Wow, what a reaction! Look at the discussion this song provoked, such power in Gilmour's music. Even he doesn't know how many hearts he has touched with his music, but such a gift, imagine being able to touch so many by creating art that is both beautiful and truthful. The man bends a few strings and sings a few words and people weep for joy and cry in sorrow, all at the same time. Even when he makes us cry, we only want more. That's the way it's been for me and legions of fans for decades, and it makes me so happy to see people discovering this music for the firs time, knowing it will go on and on.

@bighousegroove
@bighousegroove 10 месяцев назад
@@paulkantor457 I'm going to go one step more. This solo, this show, is better than Comfortably Numb, for me. Maybe it's the context of the song's meaning, his age, the setting in Pompeii, I actually don't know or care to even try to figure it out. But I've seen and listened to this probably 30 or 40 times so far and the tears fall out so easily. This is absolutely his best solo. Until he tops it next time!

The lyrics share the story of a father trying to help a son, home from war, overcome the horrible things he saw and did. Powerful and painful. "God help my son. What has he done?"
@deanadewall8400
@deanadewall8400 10 месяцев назад
I'd heard that it was a mother, and her son was suffering from ptsd. The son eventually killed himself because he couldn't deal with what he'd done and saw. There is an interview with David and Polly about this somewhere out there.

Thanks for sharing - David has the rare gift to connect his instrument to your heart. The first time I heard that song, I just returned back home from hospital where my dad was in his last hours. Turned on the TV and for some reason Live at Pompeii was aired. I knew already the old Floyd live at Pompeii and thought wow he returned back. Did not expect that kind of performance. The first note of the solo, my tears start falling and every time since. The next morning I returned to see my dad and told him about that song and performance (he was a passionate musician) and the emotions it did evoke in me. I told him not to be scared to leave and it might be time to stop suffering all the pain - the next night he passed away.

Only a few are able to transform feelings into guitar sounds. David can do it. You can hear the unspeakable pain. An incredibly poignant masterpiece in an equally incredible live performance. Goose bumps....

Another great reaction, and so appropriate your comments and emotions are. Polly did write the lyrics and has done so on many of David's solo albums, but it must be said that it comes quite easily to her because the words are just below the surface of the music that David has written and played to her. It's almost time for you two to witness 'Echoes" from the Gdansk concert. Cheers!

What guitar strap does David Gilmour use? David Gilmour's guitar strap replica This guitar strap with crossed and chocolate-coloured straps has become perhaps as famous as its owner's black Stratocaster. According to accounts, a similar strap to this one belonged to Jimi Hendrix, and in 2006, David Gilmour's wife gifted it to him.

We humans are the most intelligent living species on Earth. We are capable of solving very complex problems, building the most intricate infrastructures, and curing diseases. Such is the extent of our intelligence. Yet, despite all this, we still struggle to understand how to live in peace with one another. Is it really that difficult, or are we not as intelligent as we think we are? Every religion has its gods, and all gods share a common goal: "Be good to each other, live in peace, and help one another." This is the main tenet of every deity, regardless of what you believe in. Yet, we humans often do the opposite of what all gods ask of us. Personally, I do not follow any religion, but I respect all faiths. I ask everyone on Earth: let us live together in peace, let us help one another, and let us do what the gods expect of us.
