His shots do look predictable tho he look like a one dimensional fighter but i do believe he do got power you can see in the first 5 rounds before davis was breaking down the flurries david threw only a punch would land cleanly and that was enough for davis to stay tight and since davids defense sloppy you would see davis retaliate back with his own combination that would land on benavidez but he would be fazed by it , david would land at the same time davis does but it was clearly benavidez got power

Benavidez has very good natural strength and physical attributes but those who believe he is a power puncher don't know much about boxing, fighters with true god given punching power don't need to hit an opponent 100 times or more clean to stop them . . . Fighters with True Punching Power include Legends like Hearns, Hagler, Iron Mike Tyson, David Tua, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Joe Louis, Artur Beterbiev, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sonny Liston, Ike Ibeabuchi etc to name but a few . . . Benavidez is not on that level or in that bracket of fighter, period . . . in fact not even close, he is a swarmer and volume puncher with good power and excellent hand speed and combination punching that grinds down opponents with constant pressure by walking them down. Defensively Benavidez is neglectful and severely lacking in skills, he gets hit clean far too often even by average fighters, stepping in with this kind of limited gameplan against the great fighters of the past such as Hearns or Hagler would have resulted in Benavidez getting knocked senseless in very short order . . . if he fought Bivol now at a catchweight he would be clinically picked apart by a vastly superior jab and all round complete boxing skills and if he fought Beterbiev with this constant walk forward style he would get absolutely dismantled inside 4 to 5 rounds maximum, attempting to trade at close range is all well and good when fighting lesser opponents but against a true power puncher it would be a terrible doomed strategy and would almost certainly result in defeat by knockout. Don't confuse what I'm stating here though, it's not that I think Benavidez is in any way bad or that he does not have potential, he certainly does have great potential . . . but he still has many limitations and is far from the phenom or dangerous fighter which many pundits seem keen on making him out to be . . . there are still many more key skills Benavidez needs to hone and master before he can truly be considered an all round complete fighter and potential elite boxer of the future. Some people are not giving Plant much of a chance against Benavidez in this upcoming fight, personally I would say it is a 50/50 fight . . . it is a case of skill versus will and would not surprise me at all if it went either way. 👊👊💯

I agree Haddy, he has to be smarter now, not just the talented kid anymore. If he wants to have really long career he has to be more composed and smarter now. Good fight for both guys. Davis is a tough kid and Benavidez showed him respect when they threw the towel in. Big respect for both fighters. Carnelo has the better mind. We'll will see.

This fight was a short notice replacement. Short notice fights are usually the tougher fights. Benavidez has been wanting the Plant fight for years.
