In memoriam (* 12 March 1926; † 28. May 2014)
One of the greatest violinists of the 20th century, David Nadien played as concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein from 1966 to 1970.
This is the best rendition of Sarasate's 'Gypsy Airs' I've ever heard.

@som Slovaak are you kidding? LOL people appreciate Twoset for mainstreaming classical music and introducing millions to legends such as Nadien. Why you hating so hard? Their ethnicity and nationality are irrelevant to this conversation. Get over yourself

i was on TwoSet and left for a while to listen to the link they gave and I just went on from one Nadien video to another. this is my third. TwoSet is indeed showing us road less traveled by.

No wonder Bernstein wanted his friend David Nadien to lead the New York Philharmonic, to have had such an ally on ones left especially of Nadien's ability must have been a great comfort

If only Sarasate could hear this rendition... his soul would be eternally happy. Wonderful!

Oh my God, this is beautiful. It's a shame that Nadien's style of playing has gone out of favor. The sweetness and gentleness of his interpretation is discouraged now in favor of theatrics and heavy handedness. Teachers often feel playing like this is too sentimental. It's too bad, because Nadien's playing is brilliant. Nadien has the most beautiful bowing technique. It's mesmerizing just watching his left arm move. So light and graceful. I wonder if his teachers were Russian, because his wrist movement reminds me of some Russian violinists of years ago.

….very few have achieved this level of pure violin art and discipline.....obviously Heifetz comes to mind. Like Heifetz, Nadien chose the no non-sense approach, devoid of excess personality....though I do adore the Zino Francescatti and Nathan Milstein approach. Who wouldn't.
