This showdown reminds me of the Weckl, Gadd, Colaiuta showdown. But now Weckl is like Colaiuta in his display of insane power, speed, and musicality, and Mayer is like a combination of Weckl and Gadd.

Weckl's playing has loosened up dramatically from the early days. A flowing river of brilliance in syncopation.

I came here for the drummers, but let's give it up for Chrissi Poland, too.

Weckl has refined his technique to levels beyond any other drummer. Im not saying he’s the best drummer bc that, like music/sound is subjective, and even technique is subjective, but not subjective are levels of refinement, and the breadth thereof. Weckl IMO has a higher level of refinement ‘all around’ than any drummer that’s existed, his refinement range is unmatched, the band so to speak is wide.
