His oldest brother got sentenced to life when he was 11. Which brought dave into depression throughout secondary school. Then his oldest brother got sentenced to jail as well. His mum couldn't support them and he nearly became homeless because of that. They were angry at his brother and when he came out, he nearly killed himself. His mum nearly killed herself. His dad is gone. He witnessed his friends getting killed. This guy has been through a lot. You learn all this when you listen to his music. He just expresses his feelings really well. Soon to be one of the greatest musicians in the world. Already in the UK, but soon, in the world!
who else makes a therapy session an album and switches the beats to show how his mood changes in the therapy. Add that to the crazy bars and the way he floats on the beat. no one doing this in the uk. this is why dave can go global
I could write an essay on this song. He answers the opening questions, in the last line of the song. The music changes up to reflect his different moods, hence Psycho. The wordplay is incredible throughout too many to list here. The line, 'Brother I'm a careful, humble, reckless, arrogant, extravagant Nigga probably battlin' with manic depression' is so powerful for me he is talking about how black males can be more than just one thing, and complex and contradictory, contrary to a lot of media reports, and the fact he takes on mental health. So good he deserves all the acclaim that comes his way.
all tea all shade the guy is made of legend genes the guy is so good it's dangerous deep full on he takes question literally , guides us through his music he special
As a Black man diagnosed with a chronic depression, this song hit me on a deep personal and emotional level. And I’m all the more thankful for it : we need more of it in our lives 🥰
Georgia Jade you’re probably white. If you were black you’d fully understand and feel the lyrics from black and know that was the best song on the album
bradders344 although black was a deep song there’s way better songs than that like environment, Psycho, screw face capital and Lesley and no I’m not white I’m black
The way he adjusted the tone of the music to the lyrics in the song just gave me goosebumps. For example only playing the piano when he’s talking about his depression and then adding the sax when it gets a bit hopeful then the drums and the back up singers when he gets inspirational... just a masterpiece
So, I am a helpline advisor to people who struggle in life. I often use Daves line, only when the person is in the right place to hear, that suicide doesn't stop the pain it only moves it. People welcome that thought when they are ready.
@Dump Turds you're backwards if you honestly can say the us scene is better than the UK😂 Drake is your biggest rapper and he was begging a Dave colab when man was 17
@@angus1682 no one is denying lyrically dave isn't good . It's just that when you listen to lyrical rappers from America they are different levels from the best uk rappers. Maybe to you his better because his more relatable I get that but as my guy said just of the top my head with out digging deep there are at least 50 man who would spin dave . And I'm saying that and my favourite rapper is youngs tef
Unbelievable. He’s on different levels to any other rapper currently. Lesley, Psycho, Gods eye, hangman just cannot be compared to anyone else’s effort in the entire world
Thegamesss T the only UK rappers I got ahead of Dave currently are Kano, Wretch 32, and JME but the only one out of that 3 that even comes close to Dave musically is Kano
Sit back and watch this guy go all the way to the top, the sky is the limit for this guy. The best lyricist the UK has produced. Well deserved its just started
I'm here with David This is our first session We're just gonna talk about your background Where you're from, any issues you've been dealing with So, where should we start? Look Stop all the pain How do you stop all the pain, huh? I used to hear a voice when I was praying But nowadays, I don't even wanna be saved Nah, fuck that, I don't wanna be saved I was born to be wild, I don't wanna be tamed Talent's in my blood and I don't wanna be vain But if I'm a psycho, then I don't wanna be sane I used to dream of this shit when I was hopping on train So, so bad, I used to want all the fame My ex-girl want to shoot a cover for Vogue Which is pretty ironic 'cause she's top of the range If any one of you take a shot on a track My niggas come back and put a shot in your frame Easy as the alphabet Three G's in the ring, call me Alvarez My teacher used to say I need counseling Couldn't stop asking me, "What do you feel?" There's so many old scars that they wanna reveal We got off on the wrong foot 'cause I don't want him to heal, nah But if you're looking for a psycho, you got one I thought I had a screw loose but I lost one Ninety-nine problems, money, it is not one My currency's Kenyan, that's in it for the long run, huh Tears on a pillow Bro, I shed so many tears on a pillow I used to tell my teachers that nobody gets it I don't know Clarke but I know that I'm a Kidult 'Cause my mummy ain't been home, miss thinks I'm involved Blame my environment, it made me a sicko Furthermore, I should bring that bitch down to Streatham And then make her spend a day in a veil like a widow Kiddo, we seen swords longer than a limo My bros are blacksmiths like Jaden and Willow Man, there's weapons over here, we're reppin' over here We're from the Southside but it's Streatham over here No telling if you're selling, hold the wettin' over here Get him over here, who the fuck is checkin' over here? Most my niggas are the ones applying pressure over here Fuck assault, I can get a nigga peppered over here, whoa We wanted more, then some food on the strip or moving a brick My niggas went to school with the rich and we were broke Hiding crow in a Rubicon drink Which is funny 'cause that's how we put food in the fridge So, who am I? Someone tryna live his best life I just wanna take a pretty woman for a test drive If I bring her to my room and I press, I Guarantee she gonna see the force like an ex-wife People tell me I'm a little bit barmy For my army, I need a bottle of Bacardi If it's me and a pouch with my dargy Shawty, you're seeing two stars in the party Fuck what you heard I'm a pop boy and I ain't giving man a turn I don't wanna know a pretty woman wanna flirt Learned you can judge a nigga by the women that he curves I love this game, I ain't lost focus I'm a hitmaker, if you ever noticed I could be the rapper with the message like you're hoping But what's the point in me being the best if no one knows it? Brother I'm a careful, humble, reckless, arrogant, extravagant Nigga probably battlin' with manic depression Man, I think I'm going mad again It's like I'm happy for a second then I'm sad again And to my fans, the reason I could get to this You're my drug, the instrumental my therapist Man, I need some therapy My girl saying that she'll never leave I'm scared she gonna find a better me Deeper insecurities, like What if I don't leave a legacy? Money, why they check for me? Mummy lost respect for me I wish that we could be together but that ain't how life works I used to cry about my dad until my fucking eyes burnt Nose running, you don't know nothing Before I put a penny on the table, I provided for my family Held my mother's hand through the agony, hey You ever fall 'sleep 'case you don't wanna be awake? In a way, you're tired of the reality you face? If you're thinking 'bout doing it Suicide doesn't stop the pain, you're only moving it Lives that you're ruining Thoughts of a world without you in it, hiding I ain't psycho but my life is
The way he turns his thoughts into words... that's beautiful It's so weird (and beautiful at the same moment) how we all feel things in different ways, that's just life
@@crispycharcoal9640 I rate Dave highly. My point is that he has countless complex bars that people sleep on then gas up the obvious wordplay. It's laughable
Absolutely straight talk . No frills this is a phenomenon epic artist who & loves the world , the people , is using the platform in the absolute respectful way . People around the world need to get this is truly blessed person ❤️👌🏽
Yes Santan Dave well deserved my guy congratulations on winning the Hyundai mercury prize award belive !! . Psycho is best track off album Pyshcodrama by far and wit Top Boy back wit a bang 💥 he's been doing bare bits new this year was gonna blow up for him ! . Blessed yeah my G I'm out peace . ✌🇬🇧🎧💯👏👏
This genuinely one of the best live performances' I've ever seen.. the song on the album was great.. it was already one of my fav songs on my fav album (production&genius wise).. but watching this.. with the saxophone = A whole other level. How can you watch this and not think: He is the next 'modern times' poet? If you disagree.. I dont mind.. You clearly dont get that this lad is special..he has been since he was 16.. Even in 50 years time.. when I may be 80+ years old.. I'll always be so proud that Santan Dave who was from: 'Streatham over here' :) won the TOP awards in 2019.. 2019 & 2020 were his years... give me another artist that delivered what he did????????????
Hands down one of the best rappers right now. Dave us not just a one hit maker, he keeps coming out with bangers one after another. Personally I think he's the next cadet. Not saying the legend cadet isn't the goat but in the sense as he can do emotional storytelling songs and then also do songs like the one with stormzy. Just like cadet(rip🙏) hes very versatile.
Best in the game. Him and slowthai are using their platform and their limitless talents to discuss and elevate serious issues on big and small levels. Absolute credits to the game.
I discover IDLES a month ago, and feel like I’ve been rewarded for my find for being introduced to Dave, Slowthai, Fontaines. Sheesh. The tunes across the pond are so much better.
Too MUCH, what a Artist so clever with word play and language. UK is doing it in the music scene least its something we are doing well in UK and proud of🔥👏🏾🇬🇧
I am absolutely so blessed to have witnessed this wonderful switch that from day one was like “ ya can not better that .But Santandave is next level he is the true definition of masterpiece upgrades because he only has to be recognised for this was so sick , that it is absolutely priceless, may he reach the goal ,🎯💯🎷kills it simply sensational inspirational . unforgettable experience unique end off...
This is AMAZING, the wordplay, storytelling... he nailed it, reminds me of Guru or Tupac. On another note, dear mixing engineer, WHAT'S UP? With all the mix splits going on did you lose his vocal microphone? the backup sounds fine but his voice is just all the way down like it is complimenting the sax instead of the other way around!
Watch the picture me video at joules Holland , then watch this two years later and see how much confident he is and how far he’s come in such a small space of time
