FXX’s new series DAVE is centered on a neurotic man in his late twenties who has convinced himself that he’s destined to be one of the best rappers of all time. There were a few guys I'm not a fan of on the 2016 XXL cover...but two of the most multi-talented artists of the decade both came in the same year between Dave and Denzel. Those two always deliver.

For those who don't know, Gata is actually Dave's real hype man. He is also actually Bi-polar. The tears were good acting plus his actual life experience from dealing with this issue. Luckily for us, he decided that he was okay with, and wanted to share this with his audience. Thanks, Gata.

All i can say is that this show subverted every expectation I had, in the best way possible. I mean, you listen to Dicky's music and hear he has a TV show coming, what do you expect? For me, it was something that would be funny and well done, but ultimately juvenile. By this point in the series I already knew it was much, much more than I'd been anticipating, but as someone who is severely bipolar, this elevated it to another level. Homeland and Shameless are really the only other shows I can think of that portray bipolar disorder, but for whatever reason, this scene was streets ahead of all the other sequences dealing with the topic in those other shows. Also, there's a reference to another show in this comment. Whoever finds it gets a free book.

One of the best scenes of the show. Saw Gata’s post on twitter about how this has affected his life and really thought this was a perfect way to bring a light to mental illness. Plus the acting is incredible. Love the show, can’t wait for more episodes. Look forward to it all week

You guys don’t understand how powerful this scene is. I am a musician and i have bi polar for almost all my life. Having a episode is scary. You attack the people you love sometimes and you dont even realize it. Being called crazy... its never on purpose. Its something you have to understand and live with everyday. I have ups and many downs, i take the same meds as Gata in the show and this hit me real hard. Definitely my fav episode so far in the series. This shows that not even a mental illness can stop you from being who you want to be. And being around HEALTHY friends/ relationships, that understand you.

I almost skipped this show because I thought it was just going to be a low-brow, dirty comedy. But luckily I didn’t and I got to see a show that depicts deep personal issues and personal trauma in a realistic way. From the problems of peer pressure, to overcoming abusive friends, to bad self-image, to mental health problems, this show knocks these themes out of the park.

I could tell as the episode was unfolding that GaTa was dealing with bipolar disorder. THANK YOU to the actor for presenting the issue with honesty and sensitivity, and for sharing his story, which I know many of us as sufferers can relate to. Even when you can see GaTa returning to a manic state (which, tbh, a lot of us enjoy), he makes himself take his meds and acknowledges his condition with his friends/colleagues. And their support, if a bit awkward from being caught off guard, is heartening to see. For other bipolars out there, make sure you take your meds tonight! Keep your appointments, take accountability, and love yourself and others. Thanks GaTa and Lil Dicky for this spotlight on mental illness.

My mom is bipolar. Been on lithium and other beahvioral meds for 20 years. It took my family to some dark places when i was 10-12 years old. We still have a long way to go with mental health but stuff like this can be so uplifting for people struggling and scared to talk about it. Thank you so much Gata

It's tough to live with. I think borderline personality disorder is even harder ad there isn't even really treatment for it. And the two are often confused and share some symptoms. So even sometimes said BPD, its actually borderline not bipolar. I'm lucky mine is fairly manaable and I tend to fall in the manic side. It's nice to hear people talking about this stuff opening. It sucks that they're are just some places you can't. Like a work function. It may jeopardize your job.

Something about this scene is just so powerful. It’s not complex or super emotional but the way Gata delivered those lines just slices you so deep. I’m not one to get emotional over watching movies or tv shows but this scene really hit me hard like not other show has ever done to me. And I have seen a ton of shows. Gata deserves an award for this.

I love this scene, it made me glossy eyed how they all accepted him after he opened up. But what is so sad to me is that when people open up like this, they are often met with disdain and shunned. I myself am autistic, but I don't tell people unless I feel comfortable enough, which is rare. Because in the past, when I told people, they often reacted negatively and treated me differently. Or they lost interest in being my friend. So now I just try to act as normal as possible and keep it to myself. However, this makes me feel like I can't be myself around people. That I always have to pretend to be normal around others. I can be in a room full of people and still feel lonely, because I can't just be myself.

This episode made me cry so hard. Having an episode is so hard because you can't help it half the time, and sometimes don't even notice it's happening until someone close to you is affected. It truly makes me feel crazy, to feel like you have no control over your emotions feel so scary. I'm happy it's being represented in media so accurately. ✊

by far one of the best TV moments we've gotten.. and we've gotten a lot of them thus far. Donald Glover did a great job in highlighting the subtleties of Mental Illness through it's nuances and what not in Atlanta - first season particularly, but the way this scene in DAVE brings it due to the real-life representation of a credible messenger in such a key element, to inspires the many that can turn to the most? man... this is what humanity should be about. #Authenticity2020TilInfinity
