I thought he was overrated for years. Only realized later the work rate he put in, nevermind his world class free kick ability. His hype in the media outside of football overshadowed what a fantastic player he was.

For a large part of his career he was overrated, he was past his prime at 28. His peak was short also.

The most overrated player I have ever seen. The way English media hyped him up you think he was the second coming of gascoigne. Outside of corner kicks or free kicks he rarely influenced the game. His contributions From open play were average at best. Scholes, Keane, giggs even carrick were far more Influential players for man United. I remember in 2002 when he was dropped and ole gunner solskjaer played the right wing instead of him. Ole played the right wing better than beckham ever did. How beckham was voted thr second best player in the world . I will never know. Even at beckhams best I would say there were at least 10 players in his position who were better than him.
