From about 1982-87 Letterman’s Late Night show was consistently groundbreaking. A different kind of humor that was actually making fun of show business. Absurdist humor with Chris Elliot, Larry Bud Melman, etc. Plus taking the show outside the studio. It is hard to imagine many things funnier than Letterman working a drive thru, etc. Many things from this show combined to influence a lot of people.

Coolest thing I ever did while in New York was to attend David Letterman. It was a dream of mine after being a lifelong fan. Canadian fan! Paul Schaefer was brill. Seeing the 4 Tops play live in the show was epic! Best night of 3 weeks!

Dave's comedy sense is just amazing. He's not only the best late show host of all time, but one of the best guests on his own platform. He knows what's he's doing in this interview captivating both Jimmy Kimmel and the audience.

It's nice to see Letterman's grey dress socks again. I think I read somewhere that they are custom, expensive wool socks, and he buys (or at least used to buy when he was on the Late Show) a lot of them.
