Thank you for that very informative comment! The Man From Uncle but more so, David McCallum‘s character Illya were cemented in my brain from the age of 8 and as I went on to live my life every now and then a fuzzy fond memory would pop up, and I couldn’t remember what show it was from and then along came the Internet and the digital age, and RU-vid and Google and I was able to refresh my memories. Anyhow, my son bought me the series of the man from uncle, and I’ve decided I’m going to watch a couple of videos a day until I go through the whole series in memory of David McCallum. I just watched season one episode one and of course that was before David actually became a solid character in the series (he didn’t appear at all)but it was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was just Robert Vaughn as the main character. It was full of action and drama, so I’m looking forward to watching the rest of the four seasons AGAIN!! Episode three is where they introduced McCallum , which put him in a solid footing with Robert Vaughn. Both actors became extremely popular, but, as the show continued David became so loved some considered the fifth Beatle due to his Beatlesque style blond haircut!!
@@lpeek56 Thanks for your reply, David McCallum will be best remembered for his roles on the two popular television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. 1964 - 1968 as Illya Kuryakin and NCIS 2003 - 2023 as Donald "Ducky" Mallard series NCIS,
Sad to hear of David McCallum's death today (9-25-2023), at the age of 90. His death comes exactly 12 years to the day from the death of Andy Williams (9-25-2012). RIP to these two talented entertainers.
David McCallum was sometimes called "The Fifth Beatle" at the height of the UNCLE series. He had a very dry sense of humour, and the fact that he still appears on tv five decades after his initial appearance is testment to his enduring talent.
Yet "Remind" puzzle magazine won't mention him in their birthday section (but mentions Lee Majors who's dead). David has just celebrated his 89th birthday and deserves more-he's done more than Majors anyway, including playing a chr.on "NCIS" for 20 yrs., is a musician, and is a writer. Majors was only a has-been actor for his "6 Million Dollar Man" series and little else but politics).
Both were great. McCallum was a great Actor. Williams was a great Singer and a great Human Being. Got all of Williams's songs. Still as great in 2022. Saw NCIS reruns, in 2022, still great. McCallum from 1958, on Perry Mason reruns, still great. Two Giants.
Well, they ones they have are not as good anyway! I miss them too!Besides, they'd rarely invite a man as talented as David who's been on "NCIS" for nearly 28 yrs., much less give him an Emmy or Star on Hollywood. They'd rather give both to actors with barely 1/2 his yrs.of talent, experience, and work just because they fit their liberal agenda.
As a young teenage girl Illya was another British dreamboat to adore. Loving David through the years I’d watch him in his older movies, loving THE GREAT ESCAPE for the amazing film it was. With so many talented actors I still watch it when it’s on TV. The best line in early NCIS was when Kate said,”I wonder what Ducky looked like when he was young.” When Gibbs replied,” Illya Kuryakin.” she had no idea who that was.
I just want to suggest looking on Wikipedia about David there’s a lot of information about his talent and all the work that he did over the years, quite extraordinary actually! Two of my favorite movies one in 1967, titled Three Bites of The Apple filmed in Italy and 1969 The Ravine. You can watch The Ravine on RU-vid, the quality isn’t very good but better than nothing! I would buy a copy if I can get one that would play in my region but I can’t find any that will.
I used to love watching the Andy Williams show when I was a child, there was always a sketch with a bear I remember that used to come round to Andy's house for some honey, does anyone else remember that. Can you believe it though David will be 90 in September this year (2023) he still looks great!
Wish I could but I don’t remember much from Andy Williams show! Just found this clip and thought it was sweet and silly! I have always loved David from the age of 10❤️
I pictured him as an older Adm. Archer (or maybe a guest chr.) On "Enterprise" in a dream, but then it was cancelled. I don't even know if David liked "Star Trek" or not (I liked both as I grew up). Forgot to ask .
The boy from Glasgow , Scotland ,did very well for himself!!! Strangely I don't think he ever played a Scottish character in a movie, he used to visit the small spa village of Bridge Of Allan near Stirling in Scotland, he had family connections in the area, his Grandma lived near Loch Lomond , folk in Scotland who met him and knew him still speak of him , its a long way from Hollywood, Stirling is also my home town, David returned there in the 1970s to do some location filming at Stirling Castle which was doubling for the WW2 prison " Colditz" in the BBC TV series of the same name.
Thank you chris for that bit of information. Those are things that I didn’t know about him so I appreciate your input and the fact that you’re familiar with his home territory makes it even better!
There were a lot of good ones too, Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, The Glen Campbell Good time Hour, Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, Ed Sullivan, Hee Haw, The Dean Martin show, Lawrence Welk, Sonny and Cher, Jack Benny, as a kid and teen I laughed with all these shows. Miss them. Nothing like them today as the audience is much more sophisticated since the computer came. Of age, cell phones streaming, and so much of it is garbage! Just my humble opinion!!
@@lpeek56 Yes, I'm not being completely fair: Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, very talented artists. It's just a personal thing with me: I liked the comedy but whenever the variety show turned to a song or dance thing it bothered me no end. After Hendrix, the White Album, the assassinations, etc., the variety show always seemed completely out of date for me. But this is just me.
I met David before. He's more fair-minded than you are. I'd hardly consider him a "right-wing" jerk. As for Andy, I never met the singer.I guess It's people like you who prefer non-talented idiots who get awards simply because of their politics. Besides, I believe David was once more liberal-minded-and grew up.
