I graduated from high school in 1966 and had family and friends that went to Vietnam. This song is very special and I cry every time I hear it. May God bless every man and woman that served in the military and those serving now.
God that hit home real hard. Miss my dad, he served 2 years in vietnam and he told me his "welcome home" he got when he came home 😢😢😢😭😭😭 Thank you did your service from the bottom of my heart, thank you
I am a double tour vietnam vet turned 73 last July. I have received more respect in the Midwest than any where I have lived to all Afghanistan vets thank you for your service with respect J Gordon
As a young man who served in the U.S. Army, I respect your obligation to duty and service. My grandfather always told me yall didn't get the return home that yall deserved. I am sorry that happened.
Thank you for your service I am on my 2nd year as a U.S Marine. I'm getting ready to 21. I couldn't be more thankful for you and many more who have paved the path for me and my brothers and sisters. Once again thank you
@@venetabritt2771 If the enemy is shooting at you it is either you kill them or they kill you or bow down to your PTSD so they take you POW and gamble on rather or not they'll have mercy on you and just see if they care about your god damn stupid PTSD disorder.
This song is so beautiful. I am a proud daughter and mom of a Marine. I am also the wife of a Soldier. My dad is a Vietnam Veteran who will be 76 this year. I am so thankful for their service. 💜🙏🏽

No matter how many times I listen to this song I can’t make it through the first minute before the tears begin to run! Not only for those who gave their lives, but for friends that came back and were never the same.May God bless them all!❤

I remember my father playing this song all the time as a kid. He raised 3 Marines and one Sailor. He was an incredible man. Wish I didn’t lose him at such a young age. This song and Tim McGraw always remind me of him
..I volunteered for the military and Vietnam... Severed my country...lost hearing in both ears, and damaged both eyes..this was my contribution to freedom...I was 18 then .. now I'm old...and will do it again if called if called..
My grandfather served in the 60's .. he was a sniper and while phsycially he made it home, not all of him did ... a part of him was left in the jungles he fought in. HE had demons.. but the man tought me much... he died 5 years ago after losing a battle with cancer... I was there helping myt grandmother take care of him when it happened.. it happened fast and when i got htere iwas hoping he would teach me how to drive and fish.. many things that in ever got .. but to this day .. when i drive... i smell cigarette smoke, ill forever ride with my grandfather ... and i know he loose out for me still. This goes out otthe vets we have lost , and the soldiers who never fully made it home from war, Thank you. thank you for your service. and for your sacrifice.. may your memories always be honored
Yeah, the "new country" sucks, compared to the beloved classic country. That's why I listen to only classic country and sometimes classic rock music on the radio anymore. I love the classics, music and cars.
Sitting here on memorial day listening to music of yesterday with my wife and this just seemed appropriate. Hats off to the fallen, may you never be forgotten.
It is definitely different the way my grandfather raised me to respect veterans or anyone in uniform. I only wish others would also show them the same respect.
I'm one of those that respects our military veterans and active service members. Before the pandemic I would literally walk up to them shake their hands and thank them for their service in active uniform or with a veteran's cap. One time in a McDonald's I walked up to a man with a world war II veteran hat on. And I said thank for everything you did. He turned to me a tear went down his eye and said I thought everyone forgot it. Some of us will never forget the sacrifices you got turns mate for us no matter which war conflict you served in. One of my best friends is a military vet he was injured in 2002 in Volusia almost lost his arm. He was the only one out of his home he has severe PTSD and survivors guilt. And the traumatic brain injury. I make sure he knows every time we talk that I am so proud of what he did for us. My five children will always know that Uncle Billy serves their country proudly.
@@raisingcrazy745 THANK YOU YOU ARE NOTHING SHORT OF PERFECTION. MY WAR THEY HATED , so did I, BUT NO ONE CARED WHEN WE CAME HOME. Now they say THANKS. that's all we asked. Love u for ur thoughts.
Your example teaches others whether you realize it or not, keep it up! It’s the only way we pass the concept on to those that come after us, and is much needed today!! 🙏❤️🙏
My brother in law past away just 3 days ago active duty when he passed I really thought alot of him and loved him... he sadly passed in a motorcycle accident and this makes me think of him so much RIP William McDonald....
Jesus will soon resurrect your bro-in-law William McDonald, right after Jesus brings Armageddon & restores his God's Kingdom Govt on this earth. Jesus would have removed Satan, the demons & the wicked people. "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." (John 11: 28, 29) Memorial tombs exist only on earth, so this is an earthly resurrection. See also John 11:23-27 this scripture proves that when Jesus returns, those living & doing God's will, will never die at all. (1Tim 2:3-5; John 3:16; John 17:3; Psalms 37:29)
This is one of only a select few songs in the world that can make this grown man tear up every time I hear it. Such an awesome story it tells! Thank you Mr. Ball!!
In 1981 I was 15 and looking for my 1st car. You know, the one every boy dreams of. Some want the chevelle, or camero, maybe mustang. Looking thru the newspaper everyday. One dsy my dad comes home from work and says he thinks he'd seen a car I'd like behind a garage in Tampa and I should look at it. Ok dad, what ever. Oh the porch sat there a much older lady. My dad asked if the car was for sale and she said yes but that it was rather expensive and asked me if I could afford the $75.00 she was asking. I said yes ma'am. When I looked at the tarp covering the big beast of a car. I started to druel, cry, and thought NO WAY. Under the tarp was a 1967 pontiac gto. MY CAR. The old lady would NOT tell me who it had belonged to just that it was time to sell it. I can only imagine.
Back in the early 80,s my wife and I found a 68 firebird 400HO we bought it and drove it until it blew a head gasket started to restore it then had kids so had to sell it I really kick myself for selling it
This song reaches right to my heart. I am a Navy veteran myself. I did two tours to the Persian Gulf. Just hearing this song does make me think about how many veterans left for a war and didn't make it home or those who returned with injuries or emotional traumas that never healed. My hats off to all current and former military members. Thanks for all you have done. There are not enough words or actions to show how much the service of veterans are appreciated except to say thank you for all you have done for everyone
I heard this song when it first came out in 2001 and it brought tears to my eyes.....20 years later it still does. All of you that wore the uniform, allow to say with the utmost of humility.....THANK YOU for the sacrifices you made and those that paid the ultimate price and never made it home. You are my heroes and as long as I draw breath, I will always hold you in the highest of esteem.
I am Canadian and I have relatives that fought and bless the lord survived … my cousin fought in Afghanistan and was there over Christmas we saw him in the special video they showed on the news . My heart goes out to the families of those who fought and continue to fight for freedom and equality. I pray that one day there will be no need for war. 🙏🏼🇨🇦✝️☮️🎖
Lost cousins in Vietnam...I was in 8th grade when Saigon fell...I was an Iraqi vet and my son was in Iraq/Afghanistan...God Bless ALL our soldiers, and Pvt. Malone's....and their Families!!
Love this. Wow! We lost more than 15 fellows from my little city, outside Chicago, over the years of Vietnam. That's the ones I knew of. For all that read this that served THANK YIU. And those who are missing someone that gave all, THANK YOU SO MUCH AND STAY CLOSE TO JESUS. Blessings, julie
I listened to this before one of my deployments and it scared the shit out of me. Years of being fearless, and a song broke it all. Love it. To all of you that never came home, you are GBNF, to those that came back but didn't, WELCOME HOME!
A huge thank you for all of you service men and women who served our country in all of our wars , I respect each and every one of you THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU
hadn't listened to thing song in about 10 years, still has me a hot mess of sympathy for those brothers that never got to come home to see the Nation that they fought so righteously to preserve.
goddamn thats good writing. we take for granted all thats been laid down for us today. keep the pedal down private malone. the streets of heaven have your burn out marks.
Well there's an old Bible saying I once believed in anything you have in life you will have in the afterlife that car May belong to someone else in this world but in the afterlife Malone still burning rubber with a car he loved
Sending love right got a chance to be back stage with the band in Birmingham concert Intriguing singer plus put an electrifying performance did you get to meet the gem?
"But it picked up KBUL especially late at night". A country station in Reno, NV. First time I heard this song I was pullin flatbed haulin a load of shingles from Vegas to Reno on Hwy 95. What a great song. Truckin and country music like this is like apple pie and icecream.
Everything about this song is perfection from it's beautifully written story, and the simplicity of the music and vocals, and the salute to our military heros who have fought for our freedom and especially those who "never made it home" 😞💔
As a vet of Iraqi Freedom i am thankful for all my brothers and sisters who fought and dieded and those who have made it home a struggle i give you all my prayers and thanks for doing what you have done and do. Thank you
1st time I heard this was early AM of September 11 2001 by my radio alarm @ Aprox 0530….I cried. Then a couple hours later the towers fell. SAD DAY BUT WONDERFUL SONG

I have a cousin who is a Vietnam vet. He came home, thank God. My family hasn't lost a serviceman yet and it's something I thank Him for a lot. It also has given me great respect for those who serve, here and abroad. Blessed be the men in uniform.

This song is so touching. One of my uncles was KIA in Vietnam. I still remember I put a flower wreath on his neck when he and his White Horse Division were parading through the main street of Seoul before they were leaving for Vietnam. He never made it back. His last poistion as a ROK army captain was a company commander. A hand grenade exploded near him. He and one of the platoon leaders (first lieutant) in his company were killed. My aunt showed me something she received. One of them was his name tag with his blood.on it. I served two years in ROKA as mandatory requirement, but never in combat. I feel hmbled whenever I hear this song.
David Ball is from the same town I'm from, Kennett, Mo. Also Sheryl Crow's hometown. My daddy delivered mail to Rush Limbaugh's mothers home there. SEMO!
I am thankful every single day for the Vets in my life...my father, my husband and my father-in-law,my uncle and my cousins. Thanks to all of our service men and women for their dedication and for their service. From the bottom of my heart thank you for your time and your sacrifice.
