Love his way of thinking ! More relaxed and knows how love for a band feels after so many years of creating ,performing , and living on the stage . May your retired life of relaxation bring you the best of memories for your life, family, and love you receive from all of the fans ❤🤷🏻♀️
Despite it being 99.99% certain that the band would not continue together ever again, we can all at least be thankful that the members (most notably dave and rog) have high esteem towards each other and are happy with what they are working with now.
David could say so many harsh things about Roger and no one on Earth would blame him, but he is still as kind and gracious as can be. He is true class. Love this guy!
@@northvilletunnels You also think Suzanne DeYoung is the Yoko of Styx. Dennis had his wife and children on the road with him when Styx were at their pinnacle. David has Polly with him for stability.
“You’re humble” “Very” This is why i love David so much. He’s confident, but not to much, like Roger. He’s aware of his talent and how much of a a musical genius he is, but he doesn’t let it consume him. Like…y’know who.
Ever the humble, courteous man. Bravo to Mr Gilmour to keeping it above board, with class and dignity. Will always be a fan of this guy and these interviews only reinforce that belief.
People seem to read way too much into Gilmour’s‘wall thing’ reply! When you get to his age (I’m 69) then everything is way less important than when you’re younger. So he’s not being derogatory, it just doesn’t matter !! And if he’s still talking to Water’s as he says, that’s no bad thing. For me Water’s is possibly the best lyricist in rock while Gilmour is easily my favourite guitarist. The four members of Pink Floyd together produced remarkable work which moves modern generations nowadays. As individuals, none of them has matched that level, the chemistry may have been rocky between them but that resulted in genius music.
That's exactly it . It just doesn't fucken matter anymore . The 'wall thing' is funny 😅 cuz it's so yesterday . Pretty sure Roger could care less also .
He;s NOT doing his "Wall thing" .His show is now FLoyd through the years plus his new songs. Nick Mason is doing the nostalgia early 60;s tour, I rather hear Arnold Layne than whatever new swill Gilmour is pissing out. He puts you to sleep.
I love Gilmour’s playing - one of my all time favourite guitarists. As a person, he stands for nothing and his lyrics say very little and move very few (imo)
@@PetraKann Dave has NEVER been politically motivated. He's quite content to have his secure huge Mansion. He was Knighted. Something I doubt will ever happen to Roger because of his belief system on the Aristocracy and its control over the world. Waters deserves utmost respect and Gilmour just doesn;t care.,;
Not unlike Robert Plant who, more often than not these days, is taking jabs at Zeppelin, the catalog, "Stairway", etc. But it made him who he is today, rich and famous, and afforded him a life that a very small percentage of people can even imagine.
@@charlesdjones1 I think Robert's issue with Zeppelin, is mainly aimed at his younger self, lyrics and some performances (do you remember laughter) I do wish he could see how much we loved young Robert and that there was nothing wrong with his lyrics
There isn't another Pink Floyd and there never will be one again. He said it. They have grown into legends and any misunderstanding between the two is almost natural. Their ideas their performance is of a different nature, now of advanced age both characters, minds have been forged. All we can do is to be grateful for the music they rendered to us. Listening to that is one of the highest pleasures and can not be forgotten until the end. Thanks for all the wonderful tunes and sounds, both to David and Roger, as well as those who have passed. Hmmm; I'd never thought about the question of which band was the best. I'm 72 yo and lived through he entirety of both bands existence and beyond and I'd have to say that Beatles are the best because of classic song writing and their impact on social consciousness, including politically and their amazing concentration of talent in each individual. That said, if I had to choose one band to spend 3 years in isolation on a deserted island alone listening to, it would be Pink Floyd, hands down. I've spent literally years of my life laying on my living room floor spacing and tripping out on their music and coming out of the session renewed.
The Beatles were the benchmark for bands to come. Their music is timeless. However, music is like food. You have your favorites, but you like different things as well. Thank goodness we have such a variety. 🙂
Notice immediately after he was asked if Pink Floyd was the best band ever then the Beatles, he nodded yes, thought about it then said "Oh the Beatles were the best" and gave that classic Gilmour smile. He still has that little devil inside that made him into one of the world's greatest guitarists.
I listen to Pink Floyd daily. David is by far the best guitar player of all time. I am in my late 60's. No other band has come close. David is the voice of Pink Floyd. They may not get along now but they made beautiful music together!! ❤
Hendrix was asked in an interview how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world. He just shrugged and said: "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher"! 😊
@@johnnywires943 not everything has to be so definitive. Hendrix might be the best for you, but not for me. His catalog is awesome, but it fell off greatly toward the end. Gilmour laid down some of his best work at the end of the actual original Pink Floyd lineup, "The Wall" is David at his best, vocals and guitar.
Cool David slipped in a zinger when he said that Roger is having fun living in the pass, while I'm writing new songs and expanding. Good on you Mr. Gilmore.
Because Gilmour is senile and can't care for himself and she is controlling him and taking advantage of him for that. And please don't compare Polly Samson to Yoko Ono - that is an insult to Yoko
awwwww, we love you Dave,,,, thank you sooooooo much for all of it,, the entire back catalog and all of your new stuff as well,,,,you have enjoyed a one in a billion /once in a lifetime stellar career you have left a huge imprint , not just in this generation, but in the whole of the human experience, you guys were not simply a band, you were a phenomenon, never to be matched or duplicated, all of this new stuff they got now,,you showed em all how its done,,,,,,
This is an old video going back to Roger's tour of The Wall in 2010-2013. The relationship between him and David today is at its lowest ebb following Polly Samson's stupid attack in February 2023.
Dave is 77, Nick is 79, Roger is 79, Richard is dead, Syd is dead and Bob, well who knows and at this point really it's academic. I think asking about a Pink Floyd reunion is like asking when David Bowie and Tom Petty are going on tour again. Why waste an opportunity to ask a real question? I mean WTF man? What the hell were you thinking?
@@Redguard677 Those are the same people that underestimate Nick and Richard's contribution but your point is made. Dave is basically retired and Roger is now your irritating 80 year old Uncle sitting in the corner screaming at a TV that's not even on. Thanks but no thanks. I think I'd rather remember them as they were.
All things considered, nobody can rival the Beatles and they are the one band that they compare themselves with. That being said, Pink Floyd continued in the 70’s what the Beatles created in the 60’s. Both bands cannot truly be compared to any others.
'You are humble' "Very" - Does saying 'very' cancel the humility? I love how he states the Beatles were the best. All very subjective of course. Amazing guy. Sure the world would love a reunion. I saw Waters do the whole 'Dark Side of the Moon' show around fifteen years ago. Amazing. Saw Robert Plant about ten years ago and he was remarkably generous with the Led Zep songs. At our age (and theirs) we take what live experiences they still offer and feel lucky to have them.
The questions asked are appalling, though. They could have asked more insightful question rather than "do you think Pink Floyd is the best band in the world?"🤦🏻♂️
I think the morale of the story is that you’re way less restricted in your creativity by being on your own. I think the simple truth is that two people that’s as creative as David and Roger trying to collaborate again would simply restrict too much of both peoples freedom to create. Having more than one highly creative person in a band is incredibly hard. This is one of the reasons why the Norwegian band A-HA is so darn impressive. They’re 3 equally creative artists that writes different songs they all preform together.
Im waiting for a Pink Floyd reunion as much as Im waiting for Elvis to come back from the dead, and Michael Jackson to ressuscitate for the upcoming album We Are The World II featuring Tupac and Kurt Cobain singing this time
@@pulsarlights2825 Have you been hiding under a rock? I'm not even a big fan or anything, but just about every major artist mentions the importance of the Beatles. Let's not even get started on their album sales....
@@Dagger-Deep Your not really answering my question, you keep referring to other's opinions, popularity, sales..etc...I am asking specifically what they did that is "IMPORTANT" and what metric you use to measure that..
Always loved that song. Had kind of an eerie mystique about it just like the band itself in those days. Wish there were more live performances of that song. I have only found three. Ummagumma was the first Pink Floyd album I bought at age 16 and still listening to it 54 years later.
Narrow way is one of the most idiotic composition of PF. Actually, at recording Ummagumma Richard Wright offered each member of the band to contribute one composition. They did and 2nd disc of that album represents those 4 compositions. Only Waters' song Grantchester meadow was a decent thing and survived. The remaining 3 members produced cacophony. Whole creativity of PF was concentrated in two Rogers - Barrett and Waters
All politics and personal issues aside, without co-founder, guitarist & songwriter, Syd Barrett, David Gilmore's guitar playing, lead vocals & songwriting, co-founder Roger Waters' lyrics, bass playing & songwriting, Richard Wright's keyboards & backing vocals, and Nick Mason's drumming, there would not have been the musical group, Pink Floyd. You can go back and forth about who's better than that musician and this one is better than that one, etc., but each member played a mostly equal roll to make them one of the best, innovative and most recognized Rock groups of their time and ours! Like most successful musical groups, their creativeness and inspirational songwriting for the very most part, was a group effort. And in my opinion, I believe their 3 record albums that best represented their work, overall, were 'Dark Side of The Moon,' 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall.' "Keep on Rockin' in The Free World..."
This must have been before Polly's message with David backing her up regarding Roger. I'm sure that ended any type or relationship they had left after that.
There is no going back......and there is no best band between the Beatles and Floyd. Totally different time periods and even tools used to create their music. Both were fantastic.... it, admittingly....I listen to a lot more Floyd than I do or ever have the Beatles.
What kind of stupid question is that which is better the Beatles or Pink Floyd one thing has nothing to do with the other The Beatles are the Beatles and Pink Floyd is The Pink Floyd one has nothing to do with the other they're both great. 👍
Anyone else think David was being kind of passive aggressive when he mentioned Roger was doing his Wall tour and he himself was working on new music? Like him subtly saying that Roger is stuck in the past.
It’s pretty sad that they can’t call each other every now And then, to say Hi, how are pal?? One of you will pass away one day. And it would be a shame that after all those yrs you can’t just be simply friends! 😢
Whole thing is frustrating. Roger Waters has all the ideas (high-concepts and creativity) - while Gilmour is the master musician. He was able to reign in Waters and tighten up each album. A good example of this is The Wall. If the album was only Waters parts it wouldn’t be nowhere as good. Gilmour brings balance and allows the listener to digest the more out there subject matter. But without the other both are nowhere as good. At least IMO Waters solo stuff goes too far creatively & isnt very good on a musical level. And Gilmours solo stuff is great technically speaking, but boring creatively. They were the perfect pair, and it sucks that they can’t get on the same page and drop their feud. I do think overall this is Waters fault since Nick Mason and Wright have both said it was. Or in interviews they have been more critical towards Waters. Considering Waters was a founding member and Gilmour joined later that’s pretty damning to see veteran members side with him.
Collectively, Pink Floyd's music and performances were SO much more moving and spectacular than anything the Beatles did. Their music explores themes of existentialism and humanity that are profoundly captivating on many different levels. Gilmour is humble, and may not see that! But I do!
He doesn't sit there and ponder the past and prefers to create new music 👍 Its gracious of him to answer these inane questions which he undoubtedly gets asked All the bloody time 😒 Who DOES sit around moaning about what's gone before . A thing that can never be undone . Just move forward
Me parece que esta entrevista es de 2015, cuando Gilmour vino a sudamérica. Dudo que hoy se intercambie correos con Waters, sobre todo tras las peleas públicas post invasión rusa de ucrania
Oh my Ummagumma. How will I ever get through my day. Not knowing if Dave and Roger will get back and kiss and make up. I still haven't got over Pete Best or Art Garfunkel.
I swear Dave must get so sick of being asked about Pink Floyd and Roger even though it was a big part of his life but it's in the past and I think that's where he wants it to stay
He;s NOT doing his "Wall Thing". Dave obviously hasn't paid any attention to Roger really. Roger's here in the USA and Dave is there..in his Castle, with his moat. Roger ended the WALL tour in 2018
@@gir5o1 Yeah I know what paraphrasing is, thanks. Journalists do it all the time and people when they want to land someone in the shit or make them look bad for something they didn’t actually say. He wasn’t narky with his comment but the way you paraphrased it made him out to be. I guess though no matter what he would have said some people would jump on it and twist his words. I like both David and Roger equally and see shit comments aimed at the pair of them, which is a shame.
Maybe im wrong, I was born in 77 and grew up hearing Pink Floyd as well as old Genesis. I think David Gilmore is much better than Roger Walters. And Peter Gabriel has a much better voice than Phil Collins.
