Okay I'm sorry that happened but that's not Church doctrine. People need to understand that what your mom did is the opposite of what the Church teaches. Do not equate the two things. They are not the same.

​@@Lazerbadger2 While the above cases are on the extreme end, and don't represent every family situation, the Mormon church absolutely has a culture of shaming and othering those who won't get in line. A few conferences ago, Russel M Nelson said "There is no end to the adversary’s deceptions. Please be prepared. Never take counsel from those who do not believe." This is a shaming tactic. It's low-key shunning. He's urging members not listen to the ideas of those who leave. Imagine if you followed your honest conviction to leave the church, and your family no longer took your words or counsel seriously. It's dehumanizing and invalidating. The church absolutely teaches that those who leave are less than, dangerous, and deceptive.

The Christian faith is about a relationship with Jesus, He was about teaching & showing unconditional love.

Think Celestial. That comes DIRECTLY from the “prophet”. It ABDOLUTELY is taught from the leaders.

@@AQuinn-my3qt I can (sadly) not that happened to me, but uncle's were disowned as kids. Not for being LGBTQ. However, they were still kicked out by my grandmother just because she regarded her kids as nuisances. And regardless of the reason, I saw what being kicked out did to one of them. The other unfortunately died before I was born. But having seen what that can do to a person. I can honestly say there is no excuse for disowning your kids.

My mom left about a year after I did. My husband hasn’t been so lucky. We got written out of the will and basically downgraded to second class citizens in his family. They call us Lamen and Lemuel behind our backs. It’s absolutely awful that their religion teaches them to be horrible people.

If you don't know a single one in your family, then statistically they're in the closet, and it's because they haven't felt comfortable telling their truth because of the Mormon culture. That silence should be deafening and tells us all we need to know.

In the lds church the truth is that FAMILIES ARE NOT FOREVER.

I am a latter day saints and feel so much love from my Parents, Family, wife, and church members, and I know it is without conditions. I am sorry if you had a different experience from mine.

@@LGAEspino69 No, the LDS Church does NOT accept him as he is. They refuse to accept that he has as much right to whatever love, comfort and companionship he can find with another human being as anyone else. The LDS Church offers David two choices: Enter into a sham marriage with a woman he will never truly love in the way that she deserves to be loved (he's had three failed engagements) because it isn't in him to do that and it never will be, or live a life of solitude, for no reason other than that someone else doesn't approve of who and how he loves. He once spoke in an interview of a conversation he had with one of the LDS Apostles (good luck getting that kind of connection if you're not an LDS celebrity, BTW) in which he was told at least three times that what he needed to do was to find a good Mormon girl and get married. David tried to tell the man that that wasn't a solution but he Would. Not. Listen. The Apostle didn't understand David and didn't want to. Nor does much of the Church hierarchy. Bottom line, the Church FAILED him.

I think church nowsaday need REVOLUTIONS, by accepting the false and someone feel left, short, and don’t belong…. Because they still God Children, Even Jesus said John 8:7 “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”, we can not judge people! But we can help them feel home and feel God presence

In my opinion, David’s Mom not only failed her son at the time she needed to be a lovingly stern mother but she failed Her God and Her Church Community as well. Very very sad.

He wasn’t denigrating an entire religion. In fact he didn’t mention what specific religion in the song or after when he talked about it.

It is specific mormon doctrine that him and his mother would be separated in heaven, that is just true
