Lucasfilm should consider releasing the original version of Star Wars, just so the effects artists can be remembered and their work hasn't been forgotten due to revised history. They were true magicians, real artists, and storytellers. Kids today have probably only seen one of the 4 different Special Editions, they haven't seen or experienced Star Wars the actual film.

I have the original SW release on laserdisc. It's one of my favorites even if you can see many of the imperfections it's still magical.

Lucasfilm/Disney has not and likely never will. However the fan community has taken it on themselves. If you have not encountered the despecialized editions I suggest you seek them out.

I was a camera person and technical assistant on miniatures for some low-budget productions, and occasionally was asked to rig some mechanized things, and once create some vehicle models. Even though I had no precise knowledge or experience it was fun to be able to use my imagination and create something out of random spare parts and materials. I was also a production assistant for an FX company doing Keebler Elf commercials, and the model shop asked me to help make some minor objects. I crafted a miniature paddle for pulling cookies out of the oven. It had realistic wood grain and brass fittings. The model supervisor personally congratulated me, saying the client really liked the paddle. Those were interesting commercials with lots of mechanisms and puppeteering to move the sets and objects to appear as though the elves were working in the set. The elves were added later with traditional animation. That was before CG. I was on the miniature stages for The Abyss for a while, and was able to see many of those miniatures, and their photography. The fiber optic NTI vehicles were really cool. After CGI took over, many of those model makers became computer modelers, and I would run into them again many years later on digital shows.

Recognise many of the models (Buck Rogers, Outbreak, Alien 3, etc) but does anyone know what film/show the massive 747 (not Airforce one) is from?
@piercefilm
@piercefilm 2 года назад
Turbulence (1996). That's how Boss Film got the job for Air Force One. They could use that 747 model again with more detail added.
