But you'll have a 2n sporophyte on your hands. There's your gender (please excuse my inferring gender from biological sex, I see you). The plant is capable of producing flowers with male and female parts. These are called bisexual or "perfect" because once upon a time scientists saw beauty in monecious plants. It must have seemed to them angelic or perfected somehow for one organism to contain both sexes and be able to self fertilize and produce viable seed. Simply "potato head" seems perfectly adequate to me. But also its hunk of plastic that's just another lightning rod for human hatred and insecurity.

Hearing him abruptly stop mid sentence as he realizes he’s dismantling his own stupid argument is just amazing. Though I must say, while I support Potato Head being “gender neutral” and think it should have been from the beginning, the way Hasbro is doing and announcing it feels like they’re just jumping on the bandwagon instead of actually caring. I’m sure there’s probably an internal cost saving benefit to the “rebrand” and they’re just taking advantage of the current cultural climate to bolster their social standing and boost sales.

As a kid playing with potato head in the late 70s and early 80s once both me and my sister had one the first thing we did was to mix and match the gender parts . It’s one of the few things to do with that toy as it isn’t exactly the most complex toy. Next you went advent guard artist and put eyes in ear holes and ears in nose holes etc... it was all that their was to do with that toy . Shockingly my own kids did the same thing . It’s almost as if it is how kids have sissy’s played with that toy

These people need to read the press release...they haven't changed the toy at all. The company just decided to use the generic "PotatoHead' name from now on since you could already switch gender or whatever...it's still Mr, Mrs, and Baby Potatohead parts. Also, "What's next?! GI JANE?!" Literally happened 40 years ago from the same toy company. They revamped GI Joe and added more minority and female characters, this is the version the popular cartoon was based on and interestingly enuff NO ONE had a problem with it. But I can imagine some folks losing their minds if it just came out today.

They only changed the branding of the general product name to reflect what they sell tho, not the actual name of the specific toys of Mr and Mrs potato head.

I don't get why conservatives are so insistent on calling them potatoes. Biology is very clear on the definition of a potato, and that toy is very clearly a hollow lump of plastic. Not many people are brave enough to say so, but most agree with me when I say biology still matters, and while I suppose these conservatives can call the toys what they like while in the privacy of their own homes, I for one refuse to support their delusion.

Honestly, I thought changing Mr. Potato Head to just Potato Head was silly. But Dave Rubin and Fox News actually gave good reasons why the change was necessary. Potatoes do not have a Gender. You can put either the Mr. Potato Head or Mrs. Potato Head accessories on any Potato Head Toy, and you can mix and match. Sam's right it is a very genderfluid and occupational fluid toy.

My boyfriend works for a toy distributor, and he says that Hasbro has been moving away from gendering toys for awhile. For instance, the Nerfs are no longer labelled as "boy's toys." They're just toys. Of course, they still have marketing campaigns that target certain populations, which might include gender. Don't get me wrong - Hasbro is far too large a company to be good, but I do like this.

Simultaneously saying that potato head was already gender neutral but being mad that the name was changed to be gender neutral is peak reactionary cognitive dissonance.
