Such a great episode! You three have incredible chemistry sharing your stories. I genuinely laugh out loud listening to you guys. I hope to see more of you in future episodes. Keep it up guys and thank you!
Listening to them talk about their childhoods is always therapeutic for me, because I went through the same emotional abuse with my asian parents as a girl.
Old fashioned Asian parents always tell their daughter/son that they can only marry other Asians. Though the benefit of being Asian girl/female is it's a lot easier for them to find non-Asian partners. Unlike Asian men who still struggle to get non-Asian partner even to this day. In terms of romance Asian men still have it the worst unfortunately.
Heard this Taxi story 3 different times on 3 different channels and I still never get tired of it 😂. 1st: (Dudes behind the foods) 2nd: (JKnews) 3rd: (Genius Brain) 😂
I LOVE you guys! Heard Joe's version of the taxi ride. It's good to hear yours as well. He wanted to square up. He needs to realize he'll get knocked out. I heard the video but didn't see it, lol. Great video, all! Such great stories.
I’m having an anxious night and I just wanted to thank you David for doing what you do. Your podcast and dudes behind the foods are my comfort podcasts and tonight this has been a great relief. Thank you.
I experienced all of that. 1. Like David, my instructor was from Korea and hardcorw. He was also my uncle. Combat hapkido on wood floors, no mats. I was the demonstration dummy because he didn't want to get sued by the other kids parents. 2. My grandmother's would all check my "pepper" to see how much their family pride had grown.
omg! so i work at a elementary school, and i got pink eye. and dude, i had to miss three days of school, and my parents were mad at me bc i didn't go to school... like its pink eye and i work with preschoolers, i cant go to school like this and possible spread it to them (even tho i for sure got it from them 😒) like yeah i look physically fine, besides my eye, but i cant go to work like this around 3/4 year olds!!! 😑 anyways i love seeing you three together. i look forward to sundays for this podcast 😊
When I heard David's story about the taxi incident in LAX, I kind of thought it sounded familiar to this other podcaster I've listened to talking about their story getting picked up at LAX from an older man who was extremely rude out of no where. Idk if it could be the same guy or LAX just has a reputation of rude taxi drivers The episode was from Emergency Intercome episode 118 and he starts talking about it around 26:17 mins
I can't lie you talking about your taekwondo days got me reminiscing, my master and instructors also hit us with sticks and all of us got medals during tournaments. Cept for me cause I dont go hard on people i dont know. For my friends tho, we'd always come home with hella bruises. One of my boys kneed me so hard he fractured my tailbone and in return I kicked him so hard I broke something in his back and we both had to wait almost a year til we were allowed to spar hard again 😂
Wild, only stereotype I’m still an asshole about is my mistrust for LA Armenians after going to college with one whose parents ran a sketchy mechanic shop. Love hearing the TKD stories, teacher sounds like an asshole (feel like the toxicity was based on insecurity, who the fuck wakes up and chooses violence against kids) xD. I did some breaking exercises, but jumping side kick over two lengths of people seems unnecessary. I was lucky with a sparring oriented school that was more about combat application. Craziest thing I saw was an older brother reverse roundhousing his younger brother and accidentally broke his eye socket. Younger bro had an eyepatch for 3 months. My instructor only picked on me when I was being an asshole (sparring too hard normally). I still remember as a 12 year old the helplessness of a full Nelson from a 40 year old man, I learned that day. Fucked around and found out
The true story behind the SBU episode at 53:11 was the John Money experiment on the Reimer twins. Was lauded as a big success until the kid that was brought up as a girl rebelled, “detransitioned” and later committed suicide
I feel the same way David does about circumcising boys. I now a lot people talk about cleanliness/hygiene but that’s bs. If it’s a part of your religion that’s one thing. Medical issues is 2nd thing if it’s needed. But just cutting boys just because… nah.
Wait in TKD you're only supposed to spar one belt above you? Cause when I did it at 14, I was only allowed to spar black belts while I was a green belt. I was just getting the shit beat out of me once a week lmao
could totally relate when Ed mentioned about the dads uncles/friends grabbing balls when he was younger lmao and i’m latino so i wonder if it’s some weird old generation thing lol
I work at LAX so I remember when I took an lyft to work, the lyft was going to drop me off where all the passengers were and I told him that we were at the wrong side. Fortunately he was nice about it so I let that slide. But the cab operator esp when you talked to their customer service team is RIDICULOUS. Yeah no shit David's in LAX because LAX is huge enough to be it's own entity. Lemme tell you how huge LAX is. LAX is so huge that when I had to get my badge, I needed to get an uber from LAX to LAX. That was really horrible on their part and I'm sorry that you had to go through that. Also the ball touching thing happened to my Korean guy friends too. I think it's more of an older generation thing, lol Edit: I had armenian taxi drivers and idk why but what is it with the drivers looking at your destination at Google maps and just take that as an suggestion and just drive 80mph in an local street. Thank you for letting me come to my destination early but I felt like I was in danger every 2 seconds.
The circumcision talk gave me flashbacks. To Filipinos, it’s called “Tuli” and is seen as a rite of passage towards manhood. I was 12 when I got that shit. Absolute hell 💀
My cousin is a Taxi driver, David Joe & Hannah would be dream customers, The physical sexual harassment is wild, a few times men have grabbed her TG this isn't a daily occurrence. Her regular customers are pretty chill but there is always that one person. 😢It's sad cause she's such a good person She jams with the school kids getting them hyped on the way to school😂 she has an age appropriate play list for them and the elderly to choose from
Favorite "guests". The Eds are a delight. I definitely relate to Ed about not responding well to authority but mixed with huge timidity and anxiety lmaoo. Still working on it. Growing up the adults around me were like David's taekwondo teacher. They all got that rage. And bout the crotch grab/tap.. Viet girl.. here same but by the aunties. And for my bro.. both😅.ours are taps. It was definitely the weird shit that leave us.. like ~baffled~. And the adults would laugh. So i wondered if they just enjoyed the embarrassment while being a strange endearment that we are growing? Idk we buried it.. i did until now🥹
Oh for girls, it was with boobs! My aunt did that to me at a wedding. Got all dressed up lookin all cute and my aunt who came around every once in awhile said oh~ look at her boobs! She is big! (Mind you it was almost yelling) I wanted to crawl under the table!!
