Agree Sean Connery best, though I thought Timothy Dalton did great job. I liked Pierce Brosnan as Bond, but the stories were not as good as the earlier ones.
@@youngsteph1 I, too, thought Timothy Dalton was good, and was the best Bond based on the Books, but he wasn't as good as Connery as a film Bond, and the movies were not that good, tho he did well in them.
This is being written on the day that we learned Sean Connery had passed away. He was a great actor, and it’s great we have clips like this to look back on. It is nice to remember him in his young days.
@@jesusisgod2953 That’s just what we needed. More propaganda from a mindless manipulated sheep! P.S. I just talked to Jesus, and he told me to tell you, “blow me!”
Everyone's toxic today. I don't think people of the future will believe how nice people used to be. I think it starts on day one of life these days with the useless Hep B shot and gets worse from there.
rjb555 It may have started when the likes of movies such as animal house and raging bull were thrown at the world, as entertainment. Generations taught to revel in slobdom, and violence. It went down hill from there.
It was all 'keeping up appearances' while the dirty laundry was kept indoors and never mentioned. Things were just as bad if not worse, it's just that everyone kept up false pretences.
Sean Connery is the smoothest, most relaxed, suave-talking man of all time. It is with pride that I strive to be like him, as studying his situational and conversational awareness has helped me to gain confidence when in public and speaking to people. He's also my favorite actor!
With all that going for him, it almost seems a wonder that he didn't live forever. It's as though you might look up "indestructible" in the dictionary and see his picture. Well, anyway, the memory of him lives on, and will.
Agreed. I am a straight male, but I can definitely see why women are attracted to him. I just love how cool and laid back he always seemed. The film he mentions on here "the hill" brings back a very fond memory for me. I was 17 in 1985 and staying at a friend's house while his parents were on holiday. There was a drinks cabinet and we got absolutely sozzled on some strong spirits, while watching the film "the hill" I loved the film, and like Sean's character in that film,I have never been what society would call a conformist,I do my own thing, which gets me into trouble occasionally, nothing too bad mind. I have never seen that film since then, but I recommend it to anyone that loves Sean. The whole cast are brilliant infact. I was so sad to hear of Sean's passing last year, but he had a good innings and I believe he enjoyed his life, and we can't ask for more than that.
Yes! Everyone went on about his accent, his muscles, and thick eyebrows (which were still epic), but never about his dimples, long eyelashes, or expressive eyes.
George Lazenby was the best Bond and Albert R. Broccoli once himself stated that had he honored his 7 film contract, his would be the portrayal by which all others are measured.
i heard that he found them ‘embarrassing’ ...i understand, we tend to forget that while women were put in a box called ‘cheesecake’, men were put in a box called, ‘beefcake’.
The etiquette is so interesting... the gentlemen stand to greet Connery and the ladies stay seated. The 60's weren't toooo long ago. Funny how times completely change. This is pop culture for the common man, yet it is all so sophisticated and formal
+goodbyeisthenewhello I find it odd. All should be standing to greet a pop icon be it male or female. Female to be seated it look so rude and disrespect a big movie star.
gulliblewhitepeople Not say western or eastern... when a person of high standing n respect u need to stand juz like u watch an opera pay tribute to a legend. Luckily, nowadays, both sexes stand when there is a need to.
gulliblewhitepeople Again digressing. Stick to topic. Nowadays there is no such thing of this sort anymore. All are equal. So be it a female or male figure of respect he/she needs a clap or standing ovation. Case closed u narrow minded moron.
+James Owl I was born in the late 40's my formative years was the 50's, therefore I would probably be classed as old fashioned. I consider a lot of the younger generation as rude, so do many people from my era think the same. You can't teach an old dog new tricks!
@@stevejacobs4246 Because when big celebrities would come to town for filming or premieres it was big news written about in the newspapers of the day. The first person on the panel, Dorothy Kilgallen, was showbiz columnist for the New York Times or one of the other major papers back then. It appears she thought that answer too simple though.
"The Hill" is a masterpiece. Strongly recommended. Especially if you're a Connery fan, because that film gave him more of an opportunity to show the true depth of his acting ability than any of the Bond films did. A truly brilliant performance. The rest of the cast was perfect, too.
@@dinahbrown902 "The Anderson Tapes". Ralph Meeker is in it too, so although they hadn´t worked together at the time this show was made, they did five years later.
Feels great joy and great sadness to see my old boss. My first film I was fired as a PA and kinda fell in as his assistant. This is man who refused personal costumer, handler or a driver. He drove an Oldsmobile to work. My duties were simple ..drove him around in the golf cart, brought his chair, his lunch, pass his messages to the production etc. Talked about continuity and consistency... he ate Greek lunch 5 days a wk with watermelon juice. He treated me with decency and warmth. What an honor and glorious 5months He gave me his character's Rolex as a wrap gift I miss you boss
Are you saved friend? If you died tonight will you go to heaven or hell? God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Isaiah 45:22-23 KJV Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. [23] I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. John 1:1-3,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, Isaiah 44:6 KJV Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 1:17-18 KJV And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Another nice story: Mie Hama, Kissy of You Only Live Twice: "I thought of him as my older brother. Always a gentleman. I still remember him after all these years." (paraphrase). You can look up an interview with her 'From Japan With Love' with Raymond Benson. At the time of the interview, she must have been in her 60s, but still looked beautiful.
Connery was the one who set the bar for what 007 was supposed to be; even though others followed with sometimes excellent portrayals of a spy, Sean's characterization will always remain what everyone from that generation of movie viewers believe to be the 'true', somewhat larger than life spy. In reality, no person who had gained noteriety in the field could ever work undercover. But the movies were entertainment, and terrific his movies were, every one. And you can't say that about any other actor's Bond films.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! There is ONLY one James Bond for me.......and that is Sir Sean Connery! What a complete heart beat raising, I would've given anything....to have been a 'Bond Girl' wrapped in his arms in one of his movies!!!! Lord.....please save my sou!!
I would say at least two of his Bond movies were subpar for various reasons: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN. Five Bond movies that were all at a fairly high level hasn't really been matched since though.
It seems that he hated being type-cast as Bond and wanted to carry on playing other parts (as he had been doing from the mid-'50s up to 1962/63). When he got the chance, he did quite well (in pictures like "The Hill").
They all make their voice sound like the other gender, but I was wondering how he could even disguise his distinctive voice. I think he did a pretty good job!
Your father might've been waiting outside the studio while he filmed this episode of WHAT'S MY LINE? That's very cool. Did he have any stories about driving Sean Connery around?
Not the only reason naturally, but i think the lack of constant flow of entertainment made people to read much more, that does wonders for one's vocabulary.
I think it has more to do with the prominence of radio. Radio shows were "the thing" until Television started becoming common in the 50s/60s. All the starts/celebrities for television came from radio, and since radio was voice only, there was an emphasis on articulation and delivery. Your run of the mill, lower/middle class workers were just as articulate as today's.
The microphones back than picked up on the lower baritone sounds better. And people with lower voices, be it male or female, always sound more sophisticated.
This episode aired Oct 3, 1965. James Bond: Thunderball would release about 2 months later in December of '65. So, Sean had 3 prior JB films on his belt before this episode with Dr. No ('62), From Russia with Love ('63), and Goldfinger ('64) and Thunderball was likely being advertised everywhere. Had he not disguised his voice, if the guy didn't recognize him the ladies sure would have.
I was seven when I saw it at the FOX theater in Oakland with my cousin, friend and his father. To this day ,i still have my metal Aston Martin toy and the box. Enough about me..tell me all about YOU...ha.
Absolutely. My choices in order: Connery, Dalton, Moore, Brosnan, Lazenby and the overrated Craig last. One actor who i would have loved to have seen in the role: Dougray Scott. Purely based on his performance as the baddie in Mission Impossible 2...
"The Hill" has always been my favorite film with Connery. Very few people seem to have seen it. It is a very intense prison film genre taking place in a military prison.
I was helping a friend of mine bar tend a huge Hollywood Party in the 1980s and there were a lot of top Hollywood actors and actresses at this party. Some were George Peppard, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and actresses Debra Winger and Linda carter. There were others but these stood out and when each one was announced as they arrived the other guests and celebrities didn't stop their chatting or whatever it was they were doing. But when Sean Connery was announced and walked into the ballroom the whole crowd went totally silent! They all turned around and looked at him as he walked in. I had never seen anything like this! While he was there all of the women concentrated around him and most of the men talked a lot lower volume and some actually tried talking to him. Of course the women had him covered up! Guess he had that Super kind of Charisma they talk about!
Yes..........yes, he did....if you’ve got it, you’ve got it and there is no question about it.....Mercy!...that man had it and IT only got better the older he got. I would have loved to have met him when I was young, sexy and hot! He probably would have considered me way too young for him......oh, well........in my dreams.
This video is so much more precious now, seeing as I'm watching this just about 3 weeks after Sean Connery's death. I'm 17 and I've always loved the Bond films, ever since I was maybe 6 years old. The first one I ever watched was Dr. No, even though nowadays you wouldn't expect a kid to pay much attention to the older ones, just the action packed new ones (which I still love). My point is that even when I was a 6 year old, just 11 years ago, Connery's Bond films still captivated me even though some people might consider them outdated compared to what we see now with these new blockbusters. They were always amazing to me. Sleep easy, King👑
Thank you for this vintage piece. Both films and he should have taken "Oscar" home for THE HILL and A FINE MADNESS. If you've never seen them...find them! Again, fun watching Sir Sean before he was.... ~ JTD
Did you hear about the time he and Lana Turner were rehearsing or filming something and her weird BF showed up with a gun? S.C. quickly saved the day by either taking the gun from him or knocking him out. This is the BF that was later killed by her daughter, allegedly, when he was abusing Lana.
@@teddiestephanidis3073 yea, it was a small time mafia thug Johnny stompanado. Not sure if I've spelled his last name correctly. Turned up on the film set threatening Sean Connery with a gun. Story goes he hit him ,disarmed him, police were called and Johnny was on the next flight back to the USA.
Sean Connery was & Will always be the BEST & the GREATEST 007 in Bond Film History. The Other 007's were Good, But Sean will always be the 1st to don the 007 insignia & to EXCITE Movie Audiences everywhere.
