“I found this tile cement, it’s not SO toxic but you can get a five gallon tub of it pretty cheap, and it’s really sticky...sometimes I set it on fire” lmao
It’s kind of amazing how The Straight Story is such a different kind of movie from Lynch’s other movies, yet it still retains his personality as much as any of his works. There’s still that delightful awkwardness and sincerity.
@@Retrostar619 Unfortunately, it seems like it will be directed by different director after all consequenceofsound.net/2019/11/love-in-vain-robert-johnson-biopic/
This is a superb interview, all clear to me. More explained than expected. Imagine asking Picasso to explain his paintings hahaha!! Try a Salvador Dali interview !! David Lynch is a fine artist, driven by his passion. As a person he is very free that's unusual.
6:27 - Rip Angelo, it's not the same without him here, David and him worked so well together, but I have firm belief that they will meet again one day.
I watched the entire series Twin Peaks without know he was the guy who played the nearly deaf FBI agent who yelled everything lol. I just recently got into watching his stuff, and found out what he looks like from this video lol
@@donladare you fucking kidding me??? Fucking organic non toxic cement?? Oil paint is expensive?? He is my favorite artist ever and I havent even seen a work of his yet 😂 I’ve been watching his interviews non stop, he is hilarious. Thank you for the time stamp 😄
I'd like to see an interview with Lynch where he's asked things which don't allow him a springboard for ethereal tangents. What's your favorite breakfast cereal? Shit like that. You know?
Cheerios...are such a BLESSING. They remind us right from the get go. To be...cheerful and and and happy. As we start. The day. That that’s why it’s the most *important* meal of the day. Each little itty bitty circle cascades out from its packaged prison...and flies for a short eternity... until landing gracefully unto the bowl. A ding. A scream into the world. I am here. Here I am. They shout.such a bliss. The milk. White. White. White as death and the great beyond flows. It flows down and drowns the dots and they float. And they live in a beautiful harmony. Awaiting the spoon. The beautiful shining spoon like a mirror. You see yourself in a warped, mirror and then see the meal. You see your inner, living beauty. And you are reminded to be cheery as you have your cheerios. It’s a beautiful thing.
Criterion, you have spoiled me with how great your restoration on his films have been. Seeing the footage used here... Painful to see. Lynch is one of those film makers where you only watch the highest quality of his films. Thank god for Criterion. Now, let's have them remaster this interview.
I hate it when an interviewer asks David for examples for things. It is not relevant. David is so amazing at what he does that, I think people have a hard time realizing that asking for a "Straight" answer is no more than destroying the beautiful language of Cinema.
I'm not particularly a fan of Rose as an interviewer, but he's interviewed some of the great minds, artists, and writers (i.e. David Lynch, Martin McDonagh, David Foster Wallace, Kazuo Ishiguro, Harold Bloom, Antonin Scalia, etc.) it's actually quite impressive. If only he were more of an interviewer like Peter Robinson.
“You filmed for what? 21 days?” No we filmed for 31.” “Oh well that’s only ten days more” David looked at him like you fucking idiot it’s makes a big difference lmaooooo
I just don't get it why everybody is calling him a genius. He can't even complete a full sentence that shows any deeper meaning behind his intensions or stop waiving with his fingers and distract so fundamentaly from what ever he is trying to explain, in the very same moment. Lynch is trying his best, I agree. But there is nothing worth of mentioning or idealize him es the best movie Maker of all times or even as genius. He just sucks in my opinion. I'm not a fan or glorify and kind of filmmaker. But as a example, compared to Takeshi Kitano. Kitano accomplished more then him. And is able to make his point clear by using straight words without making magic with his fingers or being called a genius. Tarkowski another example but I'm not going into detail here. I'm happy you found something you like at Lynch's work. Maybe he inspires you in some way. But this cult like, unfounded glorifying is a joke. Not that you think you care about my opinion or view at thi topic right here. Nobody cares about anybody's view today. Only about why someone doesn't share his view. At least this makes you now understand my motivation.
How do they not include DUNE in his filmography??? Yeah they had budget problems, but the set design was amazing up until then... And his whole approach was still amazing. HOW did they not list it??
Btw German "Zeitgeist" probably doesn't mean what David thought of here. In German, this word simply means what is mainstream in terms of ideas/concepts in a certain period of time/epoche - it's not metaphysical or spiritual.
thats exactly what he means by whats in the air. the spiritual is what is inside. thats why he talks about needing to wait until y2k calms down for there to be something new in the air.
NIcely handled. The old days when this show would be sent by satellite. Along with that funny green cast. You thought it was something in your set...but nope.
7:48 “Eccentric daughter,” come on, Charlie Rose, she’s disabled and had her children taken from her because she was deemed unfit. Great movie though, and interesting to hear Lynch talk about it.
You think David Lynch ever got told he looks like young Jimmy Dean? Because he does. For reference - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hiYtIr1tj38.html
He might seem a little bit insolent at times, but I think he hits just the right balance between respecting Lynch and having a natural reaction to some of the weirder stuff says.
As a Psychologist i would say no... Most of the time the most psychologically healthy people produce the works most considered "bizarre" because they unconsciously use art to explore these different facets of human complexity. The sick ones are the repressed and the puritans... They who keep a dark side, which only grows like a snowball. But i dont think a troll cares...
