Looking great Barry! I did all the bits and adjustments your about to get to on your DB, about 2 years ago on my 996. It was quite easy with the help from Ollek on the DB forum but alas he has moved on to great DB farm in the heavens😢. He explained it to me so well it was easy peasy and now my controls are as perfect as they are in my 1594! I love these tractors! Keep up the great work!

Great stuff once again Barry, you can see why the Wheels & Tyres are the very last things fitted on the Tractor Assembly Line. Do you have a Draft Control Cable yet? The component you are making just needs a plain hole, if you look at Shane’s video #18 at 5min 25sec you will see how he fitted his. Good luck with all the settings for the Hydraulics.

Hi Terry, thanks for that I'll check Shanes video, my exploded diag shows a threaded hole and no nut, you right about the wheels thow, theyre a bloody nuisance, it will be worse with the mudguards on. Yes I got a cable last week from ebay, it'll be in the next video. many thanks Barry

Hi Barry. If you check the ends of your cable, the end with the thread and locknut on the outer cable fits onto the Sensing Unit and at the other end the inner cable (which fits in the Ramshaft Bracket) should be slimmer with a thread for the retaining nut. Looking forward to seeing the group 3 setup.

All moving forward to the point where you will soon be able to test out the hydraulics - which for me was the hardest part of restoring my DB as I took several attempts to get the spool valve set correctly with such fine tolerances.. There will be a lot of air in the system and so very important to to bleed that out as 2000 psi on an air lock can burst open pipes, O rings or seals. Most of the air is bled out of the camel's hump cap but as you've had the ram piston out the oil reservoir at the back of the piston will be full of air. The designers have put a bleed ball valve at the back of the piston housing - looks like a grease nipple but actually lets the air out of the rear of the piston. Mine was seized solid and ended up having to drill it out and tap in a new one. But if yours will loosen then when you do fire up the system with the valve chest fully installed then it would be ideal to let the air out of there first and the camel's hump next - not dissimilar to chasing the air out of the fuel at the filters and then the pump. It will happen quickly so crack both open and then when you get oil at the piston close it up then when you get oil at the hump nip that back again. I would recommend doing all this before putting back all the heavy stuff like the drop arms etc just in case something doesn't work and it needs to come off. One day I might get around to getting my 885 to look like it has just rolled off the Meltham production line like your does. Great job!

Cheers Andy, I took my bleed nipple out when I had the axle to bits, as you say it was quite a mess, I put a new ball in and gave everything a real good wash and brush up, all I need now a a couple fo dry days so we can get finished off, fingers crossed, many thanks Barry

Coming along nicely! My round thingy for the draft control is through hole clearanced and has 2 nuts threaded on the end of the cable. Jon and Terry beat me to it! See #18 for a good visual. And how I reinstalled all those bits. 🙂

Hi Shane, already been there, last night was spent watching your video's of you putting it back in, I like the slight turn to fit the control plunger, I might pinch that one, also looked at your draft control thingy, and made one like it this morning, with clearence hole, just need to find two 3/16" BSF nuts now. cheers Shane Barry

Did away with the roll pin and put a nut & bolt in it. Shane was going to do the same as they are a fun to get out. Had a look through my vids for that cable pin could not see it.Can look on the tractor if your stuck. Have fun with all the quadrant settings.M😀

Hi Marshall, I had a look at Shanes and made one with clearence hole through it, many thanks anyway for the offer. the nut and bolt sounds good might just do that, then it makes life easy if it needs to come to bits again cheers Marshall Barry

Great video! I love these old tractors and watching the progress but why did you leave so many parts unpainted?
@manfromthemist1958
@manfromthemist1958 6 месяцев назад
Hi Shane, thats a very simple one to answer, the outside temp dropped and at the time we were desperately short of indoor space to paint and dry, also as I put the tractor back together it became obvious , no matter how carefull i was bits would get chipped, so as I cleaned I would prime to stop rusting but then leave the later parts, as the whole tractor will get painted chocolate again once it's all back together, also all the nuts and bolts would need painting anyway as it's impossible to paint and assemble without taking the paint off the heads. it wasn't till December when I got more space and could paint things like the wheels and quadrant as they where off the tractor anyway. many thanks for the question, barry
