The guy talking about Shakespeare's Star Wars sounded like someone from Ennet House.

I find it sad that Dave didn't include 'Soul is not a smithy' as a piece of 'The Pale King'. It clearly belongs in that work! I think it shows how muddled he was about 'his third book' from the period after publishing Infinite Jest to his suicide. He couldn't seem to wrangle the disparate stories into a collective narrative; and yet, the idea that runs behind all these stories (boredom, adult life, mundanity, paying attention, the intimate internal life that is usually unspoken) is the link.

i assumed my restless 48 hours were catching up to me until i forgot about the noise and read this. editors must have been bored like crazy, god knows if i was in the position of culturally forwarding david foster Wallace id fuck around with Reality from all the stress, not just the pitch, maybe id edit a 40X40 clip of an acrobat in there just to see whats up

Is it safe to make a connection between athletics and aggression? Competative sports has the capability to release an athlete but the politics drags the individual back into the thick. I think the intensity may have found a way to empty a floatation device. If DFW never played sports do you think he would still harm himself? I do not think it is a joke when someone talks about doing something harmful and somehow succeeded by doing what he says? Sadly, that is righteous to someone observing and judging with a different lens.
