No.. because then everything they say will be 100% true to them because they speak from the Bible and speak the word of “God” so knowing that they’ll be asked hard questions.. it probably will never happen
Any myth is just people going with their first theory. Their first explanation for something. If those people took a little bit more time to think about it, they would find better explanations. All of science is people finding explanations for unexplainable phenomena.

Walking on water could relate to walking above a certain mindset, rising from the dead could relate to shedding one’s old consciousness and emerging “reawakened” . Of course I just kind of came up with that on the fly.
Please reread your copy of the Old Testament. It’s in there. Like he said, the New Testament IS, WITHOUT A DOUBT, the retelling of the Old Testament. Also, the OT is the retelling of many other myths: Horus, Mithra, Dionysus, Appolonius, etc. For example, Attis of Phrygia: born on Dec 25 from a virgin, considered a savior of mankind, was crucified on a tree, he descended into the underworld and after three days, was resurrected. His body as bread was eaten by his worshippers. He was both the Divine Son and the Father. One can find 20 God myths predating the OT that have a list of at least 10-12 of the same attributes.
So its the lesson that is true knowledge And with great power comer great responsibility. So we must learn from our self and the past. Our biggest enemy is knowledge which leads to arrogance and narcissistic
When a physicist explains physics to a child they don’t just show the child a complex mathematical formula, they tell the child a story they can relate to and begin their understanding.
I agree. The bible is mathematical formula and the story of it is also a result of that formula. The esoteric teachings of the human body/mind's potential is also.
Myths are figurative in the language. We're not _that_ figurative as we once were. To take what is written in the Bible literally, is to make a mistake, and to dodge thinking about what the meaning could be. Nothing is free.
@@thebeanymac Sure, the parables May have been examples for the people to relate to. But to say that nothing in Bible can or should be taken literally is simply a weak, un-supported opinion.
@@jamesh6650 Nope. The view has been long established, since the poets of old, since before the Bible. You haven't understood. Read Joseph Campbell as a start. Look at what George Lucas has to say, somewhere in his interviews, who studied Campbell. There are stark lessons in the Bible for a good life, like many other holy books, but only if the language is taught to you through various means, that is: _how_ to read such work. I've done that through the study of mythology, not what is told, but _how_ the stories are told. Mythology holds the oldest way we know to tell a story, to impart wisdom, and to entertain as well. Learning is only gained through effort, and reading works like the Bible are not easy.
This viewpoint is simply a kind of evolution of Christianity, it allows all of the teachings of the bible to remain intact, and it somewhat prevents the circumstance of someone questioning how, for example, Jesus fed five-thousand-it makes the bible a lesson more than a non-fictional word for word recount. This guy is still incredibly religious and devoted, just looks at it in a modern way.
Just as confident as a Christian declaring every other religion mythologies. That the bible represents the compressed knowledge and philosophy of thousands of generations of humans put into a form that can be useful to anyone human today...which is only doable via storytelling? What's so hard about that? Do you also have trouble with the Lord of the Rings series? (Hint: Orcs, Elves, and Dwarves do not exist...they are all humans)

@@fortusvictus8297 The Bible does not represent "the compressed knowledge and philosophy of thousands of generations of humans." It doesn't contain any knowledge at all. What a joke.
The greatest thing about biblical myths is that they beautifully illustrate eternal features of human nature and all the social problems we deal with. Even if you are an atheist it's worth studying those myths because they are great stories, excellently retold and they are mirrored by the world we live in today
It's also a huge guide to realities. For instance, there's a phrase in the bible where it states that killing a man in your home at night is fine, but if you kill him in your home in the day time, it's not ok. At first this might seem like non-sense, but in reality, yes society will factually treat you different, especially back then, if you kill someone at night vs the day time. Your neighbors would see you as defending your home at night but they would be super suspicious and probably convict you if you did it in the day time. Especially if you consider it before forensics and technology which was almost ALL of human existence
It was my study into religion which led to me and my current belief system where if there is a all mighty God, which I think there isn't, it is not a good being and simply doesn't care about anything besides itself.
Some facts about the Bible (imaginatively named after the Ancient Greek for “book,” “biblos”): 1. the “book” is a collection of texts written by multiple authors over centuries. 2. The texts are examples of different genres, notably including laws (a favorite genre of the ancient near east, where the Old Testament was written in Hebrew), historical narrative, and Epistles (from the Latin word for “letter,” “epistula,” the letters were written in Greek, like the rest of the New Testament). 3. In terms of piecing together the past to learn about God (a primary purpose of the Bible), we couldn’t ask for better historical evidence, which again includes historical narrative and letters written by primary sources, for example Jesus’ disciples). 4. In terms of written history (historical documents pre-printing press written by hand) no other ancient or medieval text comes close to the amount of evidence we have arguing for the textual integrity of the individual texts that comprise the Bible.
Shame the modern world wants more proof as, by today's standards, there is no definitive/ultimate proof the Bible was written by the authors. I only need faith, and trust the one who said, paraphrasing here a bit, my facts speak for me
@John Mateus copy and pasted from a Protestant website: How Did the Apocryphal Books Become Part of Some Bibles? Actually no one knows for sure how the apocryphal books came to be part of some copies of the Old Testament. Many, however, think that the extra books were added when the Old Testament (originally written in Hebrew) was translated into Greek. This Greek translation of the Old Testament is called the Septuagint and was produced by Jewish scholars in Alexandria, Egypt about 250 B.C. This theory is based on the fact that the earliest copy of the Septuagint available today contains these extra books, while none of the Hebrew Scriptures contain them. These books, along with the rest of the Bible, were translated by Jerome into Latin around A.D. 400, but Jerome himself did not think they belonged in the Old Testament. Why Don’t We Accept the Apocryphal Books? (1) Even though the Septuagint existed in New Testament times and was available to the New Testament writers (the Book of Hebrews quotes from the Septuagint), there are no direct quotations from the Apocrypha in the New Testament nor does the New Testament refer to any apocryphal books as part of Scripture. (2) No general church council in the first four centuries of Christian history endorsed apocryphal books. While some early Christians thought highly of these books, others, such as Athanasius, Cyril of Jerusalem, Origen and Jerome opposed them. (3) While Augustine accepted the Apocrypha, his list is not exactly the same as that found in Catholic Bibles [for example, he omitted Baruch, which is in the Catholic Bible, and he included 1 Esdras, which is not in the Catholic Bible]. Furthermore, Augustine seems to have changed his mind from accepting the Septuagint as authoritative to later recognizing that only the Hebrew Scriptures were inspired. (4) Even the Roman Catholic Church did not officially recognize the Apocrypha as belonging in the Bible until the Council of Trent in A.D. 1546-Catholicism’s response to the Reformation. (5) The Apocrypha appeared in Protestant Bibles even before the Council of Trent and on into the nineteenth century but were placed in a section separate from the Old and New Testaments.
@John Mateus What the man's said above. No anger/offense towards you, but fuck Catholicism; They're the ones that first started to stereotype the idea of Jews being penny-pinchers solely bc they were fine with separation of church/temple and bank. Even though Calothics were basically bribing peasants to be 'cleansed' of their sins. That covered up pedophilia for centuries. No. Apocryphal is an understatement in regards to the book.
If your gonna open up these discussions ,which I love, it would be awesome to bring in great Bible Scholars. Those who can give some true history on the history of the scriptures. There are plenty.
The scriptures aren't history, unless you want to talk about the council that wrote it. They may use real historical places or people but that's as far as it goes as them being historical. They are children's stories and nothing more.

I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word. Once you experience the holy spirit of God enter you then you KNOW it's not a myth. It's also not logical to say the Bible is full of myths when the books of the Bible that are Histories have been proven to be supported by archeologist over and over again. The problem is that there are too many part time scholars who THINK they know everything because they study a little here and there and then find something they don't like and want to harp on it. Without the holy spirit to guide you in pursuit of a greater understanding your just treading water in an endless ocean that is too great to comprehend by yourself. Yet what prideful man who is full of himself will ever admit he wasn't enough. Wont they always blame what they can't comprehend instead of taking a deeper look at themselves? Too much self pride always comes before a fall into humility. Know that God is not a myth. Instead understand that he is everything and everywhere. He is always there beside us even though he gives us the freedom to decide on our own if we will do good or evil. We are not little biological robots that are preprogrammed into slavery. We hold the responsibility for our own actions and choices. Freedom to choose good or evil means the responsibility for good and bad in the world is OURS. You are free to choose. I hope you make choices that bring joy and happiness into your life. The second commandment Jesus gave was to love yourself so that you could love your neighbor as yourself. If your heart if full of self loathing or hate then the world you create is one where everyone hates themselves and each other. The secret to loving yourself is to admit that you human and that you can make mistakes. Forgive yourself and ask others to forgive you too. Yet, forgiveness comes from repenting. Repenting means to be sorry for what you have done and to do your best not to do it again. Make peace with yourself by admitting to yourselves the wrongs you have done and then repent. As you gain forgiveness, you will find that you can look the person in the mirror in the eyes again and start to love again. Love yourself. Then love others as you love yourself too. It's your choice to make because you are not a slave but a person with the freedom to choose. Choose wisely and God bless =)
Condescending and arrogant people like you is the part of the reason people turn away from religion. When you say "I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word", you are implaying to have some degree authority or sense about what's the real word of god. You claim to experience the holy spirit of god when you wrote: "Once you experience the holy spirit of God enter you then you KNOW it's not a myth". How do you know for certain? because you feel it? because god himself enlighted you? How do you know it was not some psycological phenomena in the state of extacy? Yet you also say: "Wont they always blame what they can't comprehend instead of taking a deeper look at themselves? Too much self pride always comes before a fall into humility". Then you should take a deep look at yourself. Your first statement reflecs arrogant pride "I love when the lost try to act like an authority on God's word." Another claim of yours: "Know that God is not a myth. Instead understand that he is everything and everywhere. He is always there beside us even though he gives us the freedom to decide on our own if we will do good or evil." is a pantheistic view that plenty of PhD schoolars would disagree.

By this guys logic, the Bible would be no different than any other religious text as it imparts some wisdom on humanity. Organizations always prove to be corrupt at some point. They have a lot of good things to teach and things we can learn from. Whether we agree with the illogical logic that pops up in the myths.
I get this. I’m a Christian, and I go to a church where they believe the Bible and aren’t wishy washy about it, and the people are genuine, if they point out something in my life that’s not in line, it’s because they love me not to bring me down. Just saying this to encourage you or those reading, you might find a church that’s a blessing. If you don’t believe the Bible, you won’t have that foundation in common, so it is not going to be a fit. So it starts with the Bible. Strong man, don’t straw man it, investigate. Maybe you’ll be convinced. “Doubt your doubts”. Blessings to you~
@@vanessaburdine4865 I have no issues with the Bible it's the church as an organization I have an issue with. I believe that the Bible and books such as those are great in their teachings. But as things grow we as humans are prone to corruption. And I can't willingly choose to side with the church because I don't trust the organization as a whole. Also I say illogical logic because the myths/stories in the Bible seem illogical to someone who doesn't believe in it.
Nearly every fiction has some good things a person can get from it. The Bible also has some very immoral ways to live such as condoning slavery, sex slavery, and genocide.
The bible says on the seventh day he rested! it also says Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness that in heaven above, or that in the earth beneath, or that in the water under earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God! and yet... EVERY single church has a statue of jesus on the cross... your not supposed to do that!
He talked about biblical myths how is that insane? He never gave an opinion one way or another. If you think you have the world and life figured out from a nihilistic point of view your would seem insane to most.
@@Tantaliz3Halo just his sense of reality is so off like his his points make sense but what he relays it to is so far off the truth it makes it hard to watch. Like man said 20 year olds dont want sex lmfao like the porn view makes sense but then he says that and its like uh ok?
I wish Joe would sit down with a Lee Strobel, Andrew Wommack, Kirk Cameron or even Phil Robertson to discuss the Bible & Jesus. I think Joe & Phil would be a great conversation!
It's disappointing how little Mr Rogan knows about the scriptures, especially when he holds strong views on the Bible. I sincerely hope he invites some actual biblical and theological scholars on. I know cliffe from the AskCliffe youtube channel would be happy to speak with him, as well as Doug Wilson, who has invited him many times for a public conversation. I don't understand why Rogan always avoids those who actually are experts and believers in these fields of study.
@@TheRustedShackleford OMG. That's SO funny! You should get an award or something! You're so clever and original! I'm genuinely amazed at how amazing that thought you put together was. Congrats! So unique! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment 👏👏👏👏👏 Why is it non Christians are always so caught up in Christianity? And why are you so quick to show everyone you have nothing but opinions with no knowledge or logic to back them up? Trust me. I've seen the atheist "scholars". Tyson. Bart. They'd fail first year studies in logic. Much less an entry level class in understanding of the Christian worldview and scriptures. Some of the least impressive arguments I've ever seen.
All this guy does is avoid answering a question by talking about octopus squeezing throw tubes.. just cause you go on. A rant doesn't mean you answered the question David
He did answer the question with that example; it's a myth that wants to tell something about human experience, don't focus on those details cause you'll missing the point of the story and they're not relevant to said point
Two jokes are told at the end of the full podcast. After the first one Joe Rogan explains to David Mamet that it is not a good joke. Stone faced the Pulitzer Prize winner tells the second joke which is not meant to be funny and is given approval, but truly receives confirmation.
I would really love him to have on Dr. Michael S. Heiser to explain what the is and how it works. It would be great and so educational. The issue with mythologizing all of it is you never get a God who actually interacts and deeply cares for His creation. You get an aloof God who is unconcerned and never actually gets involved and shows a level of concern and love. The obvious problem with this idea is it isn't written that way. It tells the Story as God actually being involved and caring so much that God sent Jesus to redeem the world to Himself and defeating sin and death on the cross as an actual man but by being God also had the power to defeat death which is reasonable considering He created us so He also has the power to fix us and the universe He made.
@@willwike5804 No thanks. Praise anything real. Of which Jesus is not. Praise the sun. Praise the stars. Praise water running in a stream. Don’t praise worthless words made up by men to control other men. That’s like praising the knife you are murdered by.
So maybe the people put together the Bible because it was a time when people would believe them to actually be true and they didn’t expect or prepare for a society that would progress so differently? Or the creators of the Bible actually thought it all true because they were as open to the stories as everyone else at the time?
His argument falls apart because we are living in a time when secretly, the people who control this planet are forcing revelations through technology and social conditioning.
@@dylanwestrand9507 Either way it completely rediculous to base ones life on those stories. Religion is evil. Bible is nothing but a tool to help control the masses.
The problem is when people continue to take it literally when we know better now, but they didn't know better then (back when these stories were created). I wouldn't even go as far as David takes it- he's basically presenting it as though they knew they were writing myths. I have no doubt there were some stretches added in over the years and through translations to add some flavor (like any modern day fish story), but my interpretation is that as far as the writers knew- what they were saying was, for the most part, true. For example- there are "great flood" stories in almost every religion and culture. Do I believe there was a "great flood" at some point in history? Yes. Do I believe the entire world was underwater and one boat carried two of every living thing aboard? No. That's not to say that as far as the people telling the story knew, the "whole world" might represent only a few square miles that they've ever seen and experienced. So as far as they know, it's accurate. And as far as how long this went on, how exactly are they keeping accurate time? Then as these people told their story to someone else, that person also had the same experience (albeit a different area, and different animals, etc.) and added in their two cents. Then this story got told to their grandchildren. Then- several thousand years later- all these clay tablets are found talking about these "similar" stories, translated into another language and lumped into one big story. And now we think of it as meaning one person "saved the world" story. That's what makes the most sense to me at least. But at the end of the day, none of these details really make a difference. The point is in the moral of the story and the wisdom passed along over thousands of years of human debauchery. Right from wrong. Good from bad. As long as that's the take away, who really cares about the literal meaning. In fact, the people that take it literally, are just as dangerous (if not, more) as the people that have no moral compass in life. Why? Because they use their literal interpretation of the Bible to justify immoral behavior. Which is almost worse than being ignorant to morality to begin with. But that doesn't mean that people should just toss the Bible because it doesn't "all add up". There are several lessons to be learned and many takeaways.
