To be fair, Alan is partly right. Though we drink milk as infants, adult human beings (and presumably other adult mammals) aren't necessarily supposed to consume dairy. At the very least it's not as good for us as the milk companies would like us to believe it is. Lactose intolerance is actually a normal reaction, and it's those of us who have evolved a tolerance to it who are - on the scale of human evolution - in the vast minority.

because there is not only one kind of milk that mammals produce. cows produce the "wrong" kind for humans. for most of us "westerners" who are fed milk from a young age our bodies adapt to it, but in large parts of the world people are like hedgehogs and get diarrhea

milk was never intended to be for *adult* mammals though. we're only able to continue drinking it because most of us have a mutation that makes our bodies continue producing the enzyme lactase. which is actually where lactose intolerance comes from: some people don't have that mutation!

​​​@@spoonyPrincessintended by whom? G0d? The "great plan"? If you have the enzyme to process it, it is "intended" for you. Or, if you JUST belive in evolution, it's FINE. Those who have it - which are the majority - are FINE. By all means don't drink it, if you are lactose intolerant, but to say you aren't "supposed" to feed it to humans, ALL humans, is preposterous, when - you said it yourself - most of them DO have the enzyme to process it.

You’re absolutely right, this is one of those times Mitchel actually disappoints me. He does not know what he is talking about, just abusing his technique to ‘win’ an argument.

Ah yes, the cavemen, those inveterate centurians! If you got to your 30s back then you were pensioned off, the pension back then of course being 4 lion's teeth being lodged in your spine.

I know this is super super old and possibly pedantic of me to add to now, but I just have to mention........other animals can and do drink other mammals milk when they have access to it. Wild rats will happily pilfer cows milk, sometimes directly from the udder, and when predators attack lactating mother prey, yes, they'll consume the milk she has. The only reason people think other animals don't drink the milk of other species is because most of the time, they don't have access to it in the way we do. But when they do have access, yes, they have no issues consuming it. Nutrition and calories is all that matters to any wild animal trying to survive, they absolutely would not, and do not, turn down milk of another species, just like they don't turn down the guts and fat and stomach contents of another species. Its all calories, and milk is very high in calories and nutrients, it'd be a valued resource to an animal who needs as much of both of those things as it can get to survive.
