When he interacts with Paul at 4:40, the entire crowd understands the nostalgia taking place in front of them. Dave smiles almost to say "we were good, weren't we". Love it.
Hmmm...hearing Paul laughing in the background brings me a joy I didn't think I'd feel again. We really miss you, Dave :-) glad you're coming back on TV, in one form or another.
@@nawalaitelcadi5237 stephen is brilliant but The Late Show is dead, they totally missed the point of why it was so brilliant, they've gone for an unironic "LOUDER IS BETTER! EVERYBODY FAKE SMILE!!!" type vibe.... it's just boring trash with no subtlety now. RIP Late Show, RIP Daily Show, RIP Colbert Report...
TET - COM It’s very true, the Late Night show was a staple in comedy for years. Both Letterman and Conan loved the show and the legacy. Johnny Carson was a mentor to both Jay Leno and David Letterman and although Jay stole the show from Letterman it was no secret that Letterman was his pick, his heir. Jay Leno again weaseled his way back into the Tonight show and practically stole the show from Conan. Letterman and Howard Stern were front line defenders for Conan and even Jimmy Kimmel took a few swings at Jay Leno. Conan is definitely Letterman’s pick for Johnny Carson’s legacy, the heir.
Dave is the best there has ever been in that form. He changed it forever and he's sorely missed. This was amazing. Thank you, Jimmy and team for getting this done.
Night Shift because Jimmy Fallon isn’t funny and doesn’t seem very genuine. Everyone says it’s because he fake laughs at everything but I just truly don’t think he has comedic talent. He has many segments and bits on his show that make the show get good ratings but Jimmy Fallon alone pretty much sucks
I know it's called a Jimmy Kimmel show but for 16 minutes It felt like it was David Letterman's. I miss him so much. my favorite talk show host by far.
it sure did! I loved that we got to hear the old theme as Dave walked out, then come to find Paul was with the band. That was so great! For a moment it looked like Jimmy was giving the stage to Dave to do a monologue. The exchanges between Dave and Paul made it feel like the old show. Wow, i miss Dave
Being young sucks when you realize someone was the GOAT on TV all along but I had no idea. Never knew why Letterman was so admired, or why he needs a Netflix show.... Thanks to RU-vid for letting me see the DECADES worth of material that affirms everyone's adoration for this man.
@@causeitso I think it's just a play on words, equestrian meaning someone good with horses and Presbyterian being a form of religion but sounding similar. I don't know how to explain it well but I hope this helps
4:00 - 5:00 is the best minute of this whole video. From the shade against Jimmy Fallon, the mocking of Conan, and the great moment between Dave and Paul.
If he had watched the Conan interview fully, he would have known it has all been settled - the horse is now in some sanctuary, enjoying daily massages.
Manning Bartlett Absolutely the best part. Watched over and over. Love how Dave lets it breathe for a good 15 seconds after. Doesn’t say a word. Just let’s the moment happen.
I spent many late night hours as a teenager watching David Letterman. I love that man, I’ve probably laughed more watching him then I ever have in my lifetime. Happy to see him and glad everything is going great
I always say this. Jimmy and Conan are his sons. Conan was the one, he planned to have. Kimmel is the younger son that he ended up adopting as a teenager, and loves just as much. They will continue his legacy the same way that he continued their grandfather Johnny Carson.
tamayo sauce See I never think of Ferguson as one of Dave's sons. But if I had to, I'd say he's more like the foreign nephew. So he's Jimmy and Conan's cousin from across the way. He's still part of the family, but not part of the immediate family. Still love em, but he did his own thing.
Raging Red Colbert is the neighborhood kid that grew up with his sons. He eventually sold his car to him. He's a good kid, super into politics, but he means well.
I recently re-watched his last show and it still makes me tear up. A more deserving recipient of the Mark Twain Prize I can't imagine.. about damn time, too.
New Message Yep! I still have it too & watch from time to time. Same reaction...get a bit choked up. I REALLY miss Letterman. He was then and still is just brilliant! And indeed, he most certainly does deserve the Twain Award. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. About that beard though...why, why for crying out loud, do handsome men insist upon covering their faces with the craziest beards they can grow???!! He looks like one of the Smith Brothers or, as he pointed out, some general from the Civil War! Still love DL, beard or no beard! ❤️❤️
Dave was the greatest interviewer, because you could always tell how he felt about the guest. "Uh, our next guest is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, he directed such classics as Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, and Casino - please welcome the phenomenal Martin Scorsese." Or "Uhhh, our next next guest is, uh...well, she does a lot of things, I suppose. That's what I hear, anyway. Please welcome Paris Hilton."
*Dave has still got that sharp, quick, sardonic wit. Amazing, ... and pushing into his 70's. brilliant interview with Jimmy who is one of his biggest fans EVER.*

DAve is a legend. He still has IT. I like the beard, actually. I miss his smart ass questions to egomaniac celebrities. But, he's living a great life raising his boy. Good for him.
ExileOnDaytonStreet its classic letterman, still the best out there even after all these years, just look at how he completely took over, charismatic late night GOD.
maybe you have that feeling cause its made pretty clear. Of course its a joke they are simply poking fun at each other. Now i believe Conan probably took the horse gift more seriously than it was intended when he kept it, but obviously Daves complaiing was not some indictment or shows a lack of affection for Conan, its friends making fun of each other
Ankle Breaker This is exactly why I stopped watching the Tonight Show after Leno left and Fallon took over. Fallon is JUST NOT FUNNY!!! Plus he's just another Generation X fake weirdo.
PJ yes leno was funny. His show was the best hands down. Thats why the most people watched it. Just like why the most people watch colbert now. I think lenos people are doing seth myers now because his show is very similar but on too late. Falon sucks. I haven't watched a single episode since jay left. If i watch late night tv it will be colbert
Letterman was and IS the best. His sense of humor is wry, witty, intelligent, and a step ahead of everyone. This was an example of Dave at his best and a prime example of his superior comedy.
"Are you WALKING?" "Yeah, I'm walking to the airport."😂 "Well, you have a beard. Is everybody on you all the time about shaving it?" "No. They *LIKE* mine." Priceless.😂 Speaking of priceless, it was wonderful hearing Paul Schaeffer playing Dave's introduction music again.
You can see Letterman is Jimmys idol. Much respect there. Jimmy never interrupts Dave out of that respect. Plus, he is a big fan of Dave and wants to listen to the legend just like the rest of us. Dave doesn’t disappoint.

Forever one of the greats of television, late night or otherwise. I wish I had been famous simply to have been a guest on his show atleast once in my life. : )
You said it! Dave may have not hit the delivery like Don Rickles, but some of us "get it" Just wish there was a good Roast show now, more like Dean Martin's. Screw PC, bring your A game and take some shots/ without having to apologize and people taking themselves so seriously. Its what we do everyday at my office.
Letterman is the king. They said it was Carson but I have to say that Letterman took the the "Talk Show" to new heights! The new guys all bring their share of Letterman's influence to the game and they all give him his props. He is now the crotchety old elder and he does it in style! Bravo to Jimmy for the little bull!
