on about the times he overdosed. He's mentioned in other interviews that he's had near fatal drug use and was declared dead. He also attempted suicide in 1993
Am I the only one that’s just speechless because of the quality? It’s a 12 year old video, but it looks like it was filmed yesterday! It’s so weird watching a young Dave, where he looks like he’s in 2020.
His guitar playing is insane. This guy been in the trenches of life and don't think for a second he didn't fight and work his ass off to be LEGEND. RESPECTED
Man, according to Daves book this is around the time he was in rehab and Pam has asked for a divorced and Megadeth was basically over at this time. I don’t know if Dave was on drugs during this interview but he seems really happy, but in the book he describes it as a bad time in his life, he’s really able to hide the things he’s going through. Dave is a fighter man, still kicking ass.
Yes! I couldn't do without Kirk, but I'd find space for Dave. Fuck Lars. Though I respect him, I really do, but he doesn't really fit the band of virtuosos. Well, compared to him. I love Kirk, but losing Dave was a big blow. I get that he was probably an alcoholic ass back then, though. I can identify. But still. I like the guy.
@@Daedalus-ed5nd Lars didn't fit in Metallica ... Ok And Justice for Drum parts and composition are virtuosity. Lars composed Blackened main guitar riff. You can not say "I'm not juding any body " and you're a better person and consistantly talk shit on Metallica. I love Dave but he always was a Dick. Sorry. You can tell stupid thing on ANYBODY using these drunk or teenagers fooleries If it is all he has to say it never change what all the industry says about Lars: the nicest person in this business. (Mike Portnoy.Dave Lombardo.) But abviously you can kick a dog (and he'll still like you) but not kick him from the band... (He thought that it was Lars' decision)
@@michaelromeo9567 1: Lars seems like a dick, agreed. 2: I love "...And justice for all". 3: Dave also seemed like a dick, at least when he was drinking. 4: I also respect Lars for what he is and has done. 5: I still don't quite feel that he fits.
Merci
This is a great interview, Dave is really open about his mindset here. Love when he describes playing music as becoming a WEREWOLF or a VAMPIRE, which he always reminded me of on stage. A genuine Legend, hope he lives as long as count Dracula
Isn’t that accepted truth now? Considering his mistakes on stage and his technique in general... Not saying he’s particularly bad, just what’s there about him today to make him exceptional?
That's is not savage, it's the truth. As a drummer Lars is not only unexceptional he is bad and as a human being he is a waste of space. I used to work for the company that supplied Metallica's lighting and stage sets and IMO Lars is an oxygen thief. James is ok ...as long as Lars isn't in the same room. Back in '89 or '90 I was on tour with Megadeth and Testament as part of the road crew and Dave is a really nice guy if a bit troubled. Good to hear he got over his drug thing! He liked them a bit too much and he wasn't all that choosy as long as he got off his head.
Dave's a total badass! I don't know many people that are that genuine. He is, however a very emotional person so I guess that makes him quite unpredictable, but also very interesting, which is why his interviews are always so divergent. I guess the guys from Metallica never really got him. It's like he puts it: You're young, there's a lot of substance abuse and people collide because of it.. Shit happens. Of course in this interview he's grown emotionally and a lot more put together than in the old days, because for a lot of years he litterally wanted to bury James and Lars. The thing I really admire about him is his endurance. He really is a fighter and a survivor who fought many battles, including one against cancer recently and I guess he had to learn some lessons the hard way along the way because they did not teach him much at home. But it takes a man to be this straightforward and open about your past and the way you've experienced it. Really quite a character! Hope to enjoy his music for many more years; It has been around 25 years thus far so I must be getting quite old as well ;-)
@@jasoncurry207 But come to realize it's closer to like 28 years. Countdown to Extinction was my first Megadeth album as a 13 year old and Rust in Peace my second. Both 2 of my favourite Megadeth albums.. Guess Rust is still my actual favourite, mainly because of its awesome riffs, cold/gulf war era theme and of course, Marty's epic solos :-)
I actually cried after watching this as his childhood story is pretty much similar to mine. The same heartbroken feeling I had as a kid and still have when I get to the thoughts of my childhood and teen period of time. Thanks to him for speaking it out and letting people know they're not the only ones through this kinds of stuff. The most inspiring man I know.
One of the best interviews I’ve seen with Dave. More about the openness of Dave. You can tell the way he’s talking that he’s telling the truth.. he’s like “fk it! Let it all out “.
And a year after that he was diagnosed with throat cancer. The man upstairs does not play around. In Dave's words though, it is speculation. But it is eerie how those type of things connect so easily. It is very possible that Dave didn't tell the whole truth about the "hex" he put on the guy for physical damage. That person could well have been for a member of Metallica, which wound up being Cliff Burton. Not only was his leg completely destroyed, but he died in that bus accident. This is the excerpt that describes the unexplainable coincidences and events that occurred that day from his Wikipedia page: In Sweden, on the Damage Inc. tour in support of Master of Puppets, the band members complained that the sleeping cubicles on their tour bus were unsatisfactory and uncomfortable. To decide who received pick of the bunks, Kirk Hammett and Burton drew playing cards.[16] On the evening of September 26, 1986, Burton won the game with an ace of spades, thereby getting the first choice of bunk. Burton turned to Hammett and said "I want your bunk"; Hammett then responded, "Fine, take my bunk, I'll sleep up front, it's probably better up there anyway." Burton was sleeping shortly before 7:00 a.m. on September 27 when, according to the driver, the bus skidded off the road (the E4, 12 miles (19 km) north of Ljungby),[17] and flipped onto the grass in Kronoberg County.[18] Burton was thrown through the window of the bus, which fell on top of him and killed him. The bus driver said that the crash was caused by the bus hitting a patch of black ice on the road, but James Hetfield later stated that he first believed the bus flipped because the driver was drunk. Hetfield also stated that he walked long distances down the road looking for black ice and found none. When local freelance photographer Lennart Wennberg (who attended the crash scene the following morning) was asked in a later interview about the likelihood that black ice caused the accident, he said it was "out of the question" because the road was dry and the temperature around 2 °C (36 °F), above the freezing point of 0 °C (32 °F). This was confirmed by police who - like Hetfield - also found no ice on the road. Ljungby detective Arne Pettersson was reported in a local newspaper to have said the tracks at the accident site were exactly like ones seen when drivers fall asleep at the wheel. However, the driver stated under oath that he had slept during the day and was fully rested; his testimony was confirmed by the driver of a second tour bus that was carrying the band's crew and equipment.[17] The driver was determined not at fault for the accident and no charges were brought against him.[19]
@@watchlistenlearn YOU should have gone to rehab!! (Just kidding, you don't need to I don't think. Unless you think it's a problem, but that's up to you. I don't think it is. You're not hurting anyone so it's probably fine).
Good interview at a very interesting time of his life: divorce (which never ended up happening in the end). A brilliant mind, a true metal icon. My teenage years’ idol. God bless you Dave Mustaine 🙏🏻❤️
He’s definitely one of my guitar hero’s. I’ve listened and tried to play back several megadeth songs growing up. His riffs show the dedication he has to his craft, a master.
whow exactly the same. Metallica is more boring now fo me and Megadeth has plenty of cool riffs and soli to learn. besides, I seem to have seen an interview with Lars who said that his son preferred to listen to Megadeth more
@@berniedenhaut4803 I've those first 4 albums and appreciate the Black album, but even Death Magnetic bores me. As for Megadeth, Dystopia was a great album, as were the few before it. I love Dave's subject matter, too. He's waking people up
Dave Mustaine is still alive....... And well.!
Salutations musicales.
You know whats cool, if you learn piano and get a general feel of the notes and scales and if you can read music you can pretty much learn any instrument
Dave is one of the few people who can call himself a legend and nobody really disagrees with him. I’m reading his book now and when I read the part about how Metallica fired him and how they went about it, I could feel the despair reading his words. But then he went and pulled himself up out of that hole and created one of the greatest bands in metal. Not many people have that type of endurance and magic. He found a pamphlet on the bus ride home that stated “The arsenal of megadeath can’t be rid no matter what the peace treaties come to”. If that wasn’t a sign from the universe then I don’t know what would be.
I discovered MEGADETH in 6th grade in the 80's! HELL YEAH DAVE'S A LEGEND! Credit to being a member of Metallica wrote killer riffs and songs with them. Then rises from the ashes started "The State of The Art Speed Metal Band" MEGADETH!! Survived all the shit and still here.
Pretty sure he said he was on drugs here. This point in his career was one of his lowest. After all, nobody talks about a divorce and moving from your kids that happily unless you're on something to make you not think about it.
Dave your absolutely a legend, the first time I seen Megadeth they were the opening band for Alice Cooper & I left the show with a Megadeth shirt & it never ended from there
This is a great interview. Dave is right on with his talking to God daily. Christianity is a relation with God through a Jesus. It’s not a religion thing. None of us are worthy. To religious groups the church is often a building. In the the Bible the church is the people because there was no building. A relationship with Jesus is what it is all about.
I can understand Dave's cynicism and anger, because he had it rough growing up and he really has been hurt. All that pent up emotion went into Megadeths music which made them brilliant. He was the best guitarist in Metallica hands down Hetfield a close second but only in rhythm, the man is a legend. God he looks in his mid 70s now. A genius. Thanks Dave for the music 🎶.
He had surgery and a metal plate put into his neck in 2012 which made his voice deeper Years of head banging destroyed parts of his neck then the cancer did it’s damage
Every time I hear Dave being interviewed the more I like the guy. Just straightforward about everything, no bullshit no filler just telling it how it is. Fucking love this guy
love how he went from bein super energetic and happy explaining his dental work, to being a legend, to dissing lars, to basically child abuse and satanism. Thanks Dave, very cool.
I love the way you are Mr Mustaine, thank you, I still remember the riffs of Holy wars I learnt when I was teenager, the best riffs in heavy metal history
What a wise eyes he has.... ❤ despite all the jokes he tells, other things..., his eyes are always observing and there is calmness in his gaze. Love it.
