David Dyson is one of my groove heroes so it was a real honor to play his song "Donovan James" with him at the Bass Bash this year at the NAMM show! and his band is KILLING!
Wow is all I can say. Not often do you get your fav bassists together at one time. Two great groovers, players, and great human beings. The world needs more bass players like you two.
I agree.......it never gets old. Damian and David are amazing soloists while never forgetting that the groove comes first. The LoPhat 410 cab is ridiculous and is now the number one choice for my next cab!!! My Goodness!!!!!!!!
a lesson for all musicians. Play with your ears open and your heads up. David nodded yes to go back into the verse but this is where he starts his bass solo. He quickly shakes his head no at Damien for him to lay out. He does it one more time before he gets loose. I can't count the number of times I've jammed with cats who play with their heads down. wake up or you might miss something. I'm nowhere near Damien or Daivd but I play with cats who are working professionals and I always look up
O MY GOD! Dyson strings cut me they are so sharp and bright love it! Damians sound is so smooth and melodical! perfect blend of two different bass sounds.
WOW!!! I love these 2 bassists, have their CD's :¬) it's amazing to see them together. THANK YOU so much for sharing :¬) Seems like all the fun is over the other side of the pond hahahaha
Drummer. Oh my word- what a joy. Bass playing simply fantastic from both you guys- the drummer did an incredible job. Laid it down at the right time during David's solo and reacted with flair during your solo. Great stuff :-)
Sorry if anyone misunderstood me in a previous post. I meant to say that Damien and David are far better musicians and bassists that I ever hope to be. They are looking at each other and communicating, not playing all the time with their heads down or getting so much into it that they lose one another. A lesson that was taught to me by a friend who is a professional drummer and has toured the world. Maybe this is just a lesson for me :-)
Dyson's Skjold sounds great, though I do not care for the look of the headstock. Looks too much like a spoon, imo. He really seems to be in the moment here. Great players like David Dyson can play the same or similar lines over and over without it getting old. I guess that's what having great groove is all about.
Awesome playing from both Damian and David. Am I the only one who can't stand David's tone though? It seems like every modern slap style bassist feels compelled to scoop their low mids way too much for my liking.
I agree upon listening, but 1. That was the first time playing through Lo Phat equipment period and 2. It could also be the phone or camera it was recorded on. Either way..I agree.
I was enjoying it right up "until" the drummer, was too busy, over playing, too much and cymbal crash on the brother on the left solo. to me he should have been more laid back at that point it wasn't about the drums. but overall three great musicians
